Sorry, about the only thing I can say anymore about my service is if you have a choice amongst providers, go with someone else. -I now have no tech support due to the fact that you can barely hear/understand whatever the heck some Habib on the other end is saying. -If I make any changes to my account I lose my Static IP or pay 14.95 more for it a month. -Nightly disconnects.
i thought Bellsouth was bad, ATT flat out sucks.

AT&T is finally offering DSL without home phone service, so I went ahead and signed up. This was heavily influenced by what Time Warner Cable is doing with bandwidth caps in other markets and the complete discontinuation of news group service.
I signed up on a Monday night and they gave me the account information during the same call. Took about 10 minutes to order including hold time.
Thursday, there was a note from UPS telling me where to pick up the modem and another from AT&T saying the service is active, along with a direct line for the tech that hooked up the service, just in case there were any problems.
I hooked up the modem that night and it instantly acquired DSL sync. Rather than giving me the PPPoE account info, they now require that the customer creates the information. This is where it gets annoying, since their installer tries to force the annoying Motive software on the computer to "help" configure the modem with the account information. There is no uninstall procedure for the Motive software, either.
The only problems so far was that parts of the order didn't automatically complete, which caused problems when ordering the static IP. However, the billing department was able to resolve this without too much hassle. It appears that there are some minor glitches possibly related to the BellSouth/AT&T merger.
I have no problems getting advertised speeds (3.0 Mbps down / 384 Kbps up) and the connection has not dropped once. Signals look very good. The modem is a Motorola 2210.
UPDATE 10/20/09: Static IP no longer free
Newsgroups discontinued
Two outages since my last review (DSLAM issues)
Speeds are now slow at night and unstable during the day. There is some packet loss which is making VoIP and Video applications painful. Multiple technician visits haven't solved anything, and other people in the AT&T Southeast forum report similar problems.
Due to the outages and slow speeds, I have had many bad experiences with phone support. Long hold times, being routed to the wrong department, and repeating the same basic steps that I tried before I ever called in over and over again.
Update 11/11/09: Problems continue, AT&T keeps sending techs out to check the same thing over and over, and won't tell me a thing about the status of the problem. Some techs won't call back, and phone support is beyond useless.

I've had ATT DSL for about 5 years, starting with 1.5 mbps. Signed up for the Fast Access Xtreme 6.0 pkg almost two years ago. Until about 5-6 months ago, I had few complaints, but since then it has been getting constant dropping the internet connection and while sometimes I am still getting close to the rated speed, the speed frequently drops off to half or much less of the rated 6 mbps. Ive been using a Westell 327W that was supplied; the firmware version is up to date. The worst thing about ATT: the "self-support tool" -- it's a bad joke.

I have had DSL with Bellsouth (Now ATT Southeast) since it became available in my area about 7 or 8 years ago. All in all, the connection has been good, though I have changed the DNS over to OpenDNS for quicker resolution and fewer outages. I moved to another home about 2 miles away about 3 years ago and the cut over was smooth as expected.
I had 1.5 down 128 up at first, now I am on 3.0 down 384 up. I would like to get 6.0 down, but cannot at this location, even though we have fiber all through the neighborhood to the curb and the entire area is pretty much all new build due to rapid growth.
I have satellite for TV so Cable internet is not a viable option cost wise, so I am kind of stuck until Uverse becomes available here.
ATT is OK, but not great.

UPDATE 9/10/09
Last time I updated the review was 3 years ago, I thought I would do this once more. So while the price remains the same IFITL customers for this region are hurting BAD! Speeds are as slow as 56k sometimes during peak hours. Just horrible service all around. The only good thing about ATT is using the wifi hotspots at starbucks when I am not at home. Everything else is CRAP!
I should note that I was having a conversation about VDSL2+ upgrades almost 4 years ago they said we would see upgrades in 2006 it is now 2009 and still NOTHING has been done.
I am not home as much now so the service remains at my residence. I will be switching to Comcast soon.
UPDATE 1/7/06
New Year decided to update my review once again, due to the recent price drops i have found that I am prepared to stay with bellsouth for a while longer i now pay $35 for IFITL speeds are now 1.8/256. I guess one thing i have been taking for granted about bellsouth is the downtime there has been only one incident in the 5 odd years i have been with bellsouth. I thank them for that and i hope to seeing a speed increase for IFITL customers soon... heres to wishful thinking.
UPDATE 6/14/05 i guess its time to update again, its 2005 and most other people with copper are now getting twice the speeds for about the same price... i was thinking about swtiching to comcast last month but i decided to give BS another chance... i have a router set up now and 3 computers hooked up to it. BS does not offer their networking package with IFITL so i had to buy my own equipment, I use a Netgear WGR 614, wired...
Anyway i hope Bellsouth gives us IFITL customers some attention my speeds now are jus around 1.9mbps down 250kbps up not so great for what im paying but i am hopeful that i will see speed increases by the end of the year. This is BS last chance if i do not see an upgrade in the next 6 months im jumping ship to cable probably as my nieghborhood is IFITL and I wont be able to qualify for any other DSL package.
1/30/03 well its been 2 years and i decided to update my review after quite a while... everything has been going great since i ordered my DSL yea there has been some ups and downs but those were corrected fast.... i did change my password a couple of weeks ago and that went smooth the techs were very friendly and the wait was around 5 min. i would still recommend this IFITL service for anyone who applies to it. i still get speed well above the advertised 1500/256 i get around 2000/256 and i am satisfied
Original Review: Bellsouth DSL IFITL, PPPoE, Dynamic IP, 1500-256 advertised
I was playing a online game and every1 was complaing about lag so it hit me DSL! found Bellsouth to be a good ISP in my area i ordered online i didnt even talk to a person..... and as the e-mail said 10 days later a guy was at my house putting up my DSL as instalasation was free (which is pretty rare)... well when i got it we had to pay $40 they increased it to $45 (which i dont mind at all) and its been all good ever since i first got on the comp with my DSL......they actually configured my comp to get best performance from DSL and when i got my new comp i phoned them for free and got my DSL up and running in 2 seconds.......well i usually go 1.9 mbps down and 256 kbps up ( its supposed to go 1.5mbps down and 256 kbps up) .....oh yeah and i ddint even need a modem cuz i have IFITL so i just needed a network PCI card which they installed in my computer i guess it has do to with something as my nieghborhood is fiber optics so its like some special service...........and for the matter for down hours id say ive seen at least 24 hrs of down time per year! which is pretty good! compared to other Cable and DSL users.....well theres my speel about Bellsouth DSL u live in Georgia well Bellsouth DSL should be your choice!

Not a good deal at any price. I hate COX, but at least they have decent bandwidth and a constant connection to the internet.

Considering Clear in ATL, however high latency, other ISP's for DSL in my area have to use AT&T thus same service, higher cost, bad connections. Comcast was horrid experience for entire year, will not go back, now ATT is getting as bad as comcast.
ZERO tech support. ZERO customer service
They put those who can help 5 layers beyond your reach...their is only voting with your feet, getting ready for that.

My biggest complaint is that my service comes and goes whenever there is any sort of thunderstorm within 20 miles. My service also seems much, much slower during the work day, even to my data center, so I know it isn't busy content servers that are just bogged down.

Customer at my present location since 2003. AT&T cannot seem to fix constant line noise & DSL sync drops, even after numerous cable splices, drop replacement, splitter/home-run install.
They admit cable issues in my neighborhood, but are apparently unwilling to repair "root" cause.
Calling support is usually frustrating experience which almost always results in tech being dispatched. They operate on a "customer is always the problem" basis
Original package was 1.5 Mb, later upgraded to 3.0.
Westell 6100 modem since 2005.
Price is "bundled" price with mobile service.
I miss Bellsouth!
