said by stan999 See Profile :

The "Parent" mailbox size for the 3Mb customers is 25MB and a total of 10 e-mail accounts. The 9 additional e-mail accounts are 10MB. One of the 10 e-mail accounts needs to be marked as the "Parent" account to get the 25MB mailbox size on that account. However the maximum sending and receiving size for any one e-mail is still 10240KB.

All e-mail accounts for the 384Kb customers are 10MB and a total of 5 e-mail accounts.

"Actually it is 10240KB. However the max size of an attachment is only about 6.5-7MB due to MIME encoding overhead which adds around 30+% to the file size. For example an 8MB attachment would be over the 10MB mailbox size due to the extra MIME encoding.

You can test this by sending yourself say a 6MB file then close your mail client so you don't receive it. Then go to the WebMail and note the size of the mail. It will be larger then the 6MB.

Example: I just sent a 6MB zip file. WebMail shows the size as 8020KB due to the MIME encoding overhead.

The 5MB e-mail attachment size limit is a good rule of thumb so it doesn't go over the limit due to the encoding overhead."

    •POP3: pop.charter.net
    •SMTP: smtp.charter.net

Note: pop.chartermi.net still works for POP3, but smtp.charter.net should be used for all Charter customers SMTP (outgoing).

Charter's email servers do a reverse DNS lookup on the IP address connecting to it. If you're not using a Charter IP address and your host doesn't resolve to one of the hosts in our network it does not relay.

This allows Charter to keep their server with no auth, and prevents people from exploiting it from outside their network. This means if the internet cafes or other public access provider isn't using a Charter IP address, information does not get relayed and your mail gets denied. This is the reason they furnish the webmail option for checking email when your not directly connected to a Charter network.

No you cannot keep your email accounts after you cancel service, once you cancel service they are gone the second someone goes into the system and turns off your modem.

A lot of older accounts that are not associated with a modem may still be active.

However, as more and more areas get converted to the centralized provisioning system, this is going away. Also, there is a cleanup going, so eventually all these accouts will be cleaned up.

Eventually.. 2 years? I would not doubt it. Each area is responsible for its clean up,and quite honestly, that is not the top priorty.

A lot of spam mail is sent as a "blind copy" meaning that your address doesn't show in the "TO" field. The good thing about this is that with almost any email client (and with Charter webmail interface) filters can be set in place to discard any message not addressed to you. (this would cause problems with certain mailing lists unless filters for their inclusion were placed first in processing order)
