tether?

They are going to allow tethering on the iphone without a tethering plan? or is just an upgrade finally to let people tether without jailbreak.

Autofocus camera is nice...

My old Sony had an autofocus camera. This for me is the most exciting part.

Re: tether?

They announced tethering support with 3.0 OS, but AT&T wasn't one of the supported carriers they mentioned.

As expected, nothing revolutionary

And AT&T is still the weakest link.

So this is what the apple crowd though was gonna kill the Palm Pre buzz? Really?

pricing just announced

for 3Gs $199 16GB, $299 for 32GB, $99 for 8GB 3G...w/contract.

I picked up a refurb 3G, 16Gig in April $199...so this new pricing means i was shafted by apple...not the first time though

oh well, at least love this thing so i wont complain...

MMS at some point near the "end of the summer" for AT&T. What a crock.

Oh, they'll still charge extra for tethering, otherwise it would undercut their Blackberry tethering plans. Jailbreaking will still be mighty compelling if/when it catches up to the new phone and OS 3.

Re: Autofocus camera is nice...

Doesn't surprise me anymore with AT&T. Honestly I don't think Verizon would be much better with the iPhone either. It's a huge data consumption and the US just stinks when it comes to mobile broadband IMO.

The thing that will be interesting is if they will allow the current 3G owners to upgrade to 3GS while under contract still.

Wow..

I really am starting to dislike AT&T. They really cannot keep up with everything that Apple is trying to do with this phone (MMS, tethering). I understand they are concerned with bandwidth capacity, but they have had AMPLE time to prepare for this. I know they will sell plenty of these phones, but they would sell MANY MORE if they would be prepared for these things. I know several people who won't buy simply due to tethering/MMS or both.

upgrade

Upgrading your phone may be expensive:

For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)

Palm FTW!

Not cool enough to beat the Pre. Palm FTW!

The exclusivity with the horrible AT&T network is what is hurting the iPhone.

Re: upgrade

I'm hoping that this will exclude those who, like me, paid full (unsubsidized) price for their first-gen iPhones and did not upgrade to a 3G. If they're going to charge me $699, I'll wait till contract expiry next Feb...

Re: Palm FTW!

All these Pre fanboys, it's not like Sprint or Verizon would do any better with the iPhone.

Re: upgrade

Do you know the rate for an ATT user not locked in contract? mine is coming up in a few weeks so I would just wait.

If you aren't under a contract or at the end it's $199 for 16gig and $299 for 32gig.

Re: Palm FTW!

Exactly! Voice coverage might be better in a certain area. I think the iPhone would cause network issue with either of them as well.
