TWC Blazing Speeds That Are 4X Faster Than Dial-up!

Update: Since I've upgraded to 30/5 the service is awesome. This upgrade was not by choice, all the other services that TWC offers are only a little faster than Dial-up, not much faster...just a little itsy-bit faster...

Turbo is about 5-6Mb. Standard is about 1-2Mb. Utilization issues going on for over a year now...

Update again: Forget all that. they still suck! They sometimes fluctuate from "horrible" to "doesn't suck that bad" but always back to "horrible" eventually.

agreed

I have been customer of NYC Time Warner Road Runner Turbo Plus package in rockaway park queens, and until 4 weeks ago I would give them A+, but since 4 weeks ago every day at peak times latency jumps above 300 ms on their network and speeds are down to dial up specs, I agree with your ratings right now, this is terrible service atm. I have been calling support almost 100 times past 4 weeks and still nothing been done about my problem, except the fact technician came to visit only to confirm there is no problem on my end, its congestion on nyc rr network, thats the real problem it seems.

When I first came to Los Angeles, I was served by AT&T, which morphed into Comcast and finally TWC. When TWC took over, their customer service was terrible because their call centers were swamped. That has improved over the past couple of years. About two years ago, I move (only a couple of blocks. The TWC rep suggested setting up a new account so I could avail myself of the current "specials'. That seemed a good idea, until I discovered that my Roadrunner email addresses, user name and password had gotten obliterated.

While there have been a few cable failures in the past few years that knocked everything out, I think I'll confine my comments to ISP-related issues. There have been occasional connectivity failures where I couldn't even ping a Roadrunner address. They have lasted anywhere from 20 minutes to 8 or more hours. Another problem that comes up every couple of months is when the Roadrunner nameservers become comatose for anywhere from one to six hours. I have a workaround for those occasions. I simply reprogram my router to use other nameservers.

Not thrilling, but I suppose I can get by with it.

(this is a copy of the comments I added in response to someone else's post - it's been awhile since I've done this, so I just figured out, again, how to add my own "top" post)

Time Warner BusinessClass (Business Class) Internet Service - NYC

Since before Sandy, the service has been quite spotty. This is in the Flatiron district of Manhattan. Goes from working OK, to dropped packets, to not working at all. I call in to report service problems and get everything from "yes we see dropped packets", or - "there's an outage in the area", to "no trouble found".

I get robo-calls telling me the service has been restored, when it's still lousy.

I then get "how are we doing?" phone surveys, which add insult to injury. I just hang up; don't want to zing the call center "techs" whose only "crime" was taking my call.

I have to say: this Internet connection worked very well for quite awhile, but it's just been miserable recently.

If I connect a different Internet provider to the VERY SAME ETHERNET PORT on my router, I have NONE of these problems.

And Oh, yes... when I call in for a service call, they schedule it for 2-5 days in the future. This is supposed to be "Business Class" service.

And their usual response is "we'll change the modem". Been there. done that AT LEAST 3 TIMES. No change.

Phooey.

What a shame.

ordered TWC as uverse was messing up. though it would be a good idea. Apparently i was wrong. i ordered the 30/5mbps service, and albeit i do get it(when it works), i still get REALLY bad latency, both in games and also in the testing tools here. connection tends to drop alot and the whole tv/internet service is alot more expensive for what you get compared to uverse. i did have issues with uverse but at least i'd be able to play pc games without any lag, but with twc even tho speed tests show 30/5, i get massive lag on games to the point where they're unplayable.

Have had TWC since 2005 when it was a Comcast market. It took 30+ truck rolls, over 2 months to get my 3 DVR's and HSI running.

HD selection is good, PQ is great, but the iGuide and Navigator software on the DVR's is truly awful. The GUI is absolutely terrible.

I have 75/5 wideband and get my advertised speeds, but my signal levels on the downstream have been decaying for several years.

FIOS is not available in my area, and uVerse stinks because it only allows a couple of HD streams at a time. I need 6 simultaneous HD streams.

Some suggested alternatives...

May I suggest upgrading to WH-DVR?

Benefits of the upgrade:

Lower overall price: WHDVR with 2 playback boxes is cheaper than 3 HDDVRs.

More space: Standard HD-DVR is 60hrs each vs. 430 Hrs per WH-DVR.

Bonus - Networking: Right now if you want to watch what you record you will need to sit in the room you recorded it at; vs WHDVR you can access your recordings from any room you have a box. I will grant however that you need to set up your recordings from the DVR.

As a second alternative, you may wish to also consider upgrading to SignatureHome + 1 additional playback box
(you'll increase your overall recording time to 860 combined hours and get faster Internet, plus some cool extras in the process.

Just an FYI!

Sincerely,

Jim McCoy

  • Santa Monica,Los Angeles,CA

It started at the beginning of 2012 for about $65 with their online deal and after a year, about now the bill would have gone to over $100. This is for phone + internet no tv.

The reason ? The promotions ended for my phone and internet. Sometime ago to lower the bill I got my own modem so I don't have to pay the leasing fee, but guess what ?

They now charge you $4.95 every month if you use wireless ! ! !

That charge is VERY upsetting.. You own your own modem/router and they charge you for wifi in your house using your own equipment. You are getting the same wireless you have always had before, but now you pay more. It does not matter if you use their wireless modem or yours you still have to pay.

Why ? Because they can !

Last but not least, every 6/ 12 months a promotion you had expires and you have to call and see if they are willing to extend it, but that one month that you forget your bill will go up and they know it ! It would be fair if as long as they give you the same service, you pay the same price, but no " Sorry your promotion expired last month."

What do I do now ? I switch to Verizon at least they don't charge you for wireless..." wi-fi service" , according to twc.

Of course Verizon plays similar games and after 1 year if you don't sign a contract prices will go up.

Now I don't even call the costumer service anymore to see if they extend my promotion. After about one year I just switch company on and on. The cable guy whatever is TWC or Verizon shows up and hooks me up. It is a waste of time and money if you think about it, but I sit at home and they do all the work.

I wish I did not have to play their games, but they don't give me any other choice.

If you are lucky to have an alternative provider I suggest to do the same thing I do. After they raise your bill, don't call them to warn them that you are about to go with the competition: do it !

Maybe one day someone will wake up and ask if loyal costumers add any value to their business.

I was happy with my Time Warner Cable RoadRunner Basic service for two years. However, when my download speed plummeted to below 1 Mbps then failed completely, the rottenness of Time Warner Cable reared its ugly head.

During my first attempt to fix the problem, the technician was too lazy to wait until his scheduled 5-6pm time block. He called to notify that he would fix the problem from the outside around 4pm while I was at work so that he could get home - if I was still having problems I could leave him a voice mail to set up another appointment. He never returned my messages.

When I called customer service to set up a new appointment, my internet had completely failed. They could not trust my claim that the internet was failing and required that I go through the troubleshooting procedure once again over the phone. Eventually they were able to set up an appointment for 10 days in advance that I am still waiting on.

A few days ago I received a more considerate call from Time Warner advising that I go by their store and swap out my modem. But, after waiting in line for an hour over lunch to be greeted by a skeptical customer service representative indicative of a company that doesn't know how to treat their employees, I received a refurbished modem that appeared to be 5+ years old. It provides about 1.1 Mbps - 11% of the "up to 10 Mbps" slated in our service agreement.

A technician is scheduled to arrive at my house between 5 & 6pm tomorrow. Will he deliver? To be continued...

I live in El Paso, and got this service in June. I have the 20MB Internet and Cable TV package. Twice in the last month I have had issues with the internet speeds. In the mornings and evenings I am getting less than 1 MB speeds. When the technician came out he said the colder weather was causing the issues on my street. He said they are working on it and it should improve. Days later it did improve. But 2-3 weeks later I am experiencing the same problems. The internet speed this morning and last night was around .60MBs. The difference this time is the Cable TV is also having issues. The last 3 days some channels are lagging and freezing up. But because I don't watch a lot of TV I did not know that this problem existed over a week ago. One of my recordings from 7 days ago is lagging so bad it is not even watchable. I called Friday to report my problems, but even though I have no decent internet connection or Cable TV, the still can't come out until Monday.
