Here's my simple free-to-use plugin to help render your color image in black & white or other monotone. I built it using Filtermeister so unfortunately it will not work with Macs. In Windows, all you need is a program that can use Photoshop plugins... just unzip my file and move the .8bf file to your plugins directory. You may need to restart the application for it to recognize the new plugin. Currently, it only works with 8-bit RGB images (with and without alpha channels).

Use it as you see fit. No attribution or compensation is required. Please, PM me with bug reports, though! Some problems are likely due to my poor programming skills.

Disclaimer: This software is provided as-is, with no warranty or guarantees of any sort. It's been tested on Corel's Photopaint only. I make no guarantees about how it will perform on your machine, or with your particular software.

[Editor's note: This link is the direct download of the plugin]
