I cut off my internet at home and now just use it at work. But when it comes to having internet or not, I think not is probably better than dial-up. Web pages are too big today to get much enjoyment from dial-up. I suppose email would still work ok.
The cost of the pots line to carry the dial-up would make stand alone cable or DSL more attractive for most, I'd think. |

| ^^I've gotta agree with that^^. Anytime I roll down to my inlaw's farm where they only have dial-up, I find that I only get angry and frustrated trying to load even the simplest pages. Checking e-mail is a chore, and trying to buy anything or do even a small amount of research is all but impossible. No one is going back to 100 MB hard drives and no one is going back to dial-up if they have reasonable access to cable or DSL. |

Just got back from a trip where the hotel had free, "crippled" wifi (or faster if you wanted to pay $10/day). Since I'm cheap, I used the free product, advertised as 256k down/128k up.
faster than dialup, but frustrating as hell just for web surfing. web pages these days are so graphic intensive, surfing at dialup speeds would be like surfing in slow motion - you wait, then wait some more, twiddle your thumbs, wait some more, then your page loads.
I doubt I could take much of this before I just gave up. |

| Landline goes first
I'd sooner ditch my landline than my fast Internet service. My wife and I often browse the Internet at the same time (on our respective laptops). If we went to dial-up, we might save on monthly ISP costs, but we would need to install at least one more phone line. Plus, we would have to put up with disconnections, slow speeds, and all the other headaches that we left behind when we went broadband. In fact, would dial-up even work over Time Warner Cable's Digital Phone line? If not, we'd probably have to go back to Verizon for phone service and thus pay more for our phone line. -- -Jason Levine Support a children's charity. Buy a calendar and/or a photo book. Hi, If push came to shove DSL would be the choice. I pretty much cut all the movie channels. If they had a lower tier Bundle for Fios. I would "think" about it. |

| Some people just don't care...
There are still people out there that do not care about speed, they only care about price. I don't think the recession is going to drive many people back to dialup but there are plenty of people who will want to stay at a dialup price. Earthlink's $7.95 plan is a short term business plan that's not going to last beyond 5 years. |

Indeed, but I guarantee that if you had DSL or Cable for any length of time, you'd never go back. Now that they have airplanes, no one takes a horse & buggy from New York to L.A. |

no matter how little dial-up costs, the land lines out here are $65 after taxes($70 starting thsi month,) which is about what I pay for high speed AND VOIPo Even if it(dail up) was only $8 a month thats $8 more than I pay now, why go back? |

Anything can go if the situation is bad enough. I already avoid cable/satellite TV; if I had it, it would be the first thing to go.
After that, I would cut expenses in this order: web hosting, going out, paid online games, security system, cell phone, DSL, car expenses, health insurance, dialup, home phone, gas line, mortgage payments, electricity, water. At some point you have to lose your house in foreclosure and move back with your mom
I think I'd keep DSL if I lost my job, but once the savings started running out it would be next. If I were at the point where I'd need dialup, I'd probably be sick of staying home unemployed and want to get out more. |

The press in the country is worthless. They make up stories and ignore anything remotely important that doesn't advance their agenda. They showed this over and over in the last Presidential election. The sad part is that there are still people out there that think the press is an accurate place to get news. There is no reporting of news anymore, just groups that are trying to indoctrinate people into their way of thinking. They all make me sick. |

I would never switch back to dial-up.
Everytime I see that Netzero commercial with their president telling people they should switch from broadband to dial-up, I want to reach through the TV screen and choke that SOB to death. |

Maybe because of the recession, we should downgrade to a Wildcat! BBS. Who's up for a game of Trade Wars 2000?

No way. It would cost more just to connect the dial-up line back up.
Running multi line PCBoard was the stuff back in the day. Not anymore!
Would not go back with all the graphics the web pages have today. I could not see my home network running on dial-up today. I could live without TV. Can't function without an internet connection.
It would be easier to find an open hotspot then to go backwards to dialup. Your days are numbered Earthlink. |
