Question for DSL Co CEO's - Competition Bureau do u use it?

Have you guys leveraged this agency yet?

For years of working in the PC business I found it a very powerful deterrent to stop FutureShop from running false promos.

Bell has done numerous anti-competitive measures in this industry. Have any of you filed formal complaints with them?

I can tell you I've had some discussions with them and they're certainly have Bell on their Radar for other reasons. They claim no one is coming forward from the industry and actually filing any complaints.

My parents just got us hooked up with a new ISP called Ottawa South Highspeed.

its absolutely insane! im getting like 16mb/s download AND upload! our other two companies (rogers and bell) were absolutely terrible, then my dad found one of the pamphlets and gave it a shot. best thing we ever did internet wise...Ive never had such consistent and fast internet in my LIFE, if you use msn or facebook or torrents or youtube and live in this area you would be crazy not to try OSH.

Help/Advice with my Line Statistics please

Hello. I have always had a problematic line but a few years ago, I was able to get them to cut some wiring dead-ahead to get a stable 1728/640 (interleaved) using my trusty old Speedtouch Home. A few months ago, I asked my ISP, Velcom, to ask Bell to examine my line statistics again because I had a different modem hooked up that was capable of RE-ADSL (reach extended) in the form of a Speadtream 5200 E242. They were able to changed by profile to 2496/800 fast path, with no to very few errors and the RX SNR usually ranged between 10 to 14 decibels.

A few days ago, the phone line "gremlins" have resurfaced. Interestling enough, I have always received better line statistics inside the house than when I hook my modem directly to the jack at the demarcation point (bridge tap at work here? extra 100 or 200 meters inside my house adding more distance making a better connection?). Before Bell changed the profile yesterday to 2496/640 interleaved, I went to the demarc and got about 1850/800 with SS5200 and about 1000/800 with ST516 (this modem really didn't like something at the demarc!)
- but a little higher with the SS5200 and a lot higher with the ST516 if connected inside the house.
You will notice that I have tried 2 different modems to rule that out as the problem. I have tried a different phone wire and have tried different jacks within my house. I have even hooked up to the demarcation point (with even worse results).

In the picture are the line stats from my ST516v6 and in the text below are statistics from my SS5200 E242. SS5200 E242 is a lot more aggressive in connecting at higher speeds but results in more errors. ST516 refuses to connect at higher speeds for the "bad" portions of the signal but that results in much more stability (is more fussy and won't connect at rx snr below 7.0). I have a Bell techncian coming today to look at the line.

Advice/thoughts/insight? Thanks.

New Ottawa ISP - Anyone Know About This One?

Hi all. Just got a flyer at the door about a new ISP that serves a limited area in Ottawa South. They are called Ottawa South Highspeed and their website is www.oshwcn.ca

They offer a wireless service with very high speeds of up to 25Mbps. Between the stuff on the flyer and their website they answer most of the questions I'd have of what I'm looking for if I were to switch ISP's.

Anyone heard of these guys? I'm *content* with my current service but the things these guys claim to provide is way crazy better than I get now. Of all the things I look for in an ISP reliability and uptime are of the utmost importance hence why I would hesitate to switch. One good thing is they don't ask for a contract so I may try them out for a couple months to see how things go.

HELP! Uniserve and Bell have me trapped in an endless cycle!

I have no love for Uniserve and Bell. I once thought very highly of Uniserves customer service but now it has been twisted and turned into an eternal pit of darkness. Read on for my endless tale of woe.

It all started in the last week of August 2009 when we had a big storm that fried my modem (an old Ovislink which I'd had for years). Not only that, it damaged some wires outside the house. Ever since then my once good internet connection has gone to hell.

Every time it rains my internet goes down. I have a VOIP phone line with Comwave so if I complain to them they just say I must speak to my ISP to have any technical details dealt with.

So I always end up calling my ISP, Uniserve, and complaining to them. They contact a Bell technician who either tweaks a setting or says everything is ok. But the Bell tech only comes when it's nice and sunny outside and my connection is steady, not when when it's raining and I have no connection at all.

Over the past few months I have replaced my modem (I even have a spare, both SpeedStream 5200's), tried a spare router, had the Demarker box replaced on the side of my house, replaced a wire going from the Demarker box to the inside of my house, had Bell say they've upgraded equipment on their end, and have had several tweaks to various settings by Bell. But every time it rains my internet still goes down.

On October 18th I had one Bell technician, Cameron, come to my house just as I was leaving. He called me an hour later to say he discovered the wire from my house to the telephone pole needed to be replaced but was unable to do it himself because my neighbor's truck was blocking the driveway and he had no way to get his equipment past it. He said either himself or another tech would come by later in the week to replace it.

"GREAT!" I thought. It makes perfect sense. It's an outside wire, and my problems only happen when it rains, that must be it! Other techs try to blame my modem(s) which is safe and dry inside the house, brilliant. "I'm looking forward to that wire being replaced!"

Well here it is over 1 month later and I'm still looking forward to that wire being replaced. Cameron never returned. Every Bell tech who has come by since has done everything BUT replace that wire.

I've been on the phone with Uniserve almost every day since asking them to get Bell to replace that wire. They get Bell to send someone out but they do something else instead. And still rains and my internet goes down.

I tried calling Cameron myself and left him a voicemail but haven't heard back. I gave Uniserve Cameron's number so they could follow up with him, but still nothing.

This past weekend I even called Bell, gave them Camerons info, and said I'll pay them out of my own pocket to specifically send someone out to replace that wire. But no, I'm not a Bell customer so the request has to come from my ISP.

AAAARRRGHH!!!

So the cycle continues.
1. It rains and my internet goes down.
2. I call up Uniserve and complain, giving them very specific instructions that that one little wire needs to be replaced.
3. Bell technician comes when it's sunny and dry and my internet is already back up, and he does whatever he feels like doing instead of what his orders tell him to do, and leaves.
4. REPEAT!

I've filed a complaint with the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services against Uniserve as they say it's ultimately up to my ISP to fix the problem. Other than that I don't know what else I can do.

If I switch to another ISP or phone provider it will still fall back to Bell to fix the wires. If I switch to Bell for my phone or internet I'll end up paying excruciatingly high prices for limited features and service just to get them to fix something they are responsible for fixing anyway.

The only other option I can see is Rogers but I don't have, nor do I want cable, and they're still to pricey and restricted for my tastes.

So I'm stuck. What can I do to get out of this hell? PLEASE HELP!!!
