Any question: how do we know what type of wires do we have?
Never heard of them, does anyone have a url link for them?

Re: How come so much farther than others?

Later than others? My DSLAM wasn't installed until November/December of '99. How much later could theirs be and what advancements could there be in a month or two?
Anon

Re: How come so much farther than others?

I'm not talking about installation dates, but about when they created the architecture for their DSLAMs. They have been providing many other broadband services up until last year when they decided to come out with a DSLAM product. They therefore had the opportunity to see what had been implemented by CopperMtn, Paradyne, etc...and create their product based on what worked and didn't on the others. As far as installations...as far as I know, NewEdge was the first to use Newbridge as their DSLAM provider and I think they started installing their DSLAMs in Dec '99. What are you using with your ISP and how is your DSL play going?

Re: the #'s are wrong 17,200 is the limit

How did you find the new distance #'s. I went to their page and found nothing about distance. And the distance page here basically covers nothing but SDSL. We are getting DSL through a local ips that is using New Edge. I would like to know what distances are required from the CO for the ADSL connections. Second, anyone know what a "loop test" is?
Anon

Re: the #'s are wrong 17,200 is the limit

a loop test is a metallic loop test it shows how long your loop actually is. You have to be physically connetted to the test equipment to have it done. prequalification is from database info.

This is correct ESTIMATES. Although, availability is dependent on the quality of service your copper pair has.

Re: Time to start this forum up!

Hell Ya I'm upset with them.. The 1 and only reason to get DSL for me was online games.. Which by the way I can't play because of Crappy service. Plus the fact that For what I'm paying I could get 3 56k Dail up accounts for the same damn speed. I'm getting the 385/128 but it seems to almost always 30kps

Re: Time to start this forum up!

How did you determine the problem was with New Edge and not your ISP?

Have you bothered to FTP something from your computer to your ISP, and from your ISP to your computer?

That is the only way to test your DSL connection; if your 30K transfers are the result of congestion traversing the Internet... then that isn't a New Edge problem.
Anon Tenforward.com is my ISP, but they lease thier lines from Newedge networks. don't know if its the combo of either of my isp or thier crappy Carrier? But I really don't have a choice. There is only 2 ISP's in this area that has DSL and both use Newedge networks.. Isn't that a kick in the shit!! No cable modems as well. the cable company is still in the 60's as far as tech goes
Anon
ironfists.

I have tenforward as well. I live in Port angeles though. Tenforward just had a few more T1's installed and my service is way better now. Northland will be providing cable internet service in the future. Probably short after the fiber optic trunk is finally routed out to the penninsula.

I find it weird how you are on a true asyncronous line, where i am on a syncronous one. I signed for 768/384, but my speeds are actually 650/650. That's what they have me capped at because i've never seen it go above that. The only difference between my service, and the 768SDSL package, is that i have no SLA...

I suggest you start pullin' tenforwards' chain. Ask for darren . He's the head of the billing dept. I'm sure he'd love to hear from you. Just get your facts straight.

Did they call you and give you your new network details? Or are you still sill on the 209.x.x.x octet?

and does tenforward have an office in sequim or do they just have the one in P.A.?

Well i got 384 SDSL from ZAPLINE via new edge networks...the bandwith is fine...but latency is sometimes an issue i have been everywhere from 189 to 50ms on 1st hop from my router to my gateway@zapline ZAPLINE has been helpful in tryin to keep my latency down but its new edges circuit...overall i give NEW EDGE a B for service

Anon Well I signed up with INconnect.com last October and my service has been pretty good for the most part. I asked for 384/128 and got 384 SDSL, so I'm happy with that. But I'm really looking into going to 768/384, but if what New Edge installs is 650 SDSL, that'd be even better. Only thing is that $89/mo is pretty steep.

But as for my ping times, they are all over the map: When I first got DSL installed, I wouldn't see anything less than 220ms. But it gradually fell to 20ms by February, but lately it went back up to 170-200ms over the past three weeks. Still yet, my current ping times have dropped again and are between 80 and 90ms. I've called ICCX (also with INconnect.com) but they aren't exactly certain what the problem is. But at least they've said they'll get back to me.

Otherwise the service has faired pretty good. Uptime is excellent, and ping times seem to be my only concern at this moment.

Re: Time to start this forum up!

JGene,

90% of the time, ISPs are the result of layer 3 problems. New Edge Networks only transports layer 2 to the ISP, and they provide layer 3 to you. Test this out like FlyingKiwi said by downloading a local file from the ISP.

Also, are you pinging Interconnect's gateway? Or an IP outside their network?

Interconnect is not overloaded on their circuit to New Edge.

I live in Owatonna, MN and after many phone calls and much research on my part on the internet I discovered that Next Oasis »www.nextoasis.com and BritSys »www.britsys.com can provide me residential ADSL service. Next Oasis has told me that I'm 5580' from the CO. Both of these ISPs go through NEN and use Efficient Networks modems/routers. Can anyone tell me if they've ever dealt with NewEdge in Minnesota, and if not are Efficient routers standard with NEN? The customer support rep that I'm in contact with at Next Oasis forwarded me information about the 5800-series Efficient routers... Does any know which one specifically that I would be using? I'm guessing the 5861 just by looking at the specs. Thanks for any help.

My experience

Well, I finally got my install done yesterday, and the line doesn't work. I have IDSL from RMI and New Edge and the techs came out to set it up and we could not ping the gateway. well, after about 1.5 hrs of troubleshooting, the tech made a call to someone (new edge? RMI?) and they stated that the co was having a problem with a card and it would be fixed soon. So I continue to wait. I ordered this in Oct. of last year and still have none. I am trying to get someone on the phone now to find out what the expected in service time is. New Edge is my only option (no cable) and i cant get ADSL due to a remote switch. I just wish that the companys that provide broadband would stop spending money on advertising and put that money into equipment and installs...

Question for Sunblast

(This is a repost of mine from another thread)

I'm having NEN adsl installed this week and I am curious about something you may be able to help me with.

I've read a little on "interleaving versus fast-path" and was wondering what is implemented on one of your standard turn-ups. Seeing as how I'm more interested in a lower ping (online gaming), fast-path would appear to beneficial to me. What's your company's policy on the subject?

Can interleaving be removed from my line?

Any comment or words of wisdom on the matter would be appreciated...

what's up with IC&C

this place is a little slow so i'll post some useless material on it..

I was wanting idsl so and i thought my only option was IC&C out of seattle and they tried making me pay $300 for a router(and thats with a huge rebate too) $200 for the install, and $200 if i wanted move and have my idsl switched to a different house(a probability with a college student like myself)... AND they wanted me to sign a 2 year contract.. So i basically told them to screw off and thought about the joys of a dialup.. BUT THEN i found another isp to offer idsl in my area, FOR $0 install, 0$ equipment, and $99 dollars to switch houses all on the same 2 year contract.. MONEY!!! i was set, so i have the guy send me the contracts and what do they say at the top.. "internet commerce and communication"!!!

why is this world so screwed up

Actual Distance:

Does anyone know the actual Distance NEN will go out to least latest or they still at 18,000 feet I'm in the Tucson Arizona area and I'm just curious. It tuff trying to still get DSL for my area been trying for 2 years. I've been tested at 12,500 feet from the CO to about 14,500 and even 17,500 I don't think they really know what I'm really at.

I had New Edge network/Qwest Test me last year sometime they came up with 21,000 for loop test and then I had Qwest do 2 Loop test month ago they came back with 20,000 Feet, 23,000 Feet with bridge tap on the line.

Qwest is hard working with it seems half the time they wont even help u and when they do they seem to do there job way to fast.

Re: Actual Distance:

NEN will go out 17200 ft on 384 connections. Anything over that distance gets dropped to IDSL 128 which is way too expensive for home use. Unfortunately, you never know the actual distance until the telephone company puts the line in. Sometimes the telco seems to wrap the line around the house a few times. I've had many friends who have "qualified" for service and after the line was installed the distance was way over the limit.

I know a guy who qualified for ADSL 768/384 and when Ameritech went out to SOC the line, it ended up being 9,000 feet farther away than estimated. Now he can't even get the 384/128. Another guy was 6,000 feet farther. That would have to wrap around the BLOCK a couple of times

That's awesome.

Do you go through RMI in Denver also?

If so, what state are you located in?

I am curious if I have Interleaving on my line. My ping times are more than I had anticipated. Dr.Ping gives me a 103. After a tweak test I have a pretty stable ping around 93ms.

Rarely am I able to get into either a Quake2 or Half-Life server at less than 100ms.

If 20ms could be shaved off that would be nice. Could you tell me what speed of service(kb/s), maxMTU and RWIN you're using/have.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, if Sunblast is still around his input would also be appreciated.

Currently at: 400/400, maxMTU=1500, RWIN=10220 (as suggested by DSLR online tweak tester)

400/400 may sound strange but I watched the guy put those numbers in when he set it up. Pretty sweet since my contract is for 384/128

NEN comes to MICH.

Hey,
Just want to welcome New Edge to the small city of Port Huron, MI.
We've been waiting for broadband here for years. First it was the cable company planning to offer it in 1999. Then another cable company bought that one and said it will be offering it by mid 2000. Then Once again, that company was bought by now Comcast. the @home service is due here in a few months... yeah... Where did I hear that before?

Anyways, New Edge came to town and and I have my DSL ordered. In fact, Ameritech has already installed my DSL line! My connection date is 4/13/01.

Since I'm the very first DSL Line install from this CO, I'm hoping there are no problems come the 13th.

Do connection installs usually go smooth? Gawd.. I hope mine does... it's been a long time coming!

I wish you luck. I'm also from Port Huron and ordered 384k SDSL through Megapath/New Edge Networks back on Feb 1st. After Ameritech accidently cancelled a bunch of new edge networks orders due to a "software glitch" (if you believe that, I have some beach front property to sell you in Alaska), I finally received a FOC date and Ameritech ran the line on 3/23/01. After not hearing anything and emailing megapath a couple of times I finally find out that Ameritech can't provision my line for SDSL (still waiting to find out why exactly). My only option now is $140/month business class IDSL. Rather disapointing after all this waiting to get SOME kind of broadband in Port Huron. If you don't mind I'd love to hear how your install goes. Fastest SDSL Speeds

I was just curious as to what the fastest SDSL speed is, or if it involves multiplexing the lines together. According to my router it can sync up at 2330Kbps.Is this achieved by multiplexing two 1.0Mbps lines together?

SDSL will actaully sync at 2320. There is no multiplexing involved. Although, NEN doesn't sell that speed. The highest speed that NEN will sell at is 1.1.
