They have a HUGE amount of upgrades left to their current network before they sink more money into a new network. They're doing what Cellco and Sprint should have done a LONG time ago and kept upgrading their networks instead of sitting on a network that still had room with EVDO-Rev-B. | |

No LTE, no problem. HSDPA can easily handle what AT&T laughingly calls 4G speeds. | |

| | | I gave up on t-mobile today - after being with them for 10 years now, and slowly seeing them die, I decided to try another. Since I already have a vz phone from work, there was no reason to spend so much on service - went with Virgin Mobile and the Moto Triumph phone.
At the end of the day, I am not sure where tmo will be in 2 years, and I don't want to sign a contract to be told next year that XYZ inc is buying them. No thanks, the coaster isn't so fun anymore. | |

It doubled the available spectrum in my market (Saint Louis, MO) which, until this was announced, didn't look to be on any roadmap for LTE.
Now there's enough spectrum to get LTE deployed here. The only places where T-Mobile "lost" spectrum is where they already have more than enough to have both DC-HSPA+ and LTE. This deal enables them to offer LTE in more markets, so it looks like it benefits both companies quite well. | |

"Pending regulatory approval, T-Mobile will receive spectrum from Leap in several markets in Alabama, Illinois, Missouri and Minnesota, and Leap will receive spectrum from T-Mobile in Phoenix, AZ and Houston, Galveston and Bryan-College Station, TX. Additionally, the companies will exchange spectrum in Philadelphia, Wilmington, DE and Atlantic City, NJ as well as several markets in Texas and New Mexico."
Sounds like t-mobile has a decent plan to go forward. | |
