Comments on news posted 2010-07-16 14:34:14: Apple this afternoon gave a presentation to address the iPhone 4's antenna problems. This really was the time for Apple to be be concise, candid, apologize, and fix the issue. Instead, the company wound up sounding like AT&T. ..

Re: WIN

Ah, so you review products you have never seen or recommend movies you haven't seen?

What we have here is a failure in proportionality.

ATT + Apple = Crap

ATT's shitty network combined with Apple Antenna issue = "How the hell do you Iphone owners even make or receive a call"

But don't let facts get in your way.
Fact is my Android phone doesn't have an antenna issue.
But i think the problem now is that you and other iPhone4 owners expected something more from Steve and Apple than, 'here's a free case. now stfu and go away.'

I don't want a bumper to make my phone function as a phone and the proximity issue is also driving me nuts.
Then don't get any cellphone...I've own Motorola, Samsung, Blackberries (3 of them), on Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. They ALL drop calls at times, and ALL show different signal strength depending upon how you hold/position it....

Why people are claiming this is new, is laughable.

Re: WIN

In your experience your phone doesn't have an antenna issue.

In my experience neither does mine. I would return my phone if it were giving me problems. It isn't and they aren't for millions of users.

Again, I'm not sure why this is so difficult. Any iPhone owner not happy can return the phone. The biggest complainers are those who don't own the handset.

Meanwhile users aren't calling Apple in droves over the attenuation. They aren't flooding back with returns. The media has blown this way out of proportion. Are some users affected by the attenuation problem? Sure, just as some users of Blackberry and Android handsets are. Just because YOU haven't had an issue doesn't mean that no one with your handset has, just as someone with an iPhone 4 having an issue doesn't mean EVERYONE has the issue or even a large percentage have any issue.

Fixed or not, when it goes to VZ....

I'm getting one.....as soon as it goes to Verizon, whether the "issue" is fixed or not.

Having had cellphones from Motorola, Samsung, Blackberry (3 of them), on T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon... I can say they all drop calls at times, and ALL show different signal strength depending upon how you hold/position the phone... NOT new people....

Re: WIN

well, i will hand it to the media. they love it when a man falls down.
but you have to admit, kind of a shitty 'fix' to a technical design problem.

Re: OMG

If other actual iPhone 4 OWNERS want to step up with their experiences or problems, awesome. Let's hear from the owners.

What we have is a bunch of Apple haters and/or Android fanboys talking shit about a subject they know ZERO about.
Hmmm. Mine drops from three or four bars to zero simply by being held. That's nice it's not happening to you, though. I think you can stop flaming people who are criticizing the company for what's clearly a real problem (it's just not noticeable in markets with full and decent signal).

Re: WIN

Then many of these smartphones have a "design problem" because many have attenuation issues depending on how they are held.

What is "shitty" about being able to return the phone? What is "shitty" about getting a free case?

What did HTC do for the Eris? What did Blackberry do for the 9700? Nothing. If you weren't happy, you returned them. If you didn't have any problems, you kept them.

It's common sense.

Re: Real solution?

Also, people like me carry their smartphones in their pocket. When these phones had external antennas (ie. the old Palm Treos), that'd be the first thing to snap off.

I don't mind sacrificing some attenuation for the simplicity of an internal antenna. However, making an antenna with such a simple bridging design flaw is beyond simple hand-meat-based attenuation issues.
They used to make phones with collapsable antennas. My Qualcomm 27-something had one, my Motorola flip had one, my Nokia 101 had one. When in use you pull the antenna up. When not in use you slide it into the phone body. Nothing to break or intrude in your pocket.

These haters are just like those who have been BEGGING me to sell my AAPL stock some $50-$70 ago.....while they screw around with penny and $3 stocks with a shytload of debt, and compare those companies to Apple? Its so absurd, no rational person should even fathom what they are writing.... They have been WRONG for near 100 pts now.....crazy

No. But if all the trailers that you did see sucked, legitimate professional reviews said it was a bad movie, and the basic plot of the movie was ridiculous, it's not a huge leap to draw your own conclusion that there's probably something wrong with the movie.

That's what we have here. There are countless videos demonstrating the issue ("trailers"). Most reviews that looked for it has found the signal issue, even those from fairly truthful impartial sources such as Consumer Reports ("professional reviews"). And basic RF design tells you that you are going to have these very problems with an exposed antenna ("ridiculous plot").

I don't beleive I've ever made a commented as if I was an owner. My only comments have been in general towards Apples reaction towards the phone, along with the concept behind the problem.

Common sense is not so common, if it were people would not be buying iphones now lol

Interesting...

Most of the harsh comments on here are from people that don't own the phone?
