And the bad news is .. for SOME areas of the AT&T broadband network .. AT&T locks its cable modems via hardware ethernet address to whatever they are plugged into when first installed .. so you cannot switch back and forth between PC and laptop or PC and PS2 without paying them more money and calling them.. or faking the ethernet hardware address. (something you cannot do with the PS2 adapter).

You can, however, get a home router such as a linksys or Zyxel, lock to that by calling AT&T support, then sprout your network (PC, PS2 etc) off of the router.

If your area of AT&T broadband allows you to change devices without issue, then using the "automatically detect" setting should work fine. Power cycle your cable modem while it is connected to the PS2, if you have any problems with this.

You do NOT need to enter a username and password into the PS2 in order to get online.
