I just got this error message today when using earthlink usenet services:

"username has exceeded monthly bandwidth limits"

Since when did earthlink reinstate their quota???!

--update--

Earthlink did not reinstate any quotas for usenet usage. I had the support rep reset my download history. hopefully they will resolve the issue by tomorrow.

Anyone else running into this?

How Negoiate Earthlink DSL?

I have the EL 1.5 DSL now on a home line.

I would like to add EL 3M DSL on a home office POTs line I have that is employer liable and eventually drop my old EL.

The only issue is I dont want to pay the $44/mo EL want for 3M. Where can I go/call to negotiate this rate to about $34/mo which is what my CLEC charges.

I tried the sales live chat but it seemed like my agent (Everyone's All American) Allan S. didnt have authority to change any rates, although he did have a good recipe for Chicken Makhan.

Who do I go to to get a rate match? I'd rather stay with earth line but I cant ignore $10/mo.

I have multiple email addresses. I can log in to 2 of them using Webmail.earthlink.net with no problems but when I try to log into the third I get an error after several seconds: "Sorry. Login to mail server failed. Please try again.". I verified the account. This started happening today. The email address has worked for several years. Any ideas?

Is anyone else getting this? I just got this. What the heck? Is that why ELN's news servers were down last week? Did they deploy caps (what are the limits)? :(

Hello all. I have a client with Earthlink business DSL and an old Netopia 2247-02 modem router which has a very limited feature set. I'd like to replace it with a Dlink or Netgear. Are there any particular models that work well with Earthlink?

Problem Accessing News Groups This Morning

Was OK last night, but this morning I get a "Server could not be found" window popping up when I try to read the EL news groups.
I'm using OE 6 as my newsgroup reader and I have 'demonews.mindspring.com' set as the server.
Since it was OK last night and I haven't made any changes; I'm guessing their server is down but since I haven't seen any others mentioning this - maybe it's me.
Anyone else having a problem this morning?

[Speed Problem] Slow speed test - downstream

I was noticing slow window mapping on the IE7 browser. Decided it was taking to long to load. I did a speed test and line quality test from the "tools" area.

My download was around 750 Kbps. I powered off/on the ZyXel P660 and logged back in. Same slow download speeds.

My diagnostics on the modem were fine. Noise and attenuation were within the specs that Dr.Olds has presented here so many times [ Thanks Doc !].

What I didn't do was a "reset of the modem". That little hole on the back of the modem that you stick a paper clip into and push the tiny reset button.

After doing this, my problem cleared up. My download speed was back up to 1250'ish Kbps, again.

I am not sure what happens, other than the modem gets full of cobwebs and needs some cleaning of it's brains.

Anyhow ...just a little info on what to do if your download speed test is slow before you call EL and wait in the "telephone que"...

[Services] Keep an eye on your Earthlink bill if paying w/ auto

Reviewing my credit card statement, I found Earthlink had increased my bill by $10 for the last few months. (I haven't changed any part of my service or speed for over a year). They put it back to the normal rate when challenged, and just said oops, sorry! No reason given.

Check your statements!

[Line Problem] No DSL Signal Aparently

HI..If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I have Earthlink DSL in SF Bay Area for years. Same hardware and software setup and has been running great. Last used Friday night (11/06) about 10:00 PM with no issues. I tried to access again Saturday morning with no luck. Tried rebooting the modem, etc. and no luck. No outages reported on EL support page.

Because from my initial experience years ago, I knew calling tech support would just start me through a bunch of scripts, I started to test on my own. I connected the Broadmax UHP modem HSA300A-2 directly to the telephone service drop where it enters the house and disconnected all other lines within the house to eliminate the possibility of interference. The Broadmax synch light just flashed amber continuously and would not connect (I had it in bridge mode). I then attempted the hardware reset on the Broadmax and that did not work - now the synch light flashes alternating amber green. I tried connecting to the Broadmax with my laptop but could not access the modem to get to the diagnostics..I understand there are some issues with VISTA working/communicating with this old modem. So I bought a new Netgear DG834 modem/router and hooked it into the phone line at the service drop and its DSL indicator light did not light or flash at all indicating there is no DSL signal on the line.

I am now convinced my interior wiring and hardware are not the issue and that there is no DSL signal on the line entering the house either because of the telco or Earthlink. I tried live chat support at Earthlink but they just started the script of disconnecting hardware checking software settings etc. This will not help because there is no synch occurring right at the service entrance. Live Chat referred me to their call-in support where I just start getting run through scripts about my hardware software setup. I am at the office days so I cannot physically be present to respond to the scripted requests which are irrelevant anyway because there is no synch at the service entrance. Is there any contact where someone can just get right to checking the status of the service on my line i.e., whether it was inadvertantly disconnectd or reprovisioned away or something?

Sorry for the long winded post..just do not know how to proceed without wasting hours going through irrelevant scripts.
