I own a technology company in the Houston Galleria, and I need reliable broadband.
Ordered the Surfer Plus DSL 3000 down, 512 up. I get a steady 25XX up speed and 44X down, which is as good as it gets without having your own private leased line and paying thru the nose for it.
I'm enjoying piece of mind whenever I can. Thank you Oplink.

Replaced a faster SBC Yahoo 6000/608 with a oplink.net 3000/512. The speed test comparision is SBC 4200/384 to oplink.net 2500/480 (average of test), and the cost now (before renewal offer) is about 1/5 of what I was paying. (Thats 20% of the cost, not 20% less). The current ATT Yahoo renewal offer is about twice what i am paying for oplink.net. Cost is $24.95 (6 months) then $34.95 (6 months).

I've been using Oplink.net for about 3 years now. From the day I first ordered their service to the multiple times I've had to move, these guys have continually impressed me with the level of service they provide. They don't treat you like an idiot unlike most other companies will, and actually give you a ton of useful information and advice. There have been several times when I was moving to a new apartment and would have made the wrong move as far as ordering phone transfer was concerned, but for the advice they gave me (like don't ask for the same phone number, that makes the DSL transfer twice as long!). They're very personable whether you're talking to them on phone or instant messenger and don't withhold info from you. Plus they make an effort to remain competitive by upgrading services/reducing prices when necessary.
If for no other reason, get Oplink DSL because it has no PPPoE. I've been an SBC customer before, and the difference is like night and day. Faster, by far more reliable and just all around better. I can't even remember the last time I had an outage. It's been that good.
Yeah, Oplink is worth all this praise and then some. I've been with them long enough, I know.

okay, i switched to them from my old ISP because I wanted dsl. Now, price isn't all the most important thing, quality is. I spent many a month on here lurking and reading reviews. So yes, I have read the whole scottbell thing, and, compared it to what everyone else said. Bottom line, they rule! I called and spoke with Dan on Friday afternoon. He said they would should have me up by thursday or friday next week. Tuesday, UPS knocks on my door with the modem, etc. I figure what the hell, and connect it, not expecting it to work. Low and behold, it works! Not only that, it's REALLY REALLY quick. I got 4 static ips, which is enough since I only have 3 computers. As far as the whole bandwidth capping fiasco I read about in the scottbell review; here's how it looks from where I sit. I got my new comptuer this past thursday. Since that time I've had to download umpteen million Windows patches/fixes, along with patches for all my other software. On top of that, I decided to d/l the ISO's for redhat & debian. I haven't heard a peep from, nor has my connection speed been downgraded. If something happens though, I'll be sure to update this. Oh, one last thing. The only snag in the whole thing was that they re-assigned me to a different block of ip's 2 days after I got it. Not a big deal though.
--- 3/8/04 UPDATE ---
I still think they're the best ISP in Houston. Lately, I've been addicted to DesertCombat. For those that don't know, DC is a pretty bandwidth intensive game. A 32 person server will chew up ~5-7 Mbp/s. I can comfortably run a 10 person server, while my friends can be browsing the web in the other room. My average speeds are ~1100 - 1300 Kbp/s down and around 340 - 350 Kbp/s. So far, only scheduled maintenance has kept it down (upgrading to bigger pipeline, moving mail servers, etc) and they let me know well ahead of time. Oh, one more bit, they do have cheaper plans, but those didn't fit my needs.
---- 4/27/05 UPDATE ---
I'm moving to a new apt. complex in June & I'm hopeful they'll be able to still service me. Still VERY satisfied with their service. I reccommend it to all the people in my office since I seem to be the 'tech guy'. Nobody that's actually gone with them has said they had a bad experience & my friend Marc was actually pissed that he had to get roadrunner b/c of their crappy service...will post an update after I've settled in my new place.
--- 9/28/05 UPDATE ---
Finally moved to my new place 2 months ago. I'm now on 8500 ft from the RT. We have roadrunner in the community room. I had to use that the 1st week since I had a little snag when I first moved into my new apt. but they were absolutely awesome in helping me get it fixed. SBC didn't move my line after I moved... >:| Roadrunner speeds (while faster at night) were never constant & neither was latency (20ms - 130ms).
Average latency w/ oplink while playing BF2 is about 30-40 ms. Average d/l speeds are 300-350 KB/s. Upload speeds I wish were a little quicker (about 50 KB/s) but I'm understand most people could care less about their upload speed. I'm editing a BF2 demo with a friend in Indiana, so we toss the 150MB video back & forth after each edit. If anyone wants a *local* ISP that actually wants your business, go with them.
Oh yeah, I got a few of my friends/relatives to sign up w/ them & got a $20 credit for each one.
--- 3/10/06 UPDATE ---
It'd been awhile since I did any ISP comparisons so I decided to do a little research since I thought I was paying too much ($99/mo for my static ips, 3Mbps down/512kbps up). The Cable/Inet/VoIP bundle for $99 from Time Warner was really tempting since I was paying about $35/mo for POTS, $89/mo for inet access & $60/mo for cable. I read some recent reviews around town, figured out the price after the 6mo promotion, and went down to my neighbor's apt. to see how their RR service was. I'll be honest, the d/l speed had me drooling, but the speeds fluctuated too wildly for my taste. The latency spikes I saw while gaming sucked too. The ping times were alright later in the night though. Looking through some of the reviews about RR in Houston, I came across a few horror stories. Besides the usual connectivity/latency/speed issues in some of the reviews, there were some cust. service issues that didn't exactly leave the best impression. So, I resolved to stick with Oplink, but change my plan.
I emailed Ryan @ oplink on the 2/24 to ask switching to another (less expensive) plan. The plan I asked about wasn't available since I'm too far from RT. I was disappointed by that, but Ryan then said he'd cut me a custom deal where I could keep my static IPs & same speed for $54.95!! Now THAT was a surprise. I told him to sign me up & electronically signed a 12/mo contract (no big deal, they've proven to me they're worth keeping). Got my invoice for March & the new pricing was there!!

For 19.99 a month the first 6 months and 29.99/month the second 6 months for an average of 24.99 the whole yr which is less than I paid for my last isp provider. I haven't had any service interuption or any problems getting threw to a customer service rep., who are quite knowledgable and friendly by the way. I recommend 100%.

I ordered the Standard Plus package (3M down, 512up) with Oplink, and from the time I ordered to the time I go the equipment in the mail was 4 days. I had DSL through SBC before and I spent more time on the phone with them about why my internet was down then I ever spent online. But with Oplink i have no hassles whatsoever. I've even had to make a phone call or two at 3am and Ryan fixed it for me in no time. I've rarely had any down time since i've been with them for a year now. I'm very happy with my service and I recommend them to everyone that asks me about my internet. I only wish Oplink was in Austin as well so i could use them instead of horrible and expensive ISP in my dorm.

I have used Oplink for over a year. They service my home as well as my business. Whenever I have an issue, Ryan is always there to help - it is usually something on my end. We switched from Roadrunner because Oplink is faster which is extremely important for my son (gamer). I would highly recommend them to everyone.

I ordered the surfer plus package for 79.95 with a contract. The plan is 3000 down / 512 up with six static IP addresses and no PPPoE. Modem came in the mail on time and everything worked on time. At first the service was not as fast as described and the modem was cutting out so I called Oplink and they let me come in for a free exchange. The second modem works perfectly and I am very pleased. The service is very consistant and has only been down once since I've had it. (The problem with the service was not Oplinks fault and they offered free dial up until the problem could be corrected). I also had one IP conflict months ago and to compensate for the problem Oplink increased my IP addresses to eight for free. I have recommended Oplink to my friend and he is equally as pleased therefore I recommend Oplink to anyone.
Update 02/09/2006: I have renewed my term with Oplink and I am still 100% satisfied. I reccomend this DSL service to everyone who asks me about my internet provider. When I frist started my service with oplink over a year ago, I remember calling twice at 2-3am and I got help. Let me tell you, these people have answers, its not like calling India! They know what there doing!
I now have 6mb down and 768kb/s up and on their speedtest: »www.oplink.net/speedtest/ I download the 20mb file at 630kb/s.
I am still satisfied and Oplink is highly recommended.

ordered Oplink after speaking with Dan (sysadmin) and he was hesitant to want to accept me as a customer because at my previous house I was not satisfied with the transfer rates I had also tried to expedite the order by talking to SBC in which case they got upset about. Dan suggested a number of DSL providers I needed 6mbit down and wanted low latency and hated the corporate Time Warner Roadrunner other than its performance when Im not dealing with a technical issue due to their fiddling with my network. I received the Modem, Ethernet cable, and power supply and filters in a timely fashion. I had hooked everything up so that I would know when SBC turned on the DSL line. When I first spoke to Dan over the phone he explicitly told me that I qualified for 6mbit down and 608 up. Dan set me up for 6mbit down and 768 up which was his mistake which would have cost me an extra week of downtime because I only qualified for 6mbit / 608 just like Dan told me. The service was so poor at ONLY 7900 FT from a remote terminal that wireless computers on my home network were unable to receive connectivity. I was also told by Ryan (admin) that I had problems last time I ordered 6mbit so if I cancelled I would not be able to order again which is irrelevant because I moved in a brand new house in a brand new neighborhood far away from the one I originally had. There may be a few people behind the curtains but the only two live people there to speak with were Dan and Ryan. They claim 24 hour support however I could never reach a live human being after hours. The quality of the treatment I received this round of Oplink service was very poor compared to my initial sign up with Oplink until they turned sour. If you want low latency and the price is right I recommend SBC online dsl specials where the prices are cheaper, for same - QUALIFED service and you actually get to talk to people who care and know what they are talking about. status -- cancelled dsl order on notification of it taking another week to get Dans order right.
