You may not be able to automatically obtain an IP address from your ISP if the various interfaces between the technologies in your network lose sync. Depending on the issue, this may be an intermittent problem, or it may be a constant problem.
To determine if this issue is happening to your router, you must check the log and look for error messages concerning DHCP Discover or DHCP Renew requests that "time out" (go unanswered).
