If you reinstall Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a after Internet Explorer 6 is installed on your computer, some components will need to be re-registered.
To re-register components:•In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.•On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.•Click Add/Remove.•Click Repair Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
After the repair operation is complete, restart your computer.

Recommended by ClmsnTgrFan -- "Put Outlook/Outlook Express into the Restricted Zone. I think OE 6 defaults to this, but earlier versions didn't."

The following steps will remove any password set in the Internet Explorer Content Advisor and allow you to reset the program to its original state.•Click on Start and choose Run.•Type in RegEdit and select OK.•Now click on the little plus sign to the left of H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.•Continue to drill down, always clicking on the plus sign at the left of the named key, through Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version and Policies.•Now click on the Ratings folder.•In the right pane of the RegEdit window, you'll see an icon called Key. Click on it and press Delete.•Next, choose Registry and then Exit to exit RegEdit. You've just deleted your original Content Advisor password.•Restart the computer and run Internet Explorer again.•Choose View and then Internet Options (or Options for version 3.x)•Click on the Content tab and click on Disable. When asked for a password, don't enter anything; just click on OK.
This will disable Content Advisor because there's no longer a password.

Here is something that many people over look especially when they run a proxy like Proxomitron (Proxo), WebWasher, etc..... it will speed up surfing greatly. Here is how to turn it on.
Go to Start+Settings+Control Panel, then double click the Icon that says "Internet Options." Now click the tab that says "Advanced" scroll down until you see "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" make sure there is a check in the box and press ok. (Also make sure there is check in the box for Use HTTP 1.1 and press ok.) Press ok again to close Internet Options, and close any open IE windows. When you launch IE again you should see that surfing is much faster than it was before. (That is because page compression has been turned on for your proxy.)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones Or if you would like to save specific zone security settings, Export:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap
To restore, right-click the exported .REG file and select "Import" from the popup menu.

Please remember -- by increasing the connections that IE is allowed to make to a server, the more stress you are putting on the server in question.
So, be nice to the servers in server land, they need kindness too.

If this bothers you like a lot of people you can go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, (scroll down to Multimedia) and un-check Enable Automatic Image Resizing.

Service Pack 1 introduced attachment security functionality into OE6. Unfortunately, it prevents alot of the common file extensions from being accepted.
As long as you have an up-to-date Anti-Virus program, you should be able to work around this. From OE, go to Tools->Options and click on the Security tab. Then, uncheck the box "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." Press Apply and then OK.

If you want to send a quick e-mail, perform one of the following steps:•Type mailto: in the Run: box (found in the Start menu).•Type mailto: in the Address: box of Internet Explorer.•Create a shortcut (for starting a new mail message) by typing mailto: in the Location text box of the Create Shortcut wizard. You'll save yourself a few steps by not going into your default e-mail application and starting a new mail message.
This should work with all flavors of Windows!

•Open Internet Explorer•Click Tools and select Internet Options•Go to the Content tab and click the AutoComplete button•Click the Clear Forms and/or Clear Passwords buttons•When IE finishes clearing out your passwords and forms, click OK, and click OK again.

It is very useful to download the entire package of files needed to install Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, and related components. If you need to install it on more than one computer, it will save you the trouble of downloading the files every time you need to install it.

Download-Only Setup of Internet Explorer on Windows 2000 and Windows XP
Once you have downloaded the entire package, make sure the IESETUP5.EXE or IESETUP6.EXE is in the same directory as those files, and run that EXE file to install. It will recognize that all the files required have already been downloaded and it will not try to download them again.

The Links folder is considered a System file and Windows will replace it if you try to remove it. But you can hide it via the registry or by changing the file attributes -- Hide Links Folder on Favorites Menu (Courtesy of Winguides).

If you use Internet Explorer on several computers, you can easily share favorite items between computers by importing them. Also, if you use both Internet Explorer and Navigator, you can keep your favorites and bookmarks up-to-date with each other by importing them between programs.
•To import bookmarks or favorites, click the File menu, and then click Import and Export.•To export favorites to bookmarks or favorites on the same or another computer, click the File menu, and then click Import and Export.
Notes•Exported favorites are saved as a regular HTML file, so either Internet Explorer or Navigator can import them. You can export a selected folder in your Favorites list, or all of your favorites. •The exported favorites file is fairly small, so if you want to share the favorite items with other people, you can copy it to a floppy disk or folder on a network, or attach it to an e-mail message.

Note - this tweak will modify the default directory when "Save Target As" is used. This does not change the default directory when "Save Picture As" is selected.
Open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
Create a new String value, or modify the existing value, called "Download Directory" and set it to a valid directory path.
