Re: Chill... said by pnh102:I think the summary is too hard on Apple. After all, this HAS to be the first time they've willingly fessed up to one of their products having a major problem in such a public way. Apple did the right thing by offering the free cases. At the very least it buys them time to come up with a permanent fix to this problem. Jobs comments about reevaluating on Sept 30 hints that a manufacturing change may be in the works. But he WILL NOT admit that in public because it would freeze iPhone 4 purchases until the redesigned model was available. IF they have a hardware change, it won't be announced until the old inventory has cleared thru the marketing channels. -- Are you happy with your rep in Washington, DC? |

Re: Apple-ese for: There is no fix because there is no fix. said by funchords:They built the thing with the antenna as the chassis. When you touch it, it's no longer tuned to the right wavelength and its performance drops. This can't be fixed in software or firmware, hell you can't even fix it by taking the back off and cutting traces. Avoiding conductive material from touching the antenna is a mitigation of the issue, and if the customers are satisfied with that solution, then so be it. Apple was taking things too far when they said that every phone has this problem. True, but not to this degree. I can hold my "Droid" wrong and get poorer performance due to detuning the antenna via coupling, but I'm still not in direct contact with its antenna which detunes it because it's now electrically the wrong size for the wavelength. The bezel being the antenna means the antenna is really big. Lots and lots and lots of wavelengths involved relative to the frequencies involved. Your touching it has about the same affect as a flat patch antenna in a plastic case being parallel to your hand except your hand can actually block the signal along with coupling to it's output.
Obviously you aren't clueless on the matter of antennas but the best antennas on paper don't always perform better than the basic ones and when it comes to antennas that are software switched then the software plays a big role in the antenna too.
Personally I think it was a dumb idea when the back of the phone was glass they could of did patch antennas under it or even within the glass itself but that doesn't mean the idea they designed doesn't work as intended. -- Say no to JAMS! |

No one cares when the back up punter on the worst team screws up or has issues. But when the starting QB on the super bowl winning team does, look out!
So what, they have an issue, they admitted they do, whether they way they did was right or wrong, who cares. Move on, find something else to write about. This is getting old.
As I have said before, I love my iPhone, it works good, for me and what I do. I really don't care what you prefer or why you hate Apple. -- Women think they are clever just because they can fake an orgasm for a relationship, whats the big deal a man can fake a whole relationship for an orgasm!!!! |

Re: Why this hatred? said by justaReader :
And they managed to prove many other phones have the issue. Sounds like someone bought Jobbs' bullshit.
Sorry, but while all phones w/ internal antennas can experience attenuation, other independant testers (most notably Consumer Reports) noted that the iPhone 4's case was more severe (about 2x the normal attenuation). |

I smell... HIGH GRADE BUL$H!T !! AT BEST. ROFL this is what I expected from APPLE in the first place, NO im not a Iphone fanboy But Im NOT a apple Hater ether. this is just unfortunately the common business practice ( I said it before and Ill say it again). Karl was right it's exactly what Apples PR & ATT would or told them to do, ADMIT NOTHING, LIE THROUGH YOUR BUTT, BRING UP $HIT TOTAL IRRELEVANT! except for the part about getting out of your ATT contract, that part was golden..I can hear the NNNNOOOOO from the side curtain as they saw this answer coming!
I think this phrase from aliens vs. Monsters sums up apple at best.... This place is an X-file, wrapped in a cover-up and deep-fried in a paranoid conspiracy! LOL |

2. You disappoint me. The title is unoriginal and unprofessional. In fact, one of the main reasons I spend time on this site is because despite your "I hate AT&T" slant, you usually do a good job of sharing facts and being professional about it. Instead, now you can only come up with cuss words (which I use often) instead really diving into what happened today at the press conference.
In summary, I'm disappointed, I've come to expect more out of this forum and your writing. |

Even political blogs are in on the action When a site devoted to political topics goes after Apple & Jobs and the stock drops 7%, Apple has entered in to unfamiliar territory for them. And that is they are no longer just a company loved by fanboys and techno-nerds. Open season has been declared on just another BIG BAD CORPORATION.

I can COVER the phone and pdas and only barely degrade the signal, yet I can go to any Apple store and completely destroy the iphone 4 signal by touching one part with one finger.
