| I have no landlines anymore, tether my phone occasionally I have a cable account and no landline based phone anymore, I can't go to dial up.
I do maintain a account with 300 city dialup available for travel purposes (but seldom used except when the internet is not free and local phones calls are).
I'd rather tether my phone. -- »www.Warpstock.org

| I had to go from feast to famine I used to live in Los Angeles, where you could churn from one highspeed isp to another endlessly.
Moved to Arkansas where my only choice was dialup or nothing. Survived on Dialup for 4 years, even working from home, doing research, even playing online mmorpg's like Everquest2 and Lord of the Rings Online.
Not impossible, and yes, I missed faster speeds, but I liked my environment much better. Made up for it with plenty to spare.
Now I'm in Florida, on Comcrap. Yeah it's better than dialup, but way more expensive, and without the bundle even more so. -- Follow Your Bliss -- Joseph Cambell I reject your Reality and substitute my own! -- Adam Savage, Mythbuster

| Hell No.... ..I would not switch back to Dial-up, because well, I never have had it.
My friend used to have it, and I'd go over to his all the time, and browse on the web. Then he got DSL.
What a night and day difference.! Then I got DSL. I love it. Although speed wise and upload wise I want even more.. or just more upload, and less latency.

| Cut other luxuries before Internet. Personally, my internet bill gets me the most enjoyment for my money. So before even considering reverting to dial up, I would cut other luxuries out.
Things I would do before giving up broadband.
- Reduce cell phone usage and go with a pre-pay phone only used when really necessary. $38 --> $15 = $23 savings
- Don't buy that 12 pack of Sam Adam's Lager, buy some Milwaukee's Best. $14 --> $6 = $8 savings
- Don't go out to eat as much during the month. $75 --> $40 = $35 savings
- Switch to lower internet speed tier. $45 --> $25 = $20 savings
- Wash and re-use the Trojans
So many things I would do without before cutting the broadband. $50 per month is a small price to pay for the benefits of it.
I lived with 56k dial up for many years and even then, when webpages/downloads were much smaller, it was horrible. Would have to start downloading a 10 megabyte file when I went to lunch and it MIGHT be done by the time I got back; this was assuming that it didn't magically disconnect me for no reason.
So yeah, recession or not, I will fight, save, and cut costs everywhere possible before going from broadband to dial up. -- HABYA HABYA HABYA TEAR DOWN THE HEMP STALKS EAT UP THE OLD MAN AND WOMAN AND CARRY OFF THE LITTLE GIRL MAY YOU DIE ALONE

| Never Cable TV would be dropped first. With almost every network show on Hulu, their own website, or iTunes, and with sporting events on at a friends' house or a bar, the internet is far more useful than TV, and dial-up obviously wouldn't cut it for any video. -- Join the RC5 team. | |

| I'm guessing that a lot of people considering going back... ...to dialup plan on keeping their only landline line and will not be adding a second landline for their dialup- they intend to use their only landline for internet, voice and fax calls. I guess these folks either use ISP's and modems that support the Modem-On-Hold feature of the V.92 dialup protocol, or have a prepaid cell phone and tell people trying to reach them to call the cell if their landline is busy. | |
