slow to no download fixed for now

For about the last week I've been having major problems with download/upload. Prior to this time I've been pretty happy overall with Altel. The upload was running between 10-20, download was about 100. This is has been most frustrating. After a couple of calls to tech support, they put in a trouble ticket on Sunday.

Earlier this morning (Monday) things were pretty much the same and then boom...everything was back to normal and even better than it had ever been before.

I'm just posting this to all of you who are having similar slow problems. I don't know if they upgraded some hardware or worked on my trouble ticket but I just wanted to tell you to not give up, they can fix it.

How to improve my connection speed?

I purchased a Huawei EC228 and the Alltel broadband service. At times the download speeds are tolerable, but for instance today, I'm downloading at about 68k.
I am in an urban area and have 100% signal strength. Is there anything I can do, or some tweaks I'm overlooking?

Thanks.

Looking at Alltel for wireless connection

I'm currently using satellite which sucks and just found out that I can possibly use Alltel. What card/router combination works best? I'm also interested in setting up an external outdoor antenna and amplifier. Any recommendations on antennas and amplifiers?

Thanks

[Troubleshooting] MBR 100 & UM 150

I recently bought the MBR 100 from MILLENIACOM and attached the UM 150 to convert my Alltel EVDO into WiFi. It worked quite well with good speeds for an hour or so and the internet cut-out. My laptop was still connected to the router with a good signal. To fix the problem i have to unplug the router and plug it back in and it will work for a little while and cut-out again. Anybody have any suggestions for fixes?? The UM150 has 3 led "bars" so I dont think its dropping a signal....

Thanks!

[General] Billing, cant get the same answer..

I have a Motorola Razor v9 with an 5.99 a month ALLTEL WEB plan. It says Altel web on the bill. I bought the Alltel Web data kit and tethered my phone and get EVDO speed 400Dwn ~ 60Up. What are my charges? Local store says it uses my anytime minutes only(free nights weekends DONT work with data calls, it uses minutes always). Phone call to 1 Alltel rep says I am charged by KB and no minutes are used. Another call to Alltel (diff rep) says uses minutes only which DOES included free nights weekends!). I can't get a true view of what I will be billed for. Does anyone know for sure? It is not a smartphone, just a Razor v9 with a USB tether. I dial the #777 numbe to connect.
Thanks,
Buc

Disconnects, Dormant, & Desperate

I am new to this, I have an LG Wave phone connected to my pc with a usb cord & Alltel Axcess for an ISP. I get disconnected all the time. It was working on & off, great sometimes, but rare. Most of the time, especially when I download anything, it goes dormant and I have to turn it off & reconnect for it to work at all. I was reading this forum for some ideas & was wondering before I spend a lot of money on an amp & whatever else I (might) need, if anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

[Equipment] Question about Alltel Router pricing and monthly dow

First of all, what is the best air card the choose as far as performance for the Alltel network and the Cyfre router? I went ahead and got the UTStarcom UM175 USB card since that seemed to be the one being mentioned by others here on the board. I could use the Express card option they have as well though so which would you say offers the best performance?

I also went with the Cyfre router/amplifier/antenna kit so that I could put the router by a big window to get the best signal and was wondering what the current pricing is that you guys are paying for it? I was looking through some posts here and it was suggested as being only $199.99 but I paid $249.99 just a minute ago. I asked her about it being $199.99 but maybe this is a newer model or something?

Lastly, does Alltel have any monthly download cap they have set in place like AT&t and Verizon Wireless do? With At&t whom I have now the cap is 5GB a month but they don't enforce it since I go over that almost every month. I know however Verizon does enforce theirs and are pretty crazy about it. I need to be able to go over at least 5GB a month and possibly upwards of 10GB-15GB a month at times since this is the only internet option I can get and once in a while I have to upload media to a website and I also spend a lot of time online for personal and business uses. Normally my usage right now is between 5-8GB a month. I just don't wanna get charged for going over or anything.

Thanks for any help with answering these questions guys!

Aircard/Wireless Router for IMT use

I decided to ask "the Experts" (you guys) for assistance.

I have been asked to purchase a aircard/router combo for use with a Incident Management Team for South Carolina. The Alltel folks will give me their spiel next week, BUT I know many of you have "real world" experience in this area

I gather the MRB-100 is a good router, but I'm sure of others or better ones available.

I am open to private emails on this subject OR right here on the forum. I cant promise when I'll know which combo I'll decide on right away but I'll come back when I do know and post it.

I am looking for a router with wifi and the ability to use external amplification on the cell side with a outdoor antenna. (we don't know where in the southeast we may be deployed) so we'll put a antenna on a ~40-50foot mast when needed for signal to the cell tower.

So I'm open to suggestions.

TIA Lloyd (aka - Mitch)
