Going to check out Palm Pre in person tomorrow

I called my local Sprint Store and they will have Palm Pre's in stock to checkout Saturday Morning. I've read the reviews but want to see what it looks & feels like in person.

Then I'll wait until the new iPhone is announced in a few weeks before picking my next smartphone.

I let my 2 yr contract with Verizon expire without renewing and will probably end up going to either Sprint or AT&T for my next contract. The Sprint deal has a lower monthly cost with the "Everything Data 450 min" plan than the equivalent AT&T plan. And I know Sprint data coverage is good in the areas I frequent because my Kindle gets good 3G coverage in those areas.

Happy weekend!

I'm working the race tomorrow at Texas Motor Speedway for my daughter's drill team. Eight hours of frying funnel cakes and Fletcher's corny dogs. Hmmm, hmmmmm.......

Take OECD broadband numbers with a grain of salt

»tech.yahoo.com/news/pcworld/2009···itmatter
Statistics that show the U.S. behind many other countries in broadband deployment don't tell the whole story and may not be as important as some critics suggest, a group of broadband experts said Friday.

OECD statistics might give a better picture if they reflected broadband adoption for households, because families often share a connection and the OECD numbers have largely ignored broadband on smartphones and other wireless devices, said panelists at a broadband forum.

David Gross, former coordinator of international communications and information policy at the U.S Department of State called the OECD statistics "deeply flawed," but also acknowledged that the organization is working to improve its broadband reports.

The U.S. leads the world in broadband to schools, he said, and it's the only country now deploying fiber-based broadband outside urban areas. Part of the problem in the U.S., however, is with demand. Of 21 OECD countries with statistics available, the U.S. ranks 11th in PC ownership, Atkinson said, and without PCs, people aren't going to get wired broadband.

One largely ignored segment of broadband providers, both by OECD and by people who complain about not enough competition, are wireless providers, said Christopher Guttman-McCabe, vice president of regulatory affairs at CTIA. The number of U.S. subscribers with broadband access on their smartphones and other devices has grown from 3 million in 2006 to 73 million in 2008, he said. "I do think broadband to the home is being rapidly overtaken by broadband to the person," he said.
The above info is for those who think the OECD numbers are gospel and actually reflect where the US is concerning broadband.

TV reviews were mixed.

I watched him for 2 nights and I liked Leno much more. I just don't see him keeping ratings as good as Leno got.

What do you think?
Poll
Do you like Conan OBrien as a replacement for Leno on the tonight show?

Must be a BBR bug when a poll is on front page news. I got the same error, but it is counting the votes nonetheless.

I seem to recall some people feeling the same about Jay. He'll never do as well as Johnny, etc. They said it about Johnny too come to think of it. It's a tradition.

I never liked Leno. I kept expecting him to say, "Wocka Wocka Wocka!!" O'Brien is an improvement.

Ubuntu!

Think I might sit down and learn all the features of Ubuntu 9.04. I gotta say Ubuntu is great, and especially fast. I run it off my Compaq Presario R3000, that's hard drive got fried. Popped a new 160gb drive, and was up and running ubuntu in no-time! Recognizes all my drivers, and I had my wireless card working with a couple command prompts. I just want to explore all the features that ubuntu has, I tried to already... but there's too many! Anybody else here run ubuntu?
