Velocity Networks, vel.net is a spam support service. Despite being notified both by email and by telephone about 4 problems hosts, the spam continues to be sent from vel.net hosts. The notifications via email includes both messages and email headers. Complaints sent to the abuse department have gone unanswered, and the spam continues to be sent from vel.net's network.

Originally I signed up for DSL service from a company called webuniverse, which was sold to Moonglobal which in turn was bought by Velocity. Shortly after my ISP was purchased by Velocity my wife decided to change our phone number, forgetting that our DSL service was tied to the phone number. Once the new phone number was in place our DSL service stopped.
We realized our mistake and called Velocity to get it reconnected. When I called they told me that because I had changed my phone number they had dropped me as a customer. They stated in no uncertain terms that I was no longer a customer and that I would have to apply as a new customer. Since I had to go through the whole hassle of becoming a new customer I decided to shop around and chose SurfCity to be my new DSL provider.
When SurfCity attempted to contact Verizon, my phone company, to set up the DSL connection, Verizon told them that another DSL provider had a lock on my line (my new phone number) and that it would have to be released by them first. This seemed strange to me since Velocity had told me that I was no longer a customer; if I was no longer a customer, how could they be locking my line?
I called Velocity and asked them to release my line. They told me that they would do that. SurfCity tried several days later to connect my DSL service but the line was still locked. I called Velocity again and they told me that they had requested that the line be unlocked. I then called Verizon and they told me that they had no such request. Verizon also told me that Velocity was laying claim to both my old phone number and my new phone number even though I had NEVER authorized a DSL connection for the new number with Velocity.
I waited several more business days. The line was still locked. I tried Verizon again, this time talking to a supervisor, who told me that the line was still locked and there was no action to have it unlocked. In the meantime I received an email from a person at Velocity telling me that it would take up to 30 days for the line to be released. That means I cannot get a new DSL connection for 30 days.
Don't use this company!! If you decided to go with them and then later on decided that you don't like them, they will prevent you from accessing the internet for 30 days.
I would never recommand these people to anyone!

When I first moved here they offered internet access but I didn't get it right away. Later on I added it on and was thankful I did. I was coming from a dial-up connection so it was a welcome change. I just wish I was able to keep my static IP for the same price.

Hello,
I am a consultant who is very dissatisfied with the service that Velocity Networks has provided. I have been trying to cancel my Dial Up account since 2/14/2001. I stopped using the dial up and email as early as January 2001. After several calls and emails, they continue to charge my credit cards. They have actually charged one of my credit cards without my written authorization. This company has horrible service and my complaints have fallen on deaf ears. This is not the first time I have received bad service from them. I also tried to cancel my father's dial up account last year and they pulled the same stunt.
I am in the process on filing a complaint with the better business bureau as well as other agencies.
I would not recommend them to anybody because of the nightmare they have put me through.

Linda at Velocity asked me to drop a line --so -- A quick note-- I have been a client of theirs for about three years, first with multiple dial up lines and then and now DSL. Having owned and operated a web hosting company in the past, I have had many dealings with service providers. I know my choices well and do my business with them. My primary consideration (after price) is customer service. I go by the theory that something will go wrong. In their case there have been very few problems and their response has been great. I also see for the future that they have the quality of people and equipment that I will need in my expanding business.

I friendly recommendation about Velocity, they rule. I love DSL. We have it at our house and our office. If you have an option I would go for the GTE Bronze +, by far the fastest connection I have used, next to a T1. I would definitely refer them to anyone.
