Comments on news posted 2009-05-20 08:53:33: Perhaps to offset the fact that they just announced they'll be selling a huge swath of rural customers they couldn't be bothered to upgrade, Verizon announced this morning that they've continued to expand availability of their 7Mbps DSL service. ..

Hmmm

"7.1 Mbps/384 Kbps"

WTH ?.. 7.1 Mbps/768 Kbps is what they offer here.

Not a good deal.

Considering that I have 12 Mbps/2 Mbps for $33 per month from Comcast with a 2 year contract, that's not a very good deal from Verizon. Especially since I didn't even have to be a new customer to get it.

Verizon has been very heavily advertising DSL in my area. Here's a tip Verizon, why don't you deploy FIOS in my area. Then maybe we'll talk.

There is no 7.1/384 DSL tier - Karl, your article is wrong.

Except that Verizon provides unlimited use (at least there is zero enforcement), Comcast does not.

Verizon needs to bump up that upload speed

I've never been throttled by Comcast and I've never come close to the 250 GB cap, even when downloading a number of HD movies, so for me it's a non-issue.

no thanks but where is FIOS, this is the nation's capital

I live in the heart of DC and guess what? No 7.1Mbps down for $37.99 available. The best they do on my block is 5Mbps down for $42.99 month.

Where is my FIOS? This is the nation's capital and I can't get fiber?

hey what is this 21 States and DC business?

I am offended by that subtitle. It should say 22 states. Or maybe 21 states and the future state of Columbia. Karl Bode, you need to be more sensitive and politically correct to the residents of the nation's capital. We already suffer taxation without representation and slow internet speeds (see my other post).

Karl, why do you hate Verizon?

The upload is 768k, not 384k. And there are no fees.

Yes I hope Verizon does better in our nation's capital city but don't get us started on what's wrong with a single city becoming a state, if you want to be part of a state see if you can get Maryland to take D.C. back.

I think many of us have our (good) reasons for disliking Verizon. I know that I do....

The throttling and the 250GB cap have nothing to do with each other, one is to control peak usage in the afternoon, the other is to control P2Pers/bulk transfer/streaming blu-ray.

Where?

Dangit, I'd be happy if they'd actually do 768 in my town!

So many better options. If you can, get RCN. Otherwise, COVAD ADSL2+.

Why is it wrong for 1 million people to have representation so that we can vote on issues of cell phones and broadband?

Maybe Penn should be absorbed and controlled by say New York or Virginia? How does that make you feel?

My point was that residents of the future state of Columbia have just as many concerns about broadband but have no voice and are treated as second class citizens.

Plus it is just rude to say "states" and, oh by the way you other "non-important non-state" D.C.

If you look at my reviews I did a review of Covad. Not a good choice.

Right now there is only one broadband choice in Washington: Comcast
