Comments on news posted 2009-06-16 13:56:46: Perhaps trying to mimic Comcast's new advertisements that show FiOS installations as a home destroying nightmare, Comcast is under fire in Pennsylvania (via the Consumerist) for setting an 83-year-old woman's home on fire. ..

Key Words:

"contracted labor"
These problems are the same for any ISP - or other services for that matter

Some kid that doesn't know to look before drilling... seen it in plumbing, electrical, and yes, internet installs.

Perhaps lowest bidder isn't such a great idea...

Comcast Sucks

Dumped them for Fios. I've reset my Fios router once in 2 years. On Comcast, I was on the phone with their support every six weeks.

When you've got an inferior product, the only thing logical to do is to use marketing to downplay your opponent.

An inferior product with inept techs and installers. This company is fast becoming a joke.

lowest bidders have to cut costs somewhere. Its usually in the labor pool and material. Well, you get what you pay for!

It already is a joke. Now it's working on the punchline.

So, maybe this installer should've drilled more holes to hit a water line and maybe put the fire out. lol

Of all the install nightmares that I've seen reported here over the years, Comcast by far seems to be the worst. There have been explosions, napping on the job, another explosion, and even double murder. While all the instances were contractors and not direct employees of Comcast, they all are entities that are responsible to Comcast. Many other companies use contractors to service their customers, and you don't see numerous issues reported with them here.

To tell you the truth, I can't remember seeing TWO issues with the same company where property was destroyed to the degree that Comcast contractors have been reported on. Coincidence? Or corporate culture?

Meh

Considering the number of installs they do or people they hire/subcontract, they are doing pretty good. Shit happens, nobody's perfect and that's why there is this thing called insurance.

Re: Key Words:

Maybe Comcast should hire "licensed" contractors?

What's strange is that Comcast sends out contractors for any job that actually requires more work than simply changing a splitter.

Either Comcast's own employees are incapable of doing this type of work or Comcast is hiring day laborers as contractors.

new verizon advertisement time?

I'd like to see a verizon ad starting off with comcast's fios big construction entertainment then go to a slide show listing all of comcast's mishaps with installs.

Or maybe just selective reporting by the Consumerist and BBR.

LMAO - Yeah, and I'm sure pretty good is precisely how all the people who have been killed/maimed and/or had their property damaged would describe their experience with Comcrap's knuckleheaded independent contractors. Same goes for the Katrina victims....Pretty good, Brownie!

Exactly, all telecommunication companies IMO have some excellent employees who go above and beyond, (Anon, BAINCH) for Mediacom and ones that make you want to run the other direction.

old woman wasn't paying any attention
the installer was careless as in most drilling by comcast worker

most of the time they get lucky
this time not so lucky
the guy that came to install tv service for comcast was drilling our eletric meter box until i looked outside and notice there is a direct contact with it and so i quickly warned this person and he ask me back is this really electric box behind it???
OMG he freaked out too!
