Charging.....

I think that's a little ridiculous to charge for the ability to remotely control your DVR.

The DISH one sounds interesting. Hopefully AT&T does some thing U-Verse along those lines.

Nice to see...

that the Death Star monitors the front pages of BBR. I'm sure they'll be happy as well as the others to know that most of this scheduling will be going on while they're at work...further cutting productivity!

Re: Nice to see...

If AT$T did that they'd know how many customers either #1 Hate U-Verse or #2 wish they'd just expand the areas they already service instead of turning on the limited service in other cities. and mostly know that #3 they should just give up with their DSL

You might want to go read the latest Consumer Reports. They found almost exactly the opposite.

That DirecTV problem may be resolved soon. Evidently they've kissed and are making up.

The whole thing is kinda silly. It only works on a few select Verizon phones. It should work on all phones with the ability to access the internet, but they cornered themselves with proprietary software that takes way too much time to test and implement on each device.

They charge an extra $4 over a standard DVR. ($19.99 vs. $15.99) The Home Media DVR allows you to stream media from your PC to your TV along with some other features, such as playing back recorded shows on multiple TV's from one location. So the price increase is integrated into other services.

Still, the whole thing is poorly implemented. I should, and would like to program my DVR from any device with access to the internet, but I don't need the other features.

And how many people do that actually call and ask. Very few. But then again Consumer Reports is the one telling customers false information about Whirlpool brand washers.

Hi,
It is free but the Home DVR is what you are paying for.

Welcome to many years ago

TiVo had this functionality for years now, first via unofficial hacks, and then officially supported by TiVo.

All the rest of DVRs can try, but none can be as good as the original TiVo, especially when hacked with third party software.

The live slingbox technology is interesting though, but not new for those who have had a slingbox for years now.

Using Fios TV Now

Maybe Verizon should fix what they stuck the customer with first.

The HDMI interface blows goats, almost daily I have to power cycle the HD DVR.

Customer support recommends using component video, but this unhappy customer recommends they fix the interface and follow the HDMI standard before my departure to some other provider becomes the preferred solution.

I have both connected and the HDMI, when working, sounds better than the other option.

It amazes me that with how much Verizon has put into Fios that it lacks some basic things that Dish, Direct and U-Verse can do.

I though that there was a software update to correct that issue. I had FIOS installed two weeks ago and I can run HDMI without any problem. I'm not home so I don't know what version I am running. The installer did say that now they are recommending HDMI over component.

Like a TRUE 16x9 guide? Who knows why Verizon didn't insist Motorola incorporate a 16x9 guide, like AT&T did.

useless...

They should stop adding these useless extra-cost "features" and focus on the important missing aspects like storage expansion and a 16x9 HD guide so I can see 2.5hrs of guide data instead of 90mins.

Re: Nice to see...

Well why should i believe them? they're the ones that put out information that they claim is true based on interviews by a limited number of people instead of the entire base or even half the base.

Out of the million+ customers that ATT has for U-Verse i'm sure Consumer Reports didn't even has a 1/4 of those customers.

And then you claim that they're true?

Or how about they claim that Whrilpool washer motors are still the best in the industry and still made by Whirlpool. HA! not even true! They're made by another company that actually is a competitor of Whirlpool
