They should of put a external antenna port on the modem....

Right now im only get 1 bar on my clear motorola home modem. A quick fix would of getting a external antenna and hooking it up to the modem but theres no antenna ports on the modem so now im going to have to find a solution. Right now I got a plastic weatherproof enclosure that im going to try outside after finding out the clear tower is NW from me about 3.5 miles. I will post the results and pics of this enclosure that some co workers made for me but Im just wondering does anyone have any tips or tricks for the modem other then putting it near a window and turning it quarter turns till you get the best signal?

Thanks.

Tower locator for Austin and San Antonio

A lot of folks ask the question "how far am I from the nearest Clear Wimax tower?" I added a neat little app to my website that will answer that question for the Austin and San Antonio coverage areas. If you are contemplating getting Clear in these areas, give it a try. This also gives you a starting point when trying to figure out where the best location for a home modem is.

This app will show only "live" towers, and only the closest one to the address typed in. I've checked it against many addresses in Austin and San Antonio, and it seems to be spot on with regards to finding the correct tower. I get the tower info from the local Clear sales group.

I'd like to add more cities to the search. We'll see if Clear will allow for it. It takes no time to load up a csv file provided by Clear. See what you think...

Cascaded routing

I posted this already but maybe I need to reword it.

First, I have the CPEi25150 then I have a Vonage adapter (V-Portal) with my router WRT54GL connected to that. The V-Portal has port forwarding and I can turn off DHCP too.

Everything works fine (wireless WPA2) but I have a "Net cam" (It's a security cam) that connects to my router (wired or wifi WEP) and uses a Dynamic DNS service (viewnetcam.com)

Obviously I have to use the Ethernet connection for the cam but it doesn't work like it used to with Comcast.

It was mentioned that I had too many NATs, so can I just turn off DHCP in the Vonage device along with DHCP in the router?

Also I'd like to flash the router with DD-WRT firmware to have the virtual net option to use the WEP and WPA2 together.

I'm not an expert and my last attempt left my modem kind of useless.
Looking for some knowledge here. Thanks!

CWire - Mobile Broadband Quality - Would Appreciate Comments

Since Clearwire seems to be the only carrier offering unlimited mobile broadband (no 5 gig monthly cap) I would appreciate comments and feedback from those of you who are actually using them for this service.

I live in Dallas-Fort Worth and travel throughout the south and along the Gulf Coast to areas such as Ft. Walton Beach Fla.

What do you think of their connectivity quality and what about coverage through the Gulf Coast region.

I understand from reading other posts that if you use them, you are pretty much on your own (no quality technical support). But I have a strong technical background and can handle most normal issues.

Thank You For Your Comments.

VPN not working on Clear

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem, or has had the problem and knows of a resolution.

I've just been upgraded to Clear from Clearwire here in Seattle. On Clearwire, I had no problems whatsoever connecting to my VPN (basic PPTP, no other users are having issues connecting). However, once I switched to the new Clear modem, I'm no longer able to connect.

I was connected to VPN through the Clearwire modem, the FedEx guy dropped off the new Clear modem, I made the switch, and I was no longer able to connect to VPN. Getting the following error;

Error 806: a connection between your computer and the VPN server has been established but the VPN connection cannot be completed. The most common cause for this is that there is at least one internet device between your computer and the VPN server is not configured to allow GRE protocol packets Verify that protocol 47 GRE is allowed on all personal firewall devices or routers. if the problem persists, contact your administrator.

Not that it matters, but I have great coverage...5 bars, and consistent 8-9Mb. Going through a Linksys WRT54g router. I've tried both wireless, and connected directly to the modem, both unsuccessfully.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
