I am less than 6000 feet from the CO and I was promised AT LEAST 500K speeds....I am getting around 200K. Their Tech Support is clueless and they said I would need to upgrade to the business account for better speeds. I was promised by Russ Williams and Mark Drake that my issue would be resolved but I never heard back from either. I have reported this company to the BBB! DO NOT MAKE A COMMITMENT TO THIS COMPANY....THEY ARE OVERPRICED!

I had a little delay in getting my IP information, but other then that, they've been excellent with responses from both the sales and technician. I think the secret is to contact them via email if at all possible.

I think the overall offering by A+Net is by far the best out there.

Pompano Beach,Broward,FL
$110 per month (12 month contract)
about 22 days
BellSouth
CLEC party: Covad
"They actually called! They actually wanted my business!"
"Apparently only 2 DSL techies on staff. (This could be a good thing if service is so smooth that they don't need bunch...)"
"I don't think that I really had a viable alternative to going with Aplus.net."
Pre Sales information:

Tech Support:

    Re: Installation, etc.

Above charges plus $584 set up fee, plus $5 check handling fee.

Days to success calculated from Thursday, April 05, 2001 3:27 PM (cut and pasted from email confirmation of registraion - I assume that's when they recieved the check...) to the day Covad finished putting in the router: 4/27/2001 .... in the afternoon... (didn't make a note, sorry).

They had said it would be installed within 60 days, so 22 days is really good. Promised speed is supposed to be 144Kbps.

    »www.cnet.com/internetservices/g/···001.html says 122.7 Kbs.

»www.jefftech.net/library310.html says 117600 bits per second

    »www.aitsoft.com/speedtest/speedtest50.asp says 121.8 kbps

    »ddi.digital.net/~sjoiner/SpeedTest.htm says 110.9 K bits per second

Is this good? I will try dlsreports.com's speed test later on. (It is 6:15 PM now, if that means anything to you re: general internet traffic.)

Router provided is a Netopia "R3100-T for Covad" model, which includes a hub & firewall, and can connect up to 8 computers. I was informed that they would subtract the price of the router from the setup charge if I had my own router, or wanted to purchase one from another source. (I was too exhausted to even contimplate studying all of the available routers & submitting a comparison to my boss to review, discuss, etc.... I also assume that the unit they provide should be supported by them, should something go wrong.)

The Covad technician (his initials are D.E. ...sorry I'm not allowed to identify you...) was very helpful and informative. He had to make a second trip because it looked like BellSouth had only brought the wire to the telephone closet for the floor, and not all the way to our office. My boss was livid about the 2nd visit & possibility of additional charges, but D.E. explained the situation for him clearly, and all was OK. The fellow he brought with him on the second visit found the connection somewhere in the ceiling, set up the router and tested it to make sure it was working within 30 minutes, so there were no extra charges for the 2nd visit.

Also: I like the fact that they have a system status log: »www.aplus.net/syslog.html available, so that I can tell what's going on. I've read a number of posts about subscribers having no idea & not being able to find out what's up with their provider and it must be a scary experience for people who make their living on the web.

    ==========================

Wierdness Previous to the date of confirmation above (April 5):

This part is not really a review of Aplus.net, but of how hard it was to just get service in this area. I did various searches and called tons of isp's, checked for availablity online wherever possible, etc. starting February 20th. Aplus.net was the first company to call me - this call was triggered by one check for service availability in my area I'd done online looking for a Covad connection. Some other companies have called me only after we had already signed up with Aplus.net. (For instance, I got a call this morning from Sprint regarding my inquiry in March.)

I believe there is a huge opportunity for someone who wants to make a few bucks and knows a thing or two about DSL. Maybe dslreports.com can fill this gap.... unfortunately I didn't find this site until after I'd signed up with Aplus.net, and made the mistake of thinking that I was getting something on an existing line that didn't need additional hardware like a networking card.... (whine... whine...) But seriously folks... I went to a lot of sites that provided comparisons of broadband providers, like lowermybills.com, who listed at least one residential provider as a business provider - which has since been fixed - and had a lot of trouble trying to get someone to take my money. Along the way I picked up some misinformation and got a little confused. Fortunately I've found this site and will return often.

    My apologies re: length.

    Tamie

    :)

I've been using Aplus.net DSL since November 2000, and have no complaints. Isn't that an amazing statement? I think so. Great, personal, customer and tech support - quick, responsive, honest and my salesperson Jeremy Pritchett is the best. Anytime I had a question or wanted to check the status of the line, he was there for me. The line is never down - which is so important to me, since I use the service for business all day long. Line speeds have remained consistent and I continue to get 100% of the speed advertised. Tech support has been wonderful helping me set up a web and email server. There's a reason why Aplus.net gets great reviews here at DSLR. For those of you who can't afford an erratic connection and inept tech support look no further...

I've had a pretty good experience with this company. Especially after having read the horror stories some of the other companies seem to be delivering. A+net had me running in 3 weeks. I received a lot of good information from Brian and one of their other employees (didn't get his name) the two times I called. Everything went pretty much as they told me it would. Actually they got it to me earlier than they said they would. Pretty Good!

"The salesman has been very responsive and helpfull"
"I'm concerned by seeing so many bad reviews regarding support and service speed"
"I was all set to sign up with A+Net until I checked the reviews on dslreports"
Pre Sales information:

Personaly I've got nothing but good things to say about my salesperson Brian Wilson. He's been informed and the only holdup in the whole process has been me. I was all set to sign up until I saw so many negetive reviews about the service at A+Net and also the reliability of the network in the NorthEast. I just want to get any input on what the current state of satisfaction with A+Net is from anyone using them in PA,NJ,DE,NY or CT as i have to make a decision soon and I don't want to sign up with A+Net and find that the service and support are unreliable. Have they made any improvements in their product that now makes them a reliable ISP ?

    Thanks !

After his post, I contacted Mark to attempt to settle my account. After some faxing back and forth, I finally got my credit from A Plus net. While it did take over 6 months to reach someone, Mark was extremely apologetic, polite and professional. Perhaps they are improving. It sure seemed like Mark was doing his best.

My thanks to him for settling this for me

I signed up for dsl service and a free web site. After payment I found out the free web site includes banner ads. I complained to them about there being no mention of banner ads in their advertising and was told it was legal since they did not promise a free web site without banner ads. I was told to expect legal action if I defame them in complaints.

Currently the Better Business Bureau is assisting me in my complaint. If you have a problem with A+NET contact them for assistance. www.bbb.com They have been very helpful and keep complaints on file for 3 years to help warn other consumers of problems with businesses.

Stay away from A+NET! I have told everyone I know to do so as well as visitors to my website:

Value for money:

I am so aggravated by this company! I am telling everyone I can think of to
stay as far away from A+ net as possible.

I originally signed up at A+ net for a nationwide dial up account. They
were a tremendous bear, as they have different zones across the country
where you can and cannot get access. Every time I traveled, I had to call
them up, and leave a message about what zone I was traveling to. Lo and
behold, upon arriving at my destination, I had no access. I would be placed
on hold for upwards of an hour, only to tell a technician that I was no
longer in my zone. Every single time, they told me they were having
problems, or that it would take three business days to give me access and I
should have called earlier. They are unreliable, unhelpful and
unprofessional. As a traveling technician I could not rely one bit on my
    access.

I finally had enough in June of this past year, and decided to cancel my
account. In July, I was billed. I disputed the charge, which I backed down
on. I again attempted to cancel my account- no luck. I was billed through
    July, August and September.

I finally had to close my credit card to stop getting billed! Only then did
they respond with late charges, fees, etc. When I finally got a manager on
the phone, she apologized profusely (Stephanie) and assured me that she
would do everything in her power to credit me back to July and issue a
check. They still owe me for 4 months of access at 29.99 a month.

Guess what? No luck. It is now February, and I still haven't heard a
thing. I have called, emailed, left messages, been hung up on- you name it!
Every time I call and ask for Stephanie, they either transfer me around for
an hour, or hang up on me. I am so furious I can't even breathe! I receive
constant personal guarantees that I will get a phone call- it NEVER happens.

A+ Net has no customer service, no help desk, and is lacking any shred of
    decency or moral fabric.

Please forward my comments on to whomever you like, especially your readers.
I truly hope they go bankrupt. They certainly deserve it.

    Sincerely,

    An extreemly aggravated user.

I ordered telespeed 192/192. After I submitted the order and returned my required forms it was almost six weeks later when they contacted me to inform me that 192/192 was not available to me and that I could downgrade to 144/144 IDSL for the same price. I just had to resend the required forms with the new speed. After doing this, Two months passed before any more contact from them. I finally received an email from Covad informing me of my install date and time. I tried to contact the tech support department but could never get through. I just wanted to know if there was any thing I needed to do to assist with install but they were non responsive. They have the worst customer service and will never chose them or recommend them to anyone.
