OpenNap is a second protocol that can be used in conjunction with WinMX. OpenNap is a totally seperate network from WinMX with different rules, but works very similar. All OpenNap servers are run by private people on their own machines.

By adding a list of OpenNap servers to WinMX, you can greatly increase the number of hits when you do searches. There are usually close to 200 servers online at any given time, with thousands of people logged on to each server.
