1 tb Hd would be excellent better than anything on the market today.
Will they charge extra like a dvr package? i would say yes. maybe? |

I really dig my Slingbox Pro. What is the biggest challenge is explaining to friends who have no idea what Slingbox does, what it can do. Once they 'get it' they definitely want it. All of their DBS boxes should come with it. |

| reply to hayabusa3303 just watch the content owners will sue this one down for some stupidly lame and weak reason. you know someone like MLB or the NFL will try and get it blocked by the court for the fear of it somehow bypassing blackouts or that is the excuse they will use. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

ya cool idea
Directv already has web based record selection so this would be a cool addon (maybe they could find away to do it via software update)(or not) |

| wonder if
A person could actually buy the thing outright instead of having to rent it.
Also wonder if Tivo (or somebody else) is going to try suing them for this too...
Funny how they supposedly already have a good DVR for the sat. service too... and now they're making one for cable companies. At least there's some competition out there now instead of the same old same old that's been on the market for so long. Don't get me wrong, my Moto DVR is alright, sure, but I've always wondered how much better it could really be if there were more choices (and I refuse to "buy" a tivo, only to pay a subscription anyway...)
What I would really like to see most is more digital cable channels "in the clear" - to be "cable ready" in the digital age seems difficult compared to analog...
One should be able to plug in a new TV and tune digital channels that are also "in the clear" in analog.
This would also open up home-brew media centers again. I think we can all understand "premium" channels being scrambled/encrypted - but to only have the major networks unencrypted is kind of unfair... One should not have to rent a box, or a cable card for "expanded" basic channels; it is a giant step backwards.
One can dream.
Until then, glad to hear of some competition with some cool features! |

If it can pull VOD content and comes with a nice high resolution UI at a decent price point, I'm interested.
The Comcast Motorola isn't doing it for me anymore. Just keep the thing around for VOD access, otherwise I'd go something more advanced like Moxi. |

1 edit | I have it on DirecTV?
Sort of... DirecTV already has a beta version on its high def ethernet connected DVRs (and maybe the low def ones too).
I can watch recorded content with the same interface that is seen on the screen. The DVR can do whatever it wants (someone else watching TV) yet I can watch over my broadband connection (or for me, sometimes in another room) while the DVR is doing something else.

Directv has had this out for about 6 months, maybe more.

It would be done in software so if the machine's processor were fast enough and Echostar doesn't hold some patent barring D* from doing this it should be possible. |

1 edit | Sling Box Functionality???
I love when companies steal what everyone else is already doing and pretend it is theirs. This should not be called "Sling Box Functionality". It should be called internet video streaming.
People were recording TV shows onto harddrives before TIVO. People were streamiung TV shows before Slingbox.
Neither company invented anything. -- For those of you playing a drinking game.... MY FRIENDS! |

| Really someone better tell that to Replaytv. Can't speak for Sling since I've never used their product. Talk to anyone who has used a Tivo dvr and a regular cable dvr or satellite dvr and see which one the like better. 9 out of 10 times it will be the Tivo. -- »www.seabee.navy.mil |
