WNDR3700 with a printer

I have the WNDR3700 due to arrive soon. I have read great reviews. My question is my present router has a built in printer server. I have 2 desktops and 2 laptops. Should I also get a seperate print server or just connect it to a pc and set up print sharing? Will the wireless and wired see each other for printer sharing?

Netgear WGR614v7 - Admin pages via wireless & no internet

Why can't I access the admin pages of this Netgear WGR614v7 router wirelessly from a laptop without an internet connection plugged into the internet port?

Linksys routers broadcast their SSID regardless if they are plugged into or live with an internet signal or not. Why does it seem like the Netgear router needs to have an internet connection before it will allow you to access its internal admin pages?

The reason I ask is my friend only has 1 ethernet cable. Since I could not access the admin pages wirelessly I unplugged the internet so I could plug the laptop directly to the router. I'm then able to access the admin pages, but I cannot configure the connection to the internet and/or apparently I can't enable wireless broadcasting of the SSID either because when I unplug the laptop from the router and plug the router back into the cable modem, the wireless signal light turns off on front of the router.

Is this some hidden checkbox security feature that Netgear has setup by default? IE: To not allow wireless SSID broadcasting if an internet connection is not present, for security reasons.

What am I missing? If I could wirelessly access the router admin pages, I could configure the router properly for the internet connection it has. I have tried the hardware reset button to, to no avail.

I realize I could just go buy a cable for him or he could, but he's broke and I don't need to spend anymore money on him if I can do this like I know it should be able to be done.

WNDR3700 vs DIR855 file transfer speed

Somehow i get the feeling after i change from a DIR-855 to a WNDR3700, my file transfer speed to my PC seems to be slowing down, my usenet download also not peaking, my usual speed from usenet downloads avg 3800kB/s now it stays at the region of 3400-3500kB/s
netgear QOS is not turn on fyi.

The wireless range is much better than DIR855 though

Did i miss something or is it my imagination?

WNDR3700 keeps dropping after HDD removed / Media Disabled

I picked up one of these yesterday in hopes it would be as awesome as everyone said it was. Updated firmware to whatever the auto-update downloaded for me, set up 4 computers - two wired, two on the 2.4G band, and things looked splendid. Did some quick speed checks and was running 12/2. Things seemed good.

But then I loaded up WoW, Dawn of War, CoD, etc... and had ridiculous pings. Lots of disconnects. Read about the media server indexing so I removed my USB drive (with about 600 gigs of videos/music, oops!) and disabled the media server. Reset everything and hoped it would solve the problem.

It didn't. I did some registry tweaks on my desktop that helped a bit, but inevitably my pings would skyrocket and I'd get disconnected, along with everyone else in the house.

Not sure what to do at this point but keep flashing different firmware versions and settings until things calm down. Is it possible that the router filled up on indexing my hard drive and now it's... congested?... how do I do a hard factory reset and make sure everything is back to 0?

WNDR3700 and no 130Mbps Connection

Just dropped a new 3700 into my home network and my laptop will only connect to it at 54Mbps or slower. It connects at 130Mbps to the old Dlink 655 just fine.

I have tried setting the mode in wireless to 130Mbps and 300Mbps with no luck. Stuck at 54Mbps :(

For testing purposes there is no encryption setup on the wireless.

Am I missing something in the setup?
