Carrier Pigeons Beat Broadband In UK Race Too bad the birds were not carrying a ram drive containing the file. If they had, then they would have been an implementation of RFC 1149 (A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers) showing how much faster the bird was at delivering the data than the broadband connection.

where my parents live in Virginia they would be ecstatic with the "100 to 200 Kbps" speed. The most they can get is a 24kbps dialup connection. There is no such thing as DSL or cable up there and the phone system won't allow anything beyond a 24kbps connection. I have a beautiful house and 135 acres of land there, but I can't live there because there is no usable network connection, not even cellular.
I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image.

said by RARPSL:This example of physically transferring the media as opposed to the data contained on the media in computing the bandwidth/speed of the transfer reminds me of the statement from years ago (before multi-gigabit speed communications lines) that a truck full of tapes/disk-drives driving down the highway (or an plane full of tapes flying cross country) had a vastly higher bandwidth than trying to use a wired connection between the two endpoints. If they had used the pigeons to deliver a flash drive, that would have emphasised the difference in delivery speed.

Verizon Wireless to Launch LTE Service in 30 NFL Cities Who's left out? There are 31 NFL cities (NYC has two teams) unless Verizon considers San Francisco / Oakland as one city. Notably 30 NFL cities leaves LA out while including either Buffalo or Green Bay or possibly both.
