This FAQ is Under Construction and is NOT for BellSouth FastAccess at this time. Do Not Follow the Instructions Below. If you have a new account and have not registered or been provided a username and password, please click here.
After you have created your username and password you can enter the information into your modem. If you have a Motorola 2210 or Westell 6100 you should open a browser session and enter "192.168.1.254" in the address field. Enter your BellSouth Username followed by "@bellsouth.net" in the User ID field. Enter your BellSouth Password in the Password field. Re-enter your BellSouth Password in the Confirm Password field. Click on Next. Update the Auto Calender Update Configuration as desired and click Next. The modem will try to initiate a session and then return to the main menu. If you get a connection error message make sure your username and password are correct and click Connect again.

All BellSouth virtual circuits use a VPI/VCI of 8/35 respectively. If you have a modem that was not supplied by BellSouth you must make sure your VPI/VCI is correct or you will not be able to authenticate.
Important Note: Not having the correct VPI/VCI on a modem will not prevent a modem from synching.

The standard login format is "username@bellsouth.net". All FacstAccess customers are required to use this format. Some versions of the BellSouth specific Westell 2100/2200/6100s automatically insert the "@bellsouth.net" after the username, however it will not cause any problem if you type it in manually.
If you are still unable to log in with this format, contact Tech Support.

WindowsXP has a built in PPPoE Connection Client. This eliminates the needs to load a third party client (Enternet300, RAS, etc) on to your computer. Use the following steps to configure a PPPoE connection using the native Windows XP client: • Go to Start >Control Panel >Network and Internet Connections. • Select Network Connections under the Pick a Control Panel icon. • Click Create a new connection under Network tasks. • Enter your area code in the location information (if asked), and click OK twice. • Click Next when the "Welcome to the new connection wizard" window displays. • Select Connect to the Internet and click Next. • Select Set up my connection manually and click Next. • Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password and click Next. • Type "FastAccess DSL” for the ISP name, and click Next. • Enter your BellSouth username followed by "@bellsouth.net" and password. Confirm your password, and click Next. • Click Add shortcut to this connection to my desktop and the FastAccess DSL icon will be added to your desktop. Click Finish. • Click the FastAccess DSL icon to begin surfing.

Obtain the following information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP): •Username and Password. •Primary and Secondary Domain Name Server (DNS) Addresses. Note:Your ISP may not require you to manually enter a DNS address. To access your BellSouth DNS information online go here: »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How can I find the DNS server addresses for my city?.
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Choose Built-in Ethernet from Show pop-up menu ("Configure" menu prior to Mac OS X 10.1).
Click the PPPoE tab.
Select the check box for "Connect using PPPoE".
Type your user name in the Account Name field. Note: You must use the "username@bellsouth.net" format.
Type your password in the Password field. If you want all users of this computer to use the same connection method, then select the check box for Save Password. Note: If you want to have the computer automatically connect when you start a TCP/IP application (Web browser, email) then click PPPoE Options and check the Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications option.
Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose either PPP or Manually from the Configure pop-up menu, as instructed by your Internet service provider. Note: Unless you have a Static IP, all FastAccess customers should select "PPP". Manually would only be used if your ISP gave you a static IP address. The static IP address would then be entered in the IP address field.
Type the Domain Name Server addresses in the corresponding field (if required). Make sure you type "bellsouth.net",(in lower case) in the Search Domain field.
Click Apply Now.
Restart machine.

The built-in firewall has been a source of many unexplained connectivity and browsing issues. Many users prefer to disable it and use one of the more popular, stable firewalls like Norton or McAfee. Note: The firewall feature and configuration screen is not available if your network adapters are set to bridged mode.
Click on the Start button, click on the Settings button, then Network Connections and highlight the Local Area Network or network device entry you wish to change the firewall settings. Right click on the Local Area Network or network device then select Properties.

Select the Advanced Tab and check or uncheck the box depending on your preference. Click OK.

Background Information: Normally, you will unable to access the Westell modem interface if you use it in conjunction with another router. The reason is that the Westell modem interface address is 192.168.1.254 which is a local IP. By default, most routers do not have the capability to route a local IP out of their WAN port (where your Westell is connected). Additionally, they may be on completely different subnets.
Alternative Configurations: There are several alternatives around this problem. Two common methods are shown below. 1. Extra Equipment Configuration This method requires extra equipment (a second NIC and a hub) and major configuration changes. Click here for more information.
2. Utilize the router as a switch configuration This method requires you to utilize the router as a simple switch and use the Westell's PPPoE and DHCP functions. Simply disable the DHCP and PPP client on the router and plug the ethernet cable from the Westell into one of the switch ports instead of the WAN/Upload port (as shown below).
