[Line Problem] 2wire DSL Elite disconnects very often!

As the subject says, my connection keeps disconnecting every so often usually during the evenings or late nights. I'm not running any p2p programs or something. Just the occasional online gaming and such.

1) Which AT&T DSL Package do you have –
Basic (768kbps down), Express (1.5Mbps down), Pro (3.0Mbps down), Elite (6.0Mbps down)
Elite

2) Which modem brand and model do you have? (if Speedstream 5100, does it have 4 or 5 lights)
2wire 2701HG-B Gateway

3) Are you using a router? If so, provide the brand and model.
No, just 2wire modem with wireless

4) Is your PPPoE login info (username & password) entered in the modem, in your router or do you use PPPoE software?
Yes it's entered in

5) Describe the lights on the modem when the trouble occurs.
Dsl light is red and internet light is not on. Then when the connection comes back, both lights become solid green

6) Confirm that you’ve checked to ensure that ALL devices plugged into the wall jacks serviced by your DSL phone number (except the DSL modem) have filters fitted.
No phone line. Using dsl direct so no other wall jacks have anything plugged in or filters in place.

7) Confirm that you’ve powered off the modem and started it again and whether or not that made any changes with your problem.
Done that but problem still occurs

8) Do you hear any type of noise on the DSL phone line or any other unusual telephone symptoms?
No

9) Provide line stats as follows…
DSL Connection Details

Review this thread to refresh on my previous issues while on Elite.

Now, I'm on Pro and getting random disconnects. Except for seeming to happen only during waking hours, there's no apparent pattern. I've had this happen multiple times in the same day, as well as gone weeks without incident.

Here are current stats from my 2wire:

I haven't been paying close attention, but, except for CRCs, the numbers seem to be relatively stable. There are no apparent issues with voice (unless you count calls for some guy named Jesus).

[General] how to setup for AT&T DSL if using my own modem/router

So I've just ordered the basic DSL plan from AT&T (southern California region). A few years back, I had service with SBC and got their Speedstream 5100b modem. I'm planning on using this modem and my own wireless router to get myself online. If I remember correctly, back then SBC used PPPoE and required a login. Is this requirement still the same now with AT&T? How do I sign up and create a login account to get online initially...seeing how I won't be receiving any installation CD from AT&T?

Thanks!

Web pages load just fine 95% of the time, hang 5% of time

Hi! I was hoping you guys might be able to help me with a supremely annoying issue I've been having lately with my DSL.

The issue:I have SBC residential DSL, and the vast majority of the time, everything works just fine. However, maybe 5% of the time - or once or twice an hour, for about a minute or two - when I try to load a web page, it just hangs and says "Loading." I'm not getting disconnected, though, just stuck with a loading page. Sometimes, I can make the page load if I hit "Reload" a bunch of times or push "Stop" and then "Reload" over and over. This is a problem on both my Mac laptop and my XP desktop. I'm connecting over wireless on both computers.

What I've tried: I've power cycled my combo modem/router, reset it to its factory settings, changed my wireless channel to one that none of my neighbors are using, ensured that both computers are up to date, reinstalled my PC's wireless card with the newest drivers (they weren't out of date before, though), and called SBC about four times to no avail.

A family friend said he'd had a similar problem, and that it happened because his ISP used some sort of intermediary caching device (or something) that would periodically cache popular web sites. In effect, the ISP's customers were actually receiving data not from the site itself, but from some other server transmitting a (very recently) cached version of the site. Anyway, my friend suggested that hitting "Reload" a couple of times might cause my computer to bypass this caching device and load from the site itself. This was all above my level of tech knowledge, so I don't know if this information is legit or not, or if I'm explaining it 100% correctly. At any rate, I'm not 100% certain whether this applies to my case, because I think I'm having this issue with all web sites, not just popular ones like, say, Google or Facebook.

Recent system changes: I recently formatted and reinstalled XP on my desktop, though not because of this issue. (I just did it because it had been years since I'd done so, and I wanted to speed up the computer in general.) I'm not positive, but I think the issue was present before this (and it seems highly unlikely to me that reformatting my PC would affect my Mac's internet connection). I also replaced the PC's dead PSU.

I have a Netopia combo modem/router, model number 3347-02, about a year old.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you!

[Line Problem] DSL connection issues

I’ve had my DSL for 3.5 months at a new location and have noticed that I’m being disconnected quite a bit. Typically it would occur Friday night or Saturday morning but as of late its gotten more frequently and is happening every 2 to 3 days. I assumed that it was my DSL modem going bad (Speedstream 5100B) and replaced the modem with the current Motorola 2210 but that same disconnects continue to occur. I was doing my PPPOE authentication through my Linksys WRT54GL router but switched to having the DSL modem to perform the PPPOE authentication and the same disconnects still occur. After each disconnect when looking at the connection information page in the modem it states that my PAP authentication connection failed. I’ve contacted AT&T customer support and they performed some line tests and state that everything appears to be good. Any help would be greatly appreciated in resolving this issue.

1) Which AT&T DSL Package do you have –
Basic (768kbps down), Express (1.5Mbps down), Pro (3.0Mbps down), Elite (6.0Mbps down)

Elite (6.0Mbps down, 768kbps up)

2) Which modem brand and model do you have? (if Speedstream 5100, does it have 4 or 5 lights)

Motorola 2210

3) Are you using a router? If so, provide the brand and model.

Linksys WRT54GL

4) Is your PPPoE login info (username & password) entered in the modem, in your router or do you use PPPoE software?

PPOE is done via the DSL Modem

5) Describe the lights on the modem when the trouble occurs.

Internet light goes out and sometimes the DSL sync light turns red.

6) Confirm that you’ve checked to ensure that ALL devices plugged into the wall jacks serviced by your DSL phone number (except the DSL modem) have filters fitted.

All jacks have filters except DSL modem jack

7) Confirm that you’ve powered off the modem and started it again and whether or not that made any changes with your problem.

Power cycled modem multiple times with issues still present

8) Do you hear any type of noise on the DSL phone line or any other unusual telephone symptoms?

Phone line has no noticeable noise.

AT&T "Special Offers" Mysteriously Never Arrive..

This is the second time I've signed up for DSL in 7 years under a promotion, and AT&T didn't come through. This time it was for 3 months x $19.95 credit for DSL service, and a $100 gift card for switching from cable -- I distinctly remember seeing this offer at check-out. It's been three months since I've signed up, and no word at all about the gift card. I've called AT&T reps, and they claim that I didn't sign up under that offer, and am ineligible for it..

I unfortunately forgot to get screen shots of my order confirmation for backup, so I guess I'm hosed. This is the second time I've been screwed by an AT&T promotion. Has anyone actually received the "$100 cable switch" promotion?

Alcatel 1000 - still at 1.5 following 3.0 upgrade with AT&T.

I am using an Alcatel ADSL 1000 for ~10yrs. Up until 2008 I had a static IP, but changed to non-static as it had been costing $50 /mth. Oddly enough at&t did not have me make any changes following the change from static IP. My bandwidth was 1.5 mbs. Testing typically indicated ~1.3mbs.

Recently I upgraded to 3.0mbs, but my tests indicated no change in up or down speeds. Having called at&t , they want to run some tests to verify the source of the problem and I have a feeling my old Alcatel may be the problem OR they may force me to upgrade just to eliminate it as a possible problem.

I need some advice. Will the Alcatel 1000 even work at 3.0 ? If I am forced to upgrade, is it best to take at&t's likely offer to sell me a new modem OR is it as easy to pick something or ebay that on the at&t approved list and configure it myself.

Any advice would be much appreciated !
