Comments on news posted 2012-05-15 08:34:03: While AT&T's LTE network is actually clocking in with faster speeds that Verizon's in early deployment markets, users in some markets like Chicago are seeing notably slower speeds. ..

Att still can't touch Verizon here.

blame

As pointed out, AT&T will always blame someone else for their own stupidity. T-Mobile is now busy refarming their spectrum to be more efficient. Too bad AT&T can't be so inventive.

Who gives a shit?

Sprint could fire up LTE-10 this fall - and it will have enough backhaul and spectrum to do a right proper job of it. T and VZ will get smoked if this happens.

- You don't know what LTE-10 is?
- You don't know that T and VZ took shortcuts with their LTE deployments which will make it very difficult for them to upgrade to LTE-10?
- You don't know that S has been installing sufficient backhaul to handle LTE-10 across a large portion of its network?
- You don't know that, most importantly, S has a nice, big chunk of spectrum (iDEN) that will work quite well when reallocated to LTE-10?

Slow and steady win the race.

Pathetic

What's even more pathetic is that Verizon can light up nearly as many LTE markets as AT&T has in its whole network in a single day.

AT&T is stuck at 35 LTE markets now. In fact, when was the last LTE deployment press release from AT&T?
Oh, here it is: LTE is coming to Salt Lake City, UT later this year.... Whoopdie doo: »www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=2···inancial

As for the latest release from Verizon, take your pick:

Maps:
AT&T: »www.att.com/network/
35 LTE Markets
vs.
Verizon: »network4g.verizonwireless.com/
230 LTE Markets

Verizon is absolutely wiping the floor with AT&T. I hope that Sprint and T-mobile will finish the job.

Re: Who gives a shit?

iDEN? Oh yeah, I thought that sounded familiar. That goes back to Nextel. Hooda thunk they'd find a use for that after so many years?

Not in the tech sector, bud! They are so far behind. Once LTE is rolled out, ungrading it is much faster and Sprint has less backhaul capacity than T for sure.

I lived in Downtown Chicago for years

and am floored at how terrible my service with AT&T was from 2009-2010

Re: Who gives a shit?

Are you sure about the whole less-backhaul-than-AT&T thing? As in, have you actually checked out a Network Vision site (Sprint's new combo CDMA/LTE deployment) and seen a lack of backhaul to those?

Re: Pathetic

Yup. This is why my wireless services (Sprint phone, T-Mobile aircard, VZW iPad) don't include AT&T...they're compatably expensive to Verizon, yet don't bring anything to the table that Verizon doesn't already have, in most markets anyway. In Dallas, yes, their network is faster than everything but FiOS. However I'd rather have 30/10 wherever I go than 50/10 in a few areas that I don't frequent.

Re: Att still can't touch Verizon here.

Sprint tests are showing up in Houston. Of course there are no users yet. Some Sprint tests show latency as low as 40ms. Phones don't really need more than 4-5Mbps but low latency would make a different in experience.

50-70 ms are average ping times I get with T-Mobile. They do a good job with latency.

Re: Pathetic

Keep in Mind Verizon had to run with LTE because its 3G pails in comparison to AT&T.

I moved to AT&T two years ago and have no dropped calls compared to Verizon. I know many will same I am lucky.

Keep in mind LTE for Verizon rolls back to slow 3G speeds. Mean while AT&T rolls from LTE to much faster speeds. Verizon LTE may be in 230 some cites but it cities, get out of that city and roll back to LTE.

Re: Who gives a shit?

Sprint doesn't have the money to do much unfortunately. They have to take on new loans to spend 1/2 a million to finish their Network Vision project. Just half a million.

Heck even T-Mobile plans to spend nearly 4 billion to upgrade their network.

Sprint doesn't have the money for CAPEX. Most of their announcement are simply their PR machine spouting off their dreams.

Says otherwise...

Verizon's entire 3G footprint will be overlaid by 4G LTE in 2013.

What an embarrassment for AT&T.
