Comments on news posted 2009-04-16 11:45:27: Earlier this month, AT&T modified their 3G terms of service to seemingly ban Slingbox to mobile phone functionality. Less than a week later, the company informed us that those changes were made "in error. ..

WTF?!?!?

WTF ATT!?!?!

This Slingplayer for the iphone does more than just work on your stupid slow ass network. It can work on my home Wi-Fi net as well. Which is what I want it for.

So just block it off your shitty network and let it release to the Apple App store so we can use on home Wi-Fi nets.

Did I mention that you guys SUCK ATT?!?

Pansies.

It can't handle traffic now

Their 3G network is already a joke (at least in my area). It runs slower than dial-up doing normal day-to-day stuff. Watching TV via the Slingplayer would be painful!

No, they are protecting their already overloaded network from going belly up.

What do people expect?

Seriously?

I have a G1 and I found a post on a cell phone board asking if someone would develop an app to run Bit Torrent on his phone so he could download stuff. WTF?!?!?!?!

If think they are going to get the same connection from a 3G network they get from their home cable connections, then they are going to be in for a rude surprise.

Enough of the exclusive AT&T deal already

I hope Apple doesn't renew their deal with AT&T just for reasons like this.

Hardly. They just don't want people actually using the bandwidth they're paying for.

Still a rumor...

Sling Media has said that they've not heard anything from Apple. It's all still up in the air.

Personally I would not be surprised if this app was banned. It doesn't matter that other phones on AT&T's network have been Slinging for quite some time now, because AT&T has no control over what those people install on their phones. With the iPhone, it is truly a closed system.

As the owner of both a Slingbox Solo and an iPhone, I won't be happy if this app gets banned -- simply because I would like to at least be able to use it over wi-fi! My hope is that, if the app really does get banned, they'll resubmit it as a wi-fi only app. Won't be as useful, but it'd be better than nothing.

Not there?

As of 11:00am Thursday I can't find it on the app store. A search for SlingPlayer and SlingBox turns up no results in iTunes.

No, they are protecting their already overloaded network from going belly up.
NOT. They are just stopping Sling from offering a service that would compete with their own U-verse service.

The topic was iPhone and Wireless network - NOT u-Verse and AT&T's wired network.

Which makes another great case for jailbreaking the iPhone. If the app is not allowed on the app store you can bet it will show up on Cydia/Installer.

True, but this is the iPhone/AT&T wireless thread.
