Goold luck with that. With the new surveillance powers, you don't even have to bother to actually send your message. |

Conservatives are hanging by a thread. There is no way in hell this will become law. There will be elections come this fall and the project will fall.

Ah, the ugly side of cheap, instant & content-rich communications comes home to roost. It's a global one-way trip, I'm afraid. The interesting part comes when IPv6 hits it's stride.
I've often been bothered that BBR comments on IPv6 center around address capacity rather than threats to privacy and loss of end-user control. |

American citizens are going to wind up with Canada's Health Care System while Canada's citizens will be subject to our Security Template.
Must be some sort of undeclared war we're fighting.

NSLs have existed well before the Patriot Act, the Patriot act just loosened the controls on using them (and, coincidentally, opened the floodgates their use).
Carnivore also existed prior to the Patriot Act. However, it eventually (sort of) died because the FBI found better ways to achieve the same ends.
So, if the Canadians are trying to play catchup, it's with stuff that pre-dates the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act mostly acted as a "go nuts with the powers you've already had" type of bill. -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell |

| Hopefully we get another election?
Seems the only thing thats kept the conservatives from passing some really bad legislation, is that they're always under the threat of election.
they were going to pass a poorly constructed copyright bill last time, now this.
I fear the day the conservatives ever get a majority government. I hope we have minority governments forever to try and keep anything our political leaders can think up from passing. |

| The Liberals before the conservatives were pushing copyright reform bills too. Don't go thinking that either of those parties is going to look out for the best interests of Canadians if they're given a majority government. -- Tom |

The ironic thing is that the proposals from each of the countries seem crafted to drive people from each nation, rather to to it.
In America, we'll wind up with a crappy government-run health system that has you waiting months to get an MRI. Employers will be required to provide/pay for health insurance, and employees will be required to carry a plan of some sort. And all who work will wind up paying for the lazy, worthless ones who don't.
In Canada, they'll wind up with an overzealous, over-reaching government that's power-drunk and paranoid.
In the end, the only difference between the two countries will be that at least we in the states will still have our firearms to hold government tyranny somewhat at bay... unless Obama and Biden get their way with that too. -- It took Abraham Lincoln to free the slaves. And it's taking Barack Obama to enslave the free. |

In canada the citizens pay for health insurance in the form of income tax.
Companies are only required to pay for dental and prescriptions to offer full benefits (but are not mandatory) |

"Lets see, the Conservative Government is in a minority situation. That means that it can be voted out by the opposition parties at any time. So that means if a large number of Canadians e-mail their Members of Parliament and tell them that these bills suck, then it is likely that these bills may get shelved as this government wants to stay in power." |
