Re: Kind of late for this: steam subscriber update It comes down to 'how many class action suits have you been involved with, and how many do you expect to be involved with, during your entire life?'.
Definitely one of those non events, a reason to hate on Steam, that no one ever needed. Heck if I want to hate on Steam, I can do better than this update. Not that I want to hate on Steam, but I know of better reasons if I needed to. |

| said by Sukunai:It comes down to 'how many class action suits have you been involved with, and how many do you expect to be involved with, during your entire life?'. Many people dismiss class action lawsuits as being useless for getting any kind of compensation for the people who were wronged. Maybe so, but that misses the bigger picture. Class action lawsuits still punish companies for wrongdoing. If a company screws over enough customers for there to be a class action lawsuit in the first place, something obviously needs to be done. Even if each user only gets a few bucks, the company still has to pay out millions. That hits the company in the bottom line and maybe next time they'll think twice about screwing their customers.
Now that class action lawsuits are effectively banned, any dispute with the company has to be settled via arbitration, which usually goes in the company's favor. So now they get to screw over customers and not face any consequences for it.
You don't think that's something to be concerned about?
Finally, think about this; If class action lawsuits are so useless, why are so many companies rushing to prohibit them? |

Re: Kind of late for this: steam subscriber update Class action lawsuits should be banned as they only benefit the lawyers. A few years back, Sears got hit with a class action suit regarding quotas for selling unnecessary repairs to cars in their auto centers. The plaintiffs lawyers made millions and the affected customers got coupons for discounts on future service.
If you have a legitimate claim against a company, you are better off filing an individual lawsuit (retaining your own attorney if neccesarry) as you'll get more than just coupons off of future service. -- I wish I still lived in Iowa; Everything there from rent and groceries to Cable TV is much cheaper in Iowa (especially with an overbuilder in town). |

The company next week will begin using algorithms that push potentially pirated material to a lower position in search results, Mountain View, California-based Google said today in a blog posting on its website.
The new system will use removal notices, or complaints from entertainment companies, that a website has received in ranking search results
So while this new signal will influence the ranking of some search results, we wont be removing any pages from search results unless we receive a valid copyright removal notice from the rights owner, Singhal said.

Re: Google Battles Pirates By Burying Search Results said by Linklist:This will hurt pirate sites more than any court actions by RIAA/MPAA. Nah, pirates are an incredibly adaptable bunch and this is a very low effort workaround. People who haven't already will simply install a browser add-on and/or move to Blekko. This is a fluff move to keep RIAA/MPAA happy.

2.) Google Cable TV in KC will need licenses from the cable stations which all link back to big content.

I've really been thinking of buying one but my more rational side says this is far too high a price, and it kinda feels like a novelty more than something practical.
Any thoughts?
