Seriously: that totally clueless, loser Meg Whitman - McCain's "adviser on economy", whoah!!! Imagine our economy now...! - paid TWO AND A HALF BILLION BUCKS for a company that had ZERO business plan or any prospect to ever have one viable one.... it was mind-boggling for me, she should've been held accountable by the investors.
Then came Donahoe, an even wowrse type of loser: arrogant idiot, who made sure that instead of becoming competitive as the small persons' Amazon in this tough economy (which would've helped it) eBay is now synonymous with "GREED" and "ARROGANCE" thanks to this utterly clueless retards' actions which resulted exactly the opposite: tens of thousands of small sellers were pushed out by price gouging, excessive fees and the removal of seller feeedbacks.
There should be a book in few years:

As for Skype: the farther they get from these insane losers of eBay the better for Skype.
Skype's ONLY positive thing is its free internet-based services, nothing else.
Video quality is totally shitty in this day and age, their codec is utter crap, interface is cluttered and buggy as hell (OS X) and their international prices are a joke compared to competitive VoIP providers (check Callcertinc's prices for comparison and you get the picture.)
Their only hope is that the European Commission will stand by their word and force parasitic wireless providers to open up the data networks for all sorts of VoIP services - but then again, I don't see how Skype's prices or crappy video quality would be a hit, especially against future competition...
...this pricetag on the tune of $1B-$2Bis a complete joke, I think: "to see nearly $1 billion in revenue in 2011" - that means it would take probably a good 10 YEARS to make your money back, provided you'll enjoy linear growth until 2019...
...nonsense, that is.

I've always thought of Skype as a bad implementation of a good idea. Having free Internet based voice is cool. It's been around since the 80's and dial up days, but at least now it is a little more modern, easier to use GUI, etc.
But there is a novelty to this, kind of like the magic jack, it's tethered to your PC. So as long as your computer has a solid QoS Internet connection you remain solid. I know of businesses that actually use Skype in this way, save a lot of money compared to the traditional telco. But with so many VoIP providers and the Telco companies finally figuring out that VoIP is where it's at, it's starting to fall more into a niche than utility use.
For someone who wants to talk to people across the world for cheap, it works great. But if you want to call Grandma down the road, your VoIP/Telco is going to win. Since a lot more calls are probably made to local areas than the other side of the planet, it's just a matter of cash flow. If Skype released a version that fixed all bugs and made the service flawless, that still won't fix a broken business plan.

Yep, seeing Meg and Carly on McCain's team made it clear that he didn't have a chance in the election. It's like he's trying to make woman CEOs look bad by picking the worst ones.
I have Skype and pay for it on occasion, but I usually leave it off. Skype really demonstrates the need for network neutrality. I remember hearing lots of examples of telcos pressing for the limiting of Skype. They're also a good example of someone with innovative software technology, not some generic patent on an easy method.
Maybe eBay selling Skype is a sign that they are waking up to reality. Time Warner never sold AOL... |

Oh, God! Paypal is the worst!
For example, they have a program where you can collect the credt card info on your site and use Paypal as the transaction gateway, but then they require that you provide a PayPal payment option as well. So you're trying to avoid the look of using Paypal, but they require you to offer it. And then it's double-programming costs too! WTF?!? |
