[OLEXP] Outlook express and Outlook - HELP

Hi guys,

I have a little bit of a problem - I have a pretty old laptop on which I use Outlook Express. I got this fancy new HP laptop with the new Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007 etc. etc... And there's no Outlook Express!

So after backing up my contacts and emails etc, (a hefty 4.5 Gb of stuff) I transferred the folder to the new laptop... and - NADA.
Outlook doesn't recognise the files there, and I can't import anything.

I tried looking into several posts concerning it, even thought about installing an older Explorer (6.0 seems to be required for OE), but that doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas? How can I import all the mails and addresses into Outlook and start using that?

Vista 64 bit- connection dies

I'm having quite an odd problem with my network connections. I have a desktop, setup to dual boot XP 32bit and Vista 64bit. i use vista mostly and have noticed the problem on XP too. If I connect to a website and stay on that page for a while, like watching a youtube video for say 5-6 minutes, my internet connection dies. at which point i need to restart my computer, my router, and the cable modem to get connected again.

when this does happen the process for the browser (happened in both IE and Mozilla) stays stuck. if i try to kill it with task manager it wont die and it prevents other programs from starting. i have to hold the power button on the computer to restart it.

I have cable internet and a router (to which i am hardwired). i have a tivo and my desktop computer on the network. i'm running zone alarms free firewall and a free antivirus program.

I'm clueless as to where to start diagnosing the problem. i have already scanned my computer in safe mode with windows defender and spybot s&d with no results. any suggestions for me?

[Vista] getting a serial barcode label printer to work on Vista

I have a toshiba tec b-421 barcode label printer that I got from a friend.. I cant get it to work on my Vista Laptop.. Its a serial connection, and I can connect it but I cant set it up..

I tried the add a new printer option, but this brand isnt listed.

Does anyone know how I can get this thing to work? There is no software CD.. All I want to do with it is print shipping labels using a simple plain text only program..

I also came across a usb to serial adapter and I was thinking of buying it and then trying it that way, hoping Vista would automatically recognize it

[WIN7] 32/64 and English/Chinese licenses interchangeable?

Through my grad school and MSDNAA I have access to four legitimate license keys for Windows 7 Professional: 32-bit English, 32-bit Chinese, 64-bit English, and 64-bit Chinese. Could I theoretically use all four keys to install the 32-bit English version four times? In other words, are the keys independent of 32/64 and/or language? I think the 32-bit and 64-bit keys are interchangeable based on a Google search, but I'm not sure about the different languages.

[XPPro] BSOD when shutting laptop lid

I have a Dell D630 hooked up to a dell docking station...just about a week ago everytime I shut the lid I would get the BSOD. Here is the message that comes up once MS tries to send it off.

C:\DOCUME~1\dw\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5ee8.dir00\Mini112009-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\dw\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5ee8.dir00\sysdata.xml

Any idea what would cause this? i have not installed any new software or hardware recently.

[Beta] Office 2010 Beta (Wow)

Is the New Office 2010 just straight sick or what!!! (That's a good thing for you BBR's over 40 ;) )
I was really enjoying the Tech Preview, but I have to say Wow .... The Office 2010 Beta is Awesome.
I think Between Windows 7 & Office 2010 Microsoft will regain their lost luster in Computing circles.
Thoughts?

[XPHome] Will not run defrag

After having some problems with chkdsk at every boot, I seem to have fixed that with cmd prompt commands picked up through MS site. Now, after offloading a bunch of photos, I would like to defrag using XP deffrag utility. When I try to do so, it sez it will not because Chkdsk /f is scheduled to run. I dutifully run chkdsk, but it still gives this error each time I try to defrag.

I've been concerned about HD for a while but I'm wondering if this is not a problem I committed, somehow setting a flag for chkdsk so that it always indicates it will run.

Thanks for the help.
