28Mbps upstream powerboost???? There is no way this you get 28 upstream powerboost. You'll just only get about 5Mbps to 10Mbps upstream according to Cox communications.

On my Docsis 2.0, 20mb Tier for $59/mnth, I get 25down and 2.5 or so up?
What is the adavantage for $20 more a month?

Unless they did upstream channel bonding, 28 Mbps up would be impossible, though it *would* be really nice. So yeah, 28 Mbps downstream.
While I agree that 25/2 for $79 is weak (I might test it for a month, but wouldn't keep it around) I suppose it's better than Qwest's 896k up DSL which ranges from 1.5 to 20 Mbps depending on your area. Oh, and there's that annoying 15% speed penalty with Qwest, but not with Cox. |

The "28Mb downstream" is probably just uncapped powerboost and 28-33Mb is what you would see from a single otherwise unused DOCSIS channel.

The advantage is that 25 down/2.5 up meg speedtest your showing there is fake and only viable in the first 3 minutes of a download,I get 36/6 on those on my trusty docsis 2 surfboard 5101. But when its time to download a multi-linux distro pack of say 8 gigs it goes down to 15 megs after the first 3 minutes. With the new plans that becomes a constant 25 meg down pipe, with hd content these days at 4-18gb a pop that saves 25-100 minutes downloading large content. This is more for power users downloading big content, not the casual gamers/users. |

According to the site comparison for the different tiers, after the boost is over, regular speeds are 25/2 for the Premier Plus tier while 15/1.5 is the best you can hope for with just Premier. That's a significant difference in performance. |

of course they won't. this is strictly to get a leg up on qwest who offers only 20meg fiber-fed adsl2+ to a select number of customers in the phoenix-metro area. until cox unveiled this new plan, qwest technically had "the fastest game in town" (powerboost and adsl2+ overhead not withstanding).
if you look at the two areas that have d3 speeds, they are both 50meg packages and are directly facing high-speed ftth competition via lus-fiber or fios. this is just another fact of life when dealing with the major player oligopoly facing customers today. the few dictate what goes where.
notice i did not say anything about what i *feel* the price should be. make it the same as those other areas; i don't feel cox should be *giving* the d3 service away - but they should make it available to those who wish to partake. i believe that arizona (especially phoenix) is cox's largest market in the entire footprint. there is a high concentration of it professionals that live in this area. you may be shooting yourself in the foot by not offering it, unless the whole goal of pushing this tier is to only get a (really small) leg up on the competition and then to become complacent with what is out there.

What's the point of upgrading to D3 if they just increase the price of every advanced tier? The vast majority of users won't see any benefits as they all subscribe to the lowest tier. This is just a way for Cox to migrate their power users to higher priced plans, increasing their own revenue at the expense of their (capped) users.
Besides, Cablevision has offered 30/5 for years for much cheaper than this. |

Hopefully they decide to at least do FTTN there and make cox sweat a bit. LV is a huge market for them. |

cox az cap on premiere is 17500 / 1750 and if you're not on a loaded node, you get that. now with qwest its 17000/750[UNDER OPTIMAL CONDITIONS] assuming you are in a hood where its available.

I'm confused. There's mention of Docsis 3.0 in this article, yet I'm pretty sure 25/2 speeds can be handled by Docsis 2.0 with no problem. So this is a new tier for existing 2.0 users right? One doesn't need a 3.0 modem for this to work? I've got friends in the cox San Diego market, hope they may seem some upgrades soon. |

it states that the premier internet is capped in phoenix at 15/1.5. granted, cox has a higher upload than qwest, but thats never advertised. even if you factor in the typical 15-17% of overhead from qwest at 20meg, you are still looking at 16.6-17meg.
last time *i* checked, 17 is higher than 15.
