My name is Tim.
In terms of pre connection, they were great. I was even able to setup the email account before the connection date of 4\8. They also sent me the TCP\IP settings.
I am switching from Bell Atlantic. Obviously, you know why... I am using the external Westell modem.
I am using the cheapest thing they have, residential 640\128 which is $50, that nickel means nothing.
As in the bottom line, I am not even using them. I emailed them 3 times this week, since 4\8 and have not gotten a single response. I needed help with the TCP\IP settings, specifically, DNS, and newsgroup setup (user name). I cannot phone due to school, I'm in college. I, therefore, cannot comment on the speed.
The technical support sucks from my perspective. But that's just because I've been ignored

I've ordered dsl from acecape around march 21, when Bellatlantic failed to provide me with the service. within a week I was given the connection date of 4/5 roughly 2 weeks from the date I called them. I subscribed for the 640k/90k package at $49, (same as bellatlantic). I actually recieved a call two days before I was to go live from Bellatlantic, monday, 4/3, and they left a message saying they were going to work on the line the next day, 4/4. I was shocked BA called, as when I subscribed to their infospeed dsl, their tech support never returned calls. I was a bit nervous, when the worker dispatched from BA told me the work was not done on my line. I called acecape, and they assured me I would go live on 4/5. I did not go live on 4/5, but actually on friday 4/7. This was partially my fault. I wanted to use the speedstream modem I purchased from BA, but after talking to the tech support at acedsl, they mentioned that BA's drivers weren't so great so, I decided to buy the zyxel 641 router for $299, looking back now, I could have bought a cheaper router at buy.com, or other online stores. I picked up the router on friday, I met JCham, who also came to pick-up his router. By friday evening I was up and running, the worker at acecape, (I forgot to ask him his name) was very helpful, and showed us how to setup the zyxel router, and took the time to configure the router for us. Since friday, I have not had any down time, I am not complaining that I went live two days after the scheduled date, as BA had a hand in that. I have noticed that the usenets are slow. I have not been able to dowload consistently, faster that 18.2 kb, and for some reason it is only in the afternoons, usually after 4 or 5pm. Overall pre-sales infromation is a 5, install co-ordination is a 4, connection reliability is a 5, mail, DNS, news, etc: 4, and value for money is a 4, only because I had to buy the zyxel, will a great device, I could have bought a cheaper router, such as the Linksys, broad band router, which is about half the price. I am very happy with the service so far, but I still have not recieved an e-mail account, which is not such a big deal, as I have serveral free e-mail accounts.

Well since I know that Acescape employees and such monitor this board I have some questions. I would like to sign up for this service but unlike many others I am NOT switching from Bell Atlantic so I do not have any equipment. Acescape is no longer selling modems so I do not know exactly what to do. The 3com modem that Bell Atlantic uses sells for $230 in places like Staples or Comp USA and I am not spending that much for a modem. Can anyone tell me which modem I can buy at a reasonable price? On pricewatch.com a vendor is selling a Cisco PCI ADSL for $79 which is a great price. Only thing is that they say its model number 605 which is not listed on the Cisco website. The other I see is model # 1000ADSL made by Alcatel which is an external modem (USB I guess?) Anyone know if I can use these models? Man I wish Acescape would sell or provide a modem, as it is hard to find any to buy on my own. Most stores to not sell any or they only sell the $230 3com model. I could really use some advice from people in the know.
Thanks
Joe

Hi, like many others here I switched to Acecape from Bell Atlantic. I was tired of the frequent downtimes and non existent technical support. I placed an order to switch and I did not hear anything. After a few weeks I called to see what was the status of my order. They told me I was ready to go(they never contacted me to tell me). I was psyched when I entered the ip info and everything was up and running. Everything seemed fine for a few days but then I noticed that I couldn't use the internet for hours on seperate days. This was not a huge problem but now I am in my 5th day of downtime which is even longer than I ever expereinced with bell. When I called the company I was told that a trouble ticket was issued and that I should call back the next day. When I called they did not have anything useful to say other than call back later. Since then I have been unable to reach them as no one seems to work their on weekends and friday. Unfortunately switching to Acecape does not take care of problems which are associated with the infospeed service..

Hello. I have decided to write a review -- now that it's been a couple of months that I've been with Acecape. To begin, my saga with DSL service started around July 1999. I've been calling BA offices a fiew times a week just to get the same answer -- not yet available. Around November I found Acecape's website on DSL Reports, and gave them a call. They told me that BA is working on setting up all of the COs in Brooklyn and that I should be setup by January. They were correct. When I filled out an application on acecape's site, they added me to their customer notification list and in January I got an email from them that DSL was indeed available. I couldn't believe it, so I went on their website, checked availability, and to be certain called them. They did tell me that I could place my order right away and I would have it within 10 business days.
Well, hesitate I did not. I placed my order with them on January 26th. They called me back with an install date by Feb. 2nd. They explained everything I needed to know and helped me pick out a DSL router. Both Gene and Arkady were exteremely knowledgable in equipment as well as OS configuration. My actual turn-on date was Feb 4th, but that was something that BA had to do with.
To sum it all up, I already referred 2 people to Acecape (both of them signed up). If you don't mind 90k uplinks, Acecape is deffinately the one to go with. My current setup is 1600/90 -- which is in reality 1504Kbps down and 96Kbps up. My transfer rates are average of 120-140KBytes down and 9-11Kbytes up.
I would rate them the best provider in NYC. These guys know what they're doing.
-Eugene

After Speakeasy/Covad failed miserably to get me connected (waiting over two and a half months) I contacted Acescape. I originally contacted Acescape back in early December, but I did not sign up b/c they had a six month commitment and I wasn't sure if I was still going to be living in my apartment in six months, whereas Speakeasy did not have a "contract". I was pleasantly suprised when I found out that their policies have changed, no more contract at all. It's pay as you go.
From the day I placed the order with Acescape (spoke with Arkady Goldstein) until the day I was turned on, it took about three weeks - Arkady said BA had to do a "manual loop qualification", which caused a two week delay - no big deal.
I ordered the ZyXel external router - Gene mentioned that they had just begun to use these routers. The router was a little pricey $299, but let me tell you, it works like a charm. ZyXel is a Taiwanese company and they have been manufacturing networking/telecommunications equipment for a while now and they have a pretty good rep. The ZyXel also acts as a firewall (I think - no flames please!)
I was turned on on 2/28/00 and would have been connected to the net if not for my own stupidity. I somehow managed to screw up the initial settings in the ZyXel (after the router was preconfigured by Gene). Thank God I was dealing with Gene and Arkady, because I never would have been able to immediately get the correct answers if I was dealing with any other ISP/dsl provider - especially if it was BA!! Kudos to the two of them.
So far, connectivity has been great, except the news server, which sometimes would disconnect me from the server every once in a while - it happens both during and after downloading bodies, or an operation would time out, and d/l speeds have been erratic at different times of the day. All in all, I am amazed at the speed of dsl, and can not see myself ever going back to dialup.
In sum, if you're thinking of signing up with them, don't hesitate; run, don't walk to the nearest phone and give these guys a ring. You won't be disappointed.

I ordered DSL service from Acecape for a number of reasons. First, my old ISP didn't seem to know what they were talking about, and said it might be several weeks before someone could call me back and arrange service activation. Second, there were only positive reviews of the service here on dslreports. Oh, and their pricing is pretty competitive.
Details: 640/90, static IP, no contract, promised connection in about a week. I bought the Next Level external modem for $299.
The service originally went on within a week of my order. However, it took a few weeks before I could use my new DSL connection. There are a couple reasons for this, some of which were my fault (including going on vacation for a week while the service was being configured). We also thought there might be a problem with the modem, but it turned out to be a faulty cable (which they replaced, along with lending me an extra power supply).
Throughout the process of setting up my DSL connection, the folks at Acecape did a great job. They were quick, knowledgeable, and responsive. They handled all of the necessary interaction with Bell Atlantic, and made sure I got service even when BA said the couldn't do it. What more can you ask for? Highly recommended.

I had been anticipating signing up for DSL service for nearly two years as BA touted their InfoSpeed service at every computer show in the city. After endless months checking the BA availability site for my house in Brooklyn Heights, I finally got fed up when the always elusive "available next month" message switched to "available in the near future". Checking the DSLREPORTS availability listing, I came across ACECAPE offering the same service (640kb D/L) for the same price ($49.95+$5 for a second static IP address).
A call to Acecape confirmed that service was available, and I was promised service could be installed in 10 days, that that both my Mac and wife's PC could be connected I filled out the on-line application and...that was it! No home visits to schedule and miss, no follow-up phone calls; two weeks later (the slight delay was caused by Acecape not being able to get DSL modems in stock) UPS delivered a box with the modem, microfilters and setup instructions. I connected the modem to my Ethernet port, plugged it in, reset my TCP software to the new settings and it worked!
Connection speeds are now about 12 times faster than with my 56k modem. There have been only two intermittent service interruptions, and in one case, Acecape's tech people (who as far as I can tell are also their sales and management people) actually called me at home to let me know when service was restored. other than that, everything has worked flawlessly.
The only service drawback is the setup cost ($99 plus $299 for the DSL modem -- Bell Atlantic has been eating these costs recently), and the fact that the setup instructions did not make it clear that a formal request for an email address needed to be received before it was setup, so replies to my message about my new DSL provider got bounced back. Other than that, I couldn't be happier.

Well, I've been with Acecape for going on a month now and I figured that enough time had gone by so that I could write a full review. In summary, Acecape is great.
My order went through flawlessly within 10 days of my initial request (standard 640/90 package). The DSL modem I used is a Next Level Communications internal ADSL modem. My ping times average 24ms to the Gateway (my cousin, also on Acecape, uses the Efficient 3060 and his ping times are 35ms for comparison). When they intially had a hard time getting DSL modems, they shipped mine overnight.
I have not experienced any downtime as of yet. Not once. I do stay in touch with Gene and Arkady to find out what is going on in general and to get info for friends that I refer. They are professional, polite and VERY prompt in returning calls when they are busy. I am genuinely impressed with both guys.
The static IP, which is free with their service (unlike the dynamic IP given by BA) was one of the particular reasons I went with Acecape. Their newsserver is a direct feed to Supernews and it is throttled at 128kbps. I would prefer no throttle, but Gene has informed me that they are considering switching to their own news server which would have no bandwidth throttle. But in any event, the newsgroups are complete (34,377 as of 2/27/00) and retention times are excellent. The e-mail servers are excellent (I've heard MANY complaints about BA e-mail servers).
As I said, not a complaint yet. These guys are working their asses off and the quality of the service reflects that hard work.

I have been with the same ISP for a while now. They have always had a good customer service team. I called them and asked if they were offering DSL service. They said they do not have it, nor do they plan to ever get it. While I would not think of using any other company for a dial-up connection, I was left with no choice for DSL.
I was reading the message board of a car club I belong to. The subjct was DSL. One of the members posted a link to Acescape and dslreports.com. I figured I would check it out.
I spoke with Gene at Acescape. He answered every question I had. He was helpful, but not pushy. He explained the "No Contract" deal at Acescape. I liked not having to sign a commitment with them. This allows me to stay with Acescape because I WANT to, because I like the service, not because I signed something.
I got my DSL modem from Acescape, installed it myself, and called Acescape for some configuration help. I was set. Well... almost. All I needed was for Hell Atlantic to find my line. After a frustrating week of calls back and forth, Gene and Arkady got Hell Atlantic to get me set up. In all that time, the guys at Acescape were friendly and helpful every time I spoke with them. They even apologized for the delay of start up, even though it was not their fault. They understand the meaning of the term "Customer Service"
I am setup now and having a great time with it. Download speeds are unbelievable.
If you want a great DSL provider, choose Acescape. You won't be disappointed!
