daily recurrent loss of DSL connection overnight

I can't tell at what time the problem starts, but I have noticed it first Saturday morning. I called tech support, but other than a line check, nothing much could be done, as the connection came back online during the call. On Sunday, there was no DSL for several hours in the morning. It happened again today. The failure can be seen on the SpeedStream modem - the atm light does not come on.

DSL finally came back up sometime around 7 AM this morning.

The problem goes away for an unknown reason. Although I try all the customary procedures to fix a connection, they do nothing.

Logic says that since it occurs in the same time period daily, something must be happening on phone lines outside my control.

This is unacceptable. I'm paying for DSL 24/7, not just when the phone lines feel up to carrying it. The issue sure looks like it needs to investigated with the phone company.

have sent PM with account information.

[DSL] D-link modem + Linksys router = fail?

I just switched from SBC (AT&T) to DSL Extreme for my DSL service. The AT&T service used the PPPoE configuration; the DSL Extreme I guess is just a straight DHCP connection.

When I connect my computer directly to the d-link modem (2320B), I get internet. When I connect the d-link modem to the linksys router (WRT54G)e, I can see the router but have no internet. This is persistent through (computer) reboots.

I thought it might have something to do with the IP conflict (modem default IP is 192.168.1.1; router default is same), so I changed the router IP to 192.168.1.2. Problem persists.

Also, though I could see it at first, I cannot access the modem when I am plugged into it directly (via 192.168.1.1).

l more than a litttle stupid on this one and am not sure what to do. DSL Extreme tech support quite firmly insists that they will not help me troubleshoot.

Any help out there?

DHCP DSL option; southern california; Win Vista 64;

Email Issues Anyone?

I just found out that a number of my emails are being blocked by well known spam blockers such as Postini. Now at first i thought it might be due to using html type email but that is not the case. I use Mozilla Thunderbird and by default all email I send is regular text. So recently I sent a few emails to friends at a company that uses Postini to filter spam and stuff. I didn't get any replies and no emails bounced. I contacted my friends and none of them got my emails in there Inbox. I've never had this problem in the past. I tried sending email from both my dslextreme.com address as well as a standard gmail.com address I recently set up. None of them got through. I created an email account with live.com (Hotmail) and all emails got through just fine. I had a couple of folks check there postini mail center options, and none of them had a specific block but all were able to find my previous emails in there spam box. The problem is not with the users, rather that Postini has added a general block for all gmail servers which DSLExtreme now uses. A lot of large companies use services like Postini to filter there email before it gets to there company servers. I used to work at one. This is totally unacceptable and I hope someone at DSLX will get this looked into. If you need to know what domain I am trying to send email too, let me know and I'll PM it. I've tried over 10 people at this company and none of the emails I send from dslextreme.com get through.

billing problem - a different one this time

The good news is that it does not involve the credit card # this time.

OK, now for the worse news - it looks like I was wrongly switched to a month-by-month account. I was charged more than the usual amount and went to the dslextreme site to find out what happened. First, there are definite problems with the billing area of the site - error pages would often appear when navigating it.

I never could find an invoice for this incorrect amount. Strangely enough, the most recent invoice is for $0.00 The older invoices are for the correct amount

I did send an email and received an automated response with a ticket #. Problem 2 - I can't find anywhere on the site to look up a ticket.

The "real" response that arrived showed that the rep wasn't paying attention. The rep didn't get the fact that I have always had a yearly account. It doesn't come up for renewal until next month, and this is easily proven. The oldest invoice shows that the DSL service started in December a couple of years back.

I simply don't have the time to waste on hold and debating this over the phone.
I'm right. DSL Extreme is wrong.
I sent another email message in response to the short and incorrect message from the CR

I'm not going to trust that this will solve the issue. My experience has been that I have to bring the issues up here for them to get attention.

I'm sending a PM to the GM so this will be noticed.

[DSL] Dry Loop DSL Conversion Process Confirmation

I'm a current DSLExtreme subscriber in a Verizon region. According to the FAQ and a chat I had on DSLX's support site, dry loop DSL is available in my area.

I'm trying to figure out the process to cancel my Verizon home phone without inadvertently canceling my DSL.

Here's what the FAQ says:
quote:The easiest way is to drop your phone line and keep your DSL with no downtime in Verizon areas.

To me, that sounds like I just call Verizon, cancel the phone service, and I'm done. No downtime, no need to notify DSLExtreme. Simple.

However, in my chat, I tried to confirm that. I eventually got frustrated at the lack of completeness in the rep's replies and figured I'd ask here. Here's what I got from him:
quote:Erik:
Ok for your area we do offer dryloop dsl. Basic: 1.0Mbps Prices starting at... $14.95/mo Pro: 3.0Mbps Prices starting at... $24.95/mo All packages are also subject to a $2.88 Supplier Surcharge Recovery Fee which is comprised of Federal Universal Service Fund recovery fees that are still charged on core components within the DSL Extreme network as well as a supplier imposed surcharge which is not a tax or government imposed fee.
Erik:
Anything else?
Joshua:
I'm already a subscriber, but not dryloop. What do I have to do to maintain DSL service when I cancel the phone service?
Erik:
There will be downtime when you switch.

So, what do I need to do?

Router Setup

First off, the packaging and instructions on the modem blows. Signed up for the 3000/512 Dynamic DSL Promo. Followed the instuctions and expect to set the ROUTER to PPPoE and setup Username/Password but no go. After 2 tech support calls they got it up and running direct from PC. Had to set the TCP/IP General . Too bad it wasn't on the instuctions!!!

Now, how do I set up the wireless router? Its a DD-WRT so have plenty of options but only mode I've set up before was PPPoE using Username/Password.
