Currently the answer is no. There's been some recent discussion about this in the newsgroups, but currently there is no such option. said by GMail Support: While Gmail doesn't currently support this functionality, we are testing many new features to improve the Gmail service. Not to say that this won't be an option in the future, the Google folks are adding new features more regularly now.
