Can't agree with you any more there. EA I know is pretty heavy on anti-piracy, but it could be possible that they feel that SOPA will also affect their Origin service. Either way, glad to see people are backing away from it (hopefully. Who knows what's going on behind doors).

they also might fear more technically experienced gamers shrugging them off and they publish quite a few PC titles.

so your typical console gamer who will swallow the sports games blindly even though Madden 2K12 is Madden 2K11 with slightly better graphics might not even know about SOPA.. the PC gamers most certainly have a good chance at knowing about it.

Surprise! Symbian still most popular mobile OS

I'm surprised. I thought Symbian was that thing chicks sat on for "fun".

I guess its the Nokia smartphone OS. its funny thought because while I know Nokia is still the big dog on the block globally in cell phones, I do not think I have had a Nokia pushed on me at a cell retailer in years. LG, Motorola, Apple, HTC and Samsung are the big ones(at least here in the US)

Re: EA drops support of SOPA

True.

I found this article however. I think it's worth sharing since it does make a lot of sense.

They'll claim it was all piracy

Box Office revenue fell. They'll already be writing it up for future anti-piracy bills as "proof" piracy is "destroying the industry."

I saw very few movies at the theater this year. There wasn't too many I was that interested in seeing, honestly.

I agree. The cost is prohibitive to go to the movies besides the garbage they (Hollywood) have been putting out. Rebooting, rehashing, regurgating movies is NOT the way to make money off movies.

Sad but true. I bet that Hollywood will jump to claims that because box office revenues are down, it must be the pirates' fault. Not the fact that some of the movies that they put out last year were so bad that they were not even worth pirating, let alone paying to see.

I just hope that this box office revenue drop doesn't help them make a better case for their claims. Previously, it was kind of hard for them to argue that piracy is destroying their business when despite it, they were still posting record profits. This time, their lack of creativity has finally hit them in their pocketbooks. On the flip side, less money in their pockets leaves them with less to spend on lobbying for bills like SOPA and PIPA.

Rural Broadband?

I am happy for MN, but neither FIOS or FTTH has happened in Rural Illinois and probably will not. It is rather irritating that it is outside my door and not in my house. The City has access, so does the courthouse and the local college, but the fact remains no one else does.

If that isn't bad enough the City will not allow a neighbor wireless ISP in, but it fawns all over Verizon and AT&T for the 10% per smartphone profit it generates.

It is more smoke and mirrors..

Re: They'll claim it was all piracy

Hollywood believes in a very simple equation:

(Film budget) x (hype) = (box office intake)

Any time the numbers fail to add up can only be because of NASTY EVIL PIRATES.

What I find are things done of many years ago. It's not only the movies, but the music is all crap (including some of the latino music put out).
