tpkatl join:2009-11-16 Dacula, GA | Mixing metaphors 1) the right hand at Viacom doesn't know what the left hand is doing
2) they are cutting their own throats
This whole charade is driving people away from the traditional distribution channels. It is slow but very earnest suicide. And it is completely, totally, self-propelled by Viacom and its content provider partner blackmailers. |

Camelot OnePremium,MVM join:2001-11-21 Greenwood, IN kudos:1 | I agree. This move did nothing but encourage DirecTV subscribers (and any other morons who watch Viacom stations) to find that content by "other means" for free. And now that they have, just how motivated do you think they will be to pay for it again? |

Leave the kids out of this fight completely! |

| Learning that there are alternatives John Stewart also mentioned the Oprah effect. For the days leading up to her leaving the air, there was quite a hooplah. A few days after she was gone, alternatives were found and she is no longer missed.
Besides alternative ways of wathing a program, there are also alternative things to watch. Viacom should know better that viewing habits of kids is hard to change. So once they are weaned off of the Nick programs, it may be difficult luring them back. |

Make your point without lying, Jon. The Dark Knight Rises is not released in 3D. |

Re: Mixing metaphors yep they found out the hard way. Take away the legal means and people find the less than legal means.
When companies pull the kind of stunt that Viacom did I often wonder if they remember a little history event called prohibition... people found ways to get their "content" then too. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

Make your point without lying, Jon. The Dark Knight Rises is not released in 3D. yes, it is. Someone got ahold of the digital content before it went public, and then put it on the internet. With Theaters going digital, its not really surprising that leaks like that are occurring already. Look around enough, you can find it. |

 | reply to Chubbysumo WTF are you talking about? Darknight Rises was not shot/edited or (soon to be) released at all in 3D. Director Chris Nolan is completely against 3D movies. |

Director Chris Nolan is completely against 3D movies. 3d effects can be added post production. Just like how they put the original lion king in 3d(which was obviously not drawn in 3d). Seriously, there is fans out there that do it, and there are already full leaks from digital theater content. |

 | Really? So let me get this straight you'r saying a digital copy of TDKR's has been released on the net (In 3D no less)? Let me count the reasons why this could not be true.
#1. I'm on plenty of "warez" sites and I have yet to see a copy of TDKR's on any of the sites.
#2. The Amazing Spiderman has been out for 2 weeks now and the best you're going to find of that movie (which is actually IN 3D) is a Cam release shot with an HD Cam.
#3. Even if someone did release the digital copy (which would also be an issue since the movie was shot on FILM/IMAX cameras) and converted it to 3D in post the process itself takes about 8 months to complete (See the recently delayed GI Joe)
#4 The movie isn't even in theatres yet so unless a journalist or crew managed to film the movie with their pocket camera.. its just not going to happen. |

#4 The movie isn't even in theatres yet so unless a journalist or crew managed to film the movie with their pocket camera.. its just not going to happen. With todays theaters and films being shot entirely in 4k digital formats, the output format does not matter(can be adjusted as necessary from the digital source, no studio uses film anymore). As long as you get ahold of a digital copy(which are just shipped on standard HDDs, with little to no protections, i work at a digital theater, dont doubt me here, i play them on my laptop at work in mpc HC. Post processing 3d is simply adding effects that stand out, there is no effort to it, and its all run thru a computer algorithm with a final go over and adjustment by human eyes. GIjoe was delayed because of studio and licensing disagreements and issues. Really, there was a source 4k leak about a month ago, and now its everywhere. Maybe google would help you better if you knew what to look for. |

Re: Embellishment I cant link my sites that I can get them from(but TPB has some good releases already), and your google link goes to a new page. Working at a movie theater, we got different reasons than the ones they put to the public. It was a disagreement between the studio and the distributor(according to our email). What their PR departments tell the public is only to calm them down, this is common among studios because they dont want to raise alarm with their "consumers" who have already bought into stuff from the movie(including tickets as some of our customers already did). |
