To test your residential class line (10Mbps/10Mbps), you can use Speakeasy.net's Points of Presence (POP) tests. They work reliably up to 8Mbit, but should report your speed accurately enough.

For business class line (100Mbps/100Mbps), you should find a fast FTP server with a big (400+ MB) file. Let the MB/s rate settle and multiply by 8.192 to get your speed in Mbps.

Example:
3.01MB/s × 8.192 = 24.65Mbps
