Wanted to avoid AT&T, Time Warner was high quality and convenient. Originally got a promo package, now settled onto Digital Cable and Road Runner. Order & Install within 3 days, was friendly and quick. Digital Cable Box was either Motorola or Scientific Atlanta I can't recall have since switched to Cable Card. Cable Modem was black cable modem from Motorola. Have all been good experiences with the exception of the random sometimes a few times a week 10-25 minute downtime around 11pm-1am. Just randomly shuts down, and comes back. Sort of coming back to a place where we might drop the Video service and go strictly to Road Runner, I'd recommend Time Warner over AT&T to everyone.

Have been a TW customer for over two years. Very few outages. This is an old Comcast area, bought out by AT&T, then by TW.
When first setup, HSI went great. TV connections were good. Upgraded to HD-DVR boxes - wife loves them
Motorola SB2400 surfboard Motorola HD boxes
No real complaints, except cost.

When I start with TW there were no other high speed around this area. These days we have Windstream, it's a pick the best of the worst thing.

San Diego - 92111 - Time Warner Cable
I am currently paying $46/mo for Time Warner Cable and it is a ridiculous rip off. The speeds are good but drop to a snails pace between 5 and 10PM every single day. Time Warner will of course blame this on you, but seeing as it happens to everyone I know with the service, it's clearly their fault. I cannot watch a full screen video on youtube at this time of day without it stuttering every ten seconds and loading websites isn't much better. It's a shame they have a monopoly in the area, otherwise I would try something else.

(update)The DVR service seems to be getting worse. Often times, when watching a show, it freezes. When watching something recorded, when fast forwarding over the commercials, the DVR seems to have a mind of it's own. When pushing the fast forward button once, it will sometimes go up to two, three or even four, instead of just one.
(update) Time Warner has been talking about putting caps on their Road Runner service and also starting a tiered plan. If they do initiate that, then we will be limiting our cable TV plans or may even get rid of it altogether, for a satellite service.
We can record two different programs with the DVR at the same time and watch something that is already recorded. Or we can watch the cable that is going straight into the TV.
You can't do any of that with any of the satellite services. We can also do Video OnDemand, which is cheaper than renting a movie and they almost always have movies as soon as they are available for rent or to buy at the store.
The only problems that we have, is that on occasion the cable box will lock up and need to be reset. A technician, said that it is because they are trying to send so much information down the cable, that it overloads the system, and is a quirk that needs to be worked out by the engineers.

I ordered the fastest internet only package I could get from them (RR Turbo). At that time was 10 down \ 2 up, never hits the up... fastest is 1.8 for $59.95 per month. Now they offer 15\2 for the same price. My down when it's working is around 23.
They never showed up for the first appointment, they did make the second one.
Time Warner didn't need to do anything but turn it on (still charged $99.00 installation), I already did all the cable and network lines during a remodel.
I bought my own modem Linksys. The connection worked great for about two weeks, then it went to junk and has been for the last one and a half years.
After buying two modems and four routers! (linksys, belkin modems, linksys, belkin, belkin, dlink and netgear routers) Tech support kept saying it's the modem or it's the router. Constant drop off ... not packet loss but just no connection at all. If you don't watch movies online, you don't game and do very little uploading to your sites! No problem but if you do BANG they break your connection about every 45 to 60 minutes? My guess they think your file sharing?
Time Warner loses my modem about once a week or so, no connection, restart everything, switch from vista to win 7, back to vista. Then try vista x32m then call tech support, just to be told I don't have a MODEM? I give time warner tech support all the numbers again (model and mac address). Then I'm good for another week or two of poor connection.
My only other choice is ATT ... LOL 5mg down\1mg up max for $49.95. TW will hit some good download speeds when it's working. But I tried ATT anyway OMG... no connection loss, setup was faster but the speed was like going back in time! 3.5megs down, 700kbs up. So I kept time warner if I had any other choice I would drop them in a heartbeat!

Cable service above the basic levels gives you a good variety of programming but, unfortunately, you have to take a lot of bad with the good.
- I don't watch that many channels, but the ones I want are in separate digital tiers. Cha-ching for TWC!
- The digital service is a real roller coaster. When more channels are added the PQ goes down until TWC decides to upgrade local infrastructure. Right now many HD channels are being added (mostly duplicate or time shifted programming) which has had a negative impact.
- Worst of all, their set top box inventory is extremely obsolete and barely capable of running their new Navigator software. For us non-DVR customers, the old Passport software worked fine. Navigator is slow for even simple program guide browsing, and will lock up with little provocation.
- It took me over a dozen STB exchanges over four years to get one that didn't reboot frequently or have other problems; TWC is not competent to repair this hardware. Too bad that Cable Card technology is purposely crippled and badly implemented - a tech visit should NOT be required to install one!
- The power on/off button of my current STB (SA 4250HDC) does Not have any useful function. When off, power consumption is still about ~16 watts 24x7. Thanks for nothing, TWC!

I've used Verizon, Bellsouth, Earthlink, Cricket, Cingular, Windstream and some other name that I can't remember but I've found that Time Warner Cable's Road Runner is the fastest and most reliable Internet Service Provider in the Charlotte, NC area. Upgraded to the Turbo version 2 years ago and WILL NOT use any other service. I've hit downloads as high as 19800, almost 20Mbps is awesome for less than $50 bucks. I have not lost service one time since we moved in and I use to have it when I have lived other places here in Charlotte for over the last 5 years and its the best on the market.
The installer guy came in 3 days from when I moved in and then like 6 months later we moved to the Apt next door and they had to come back out and transfer me and they were there the next day, heck we weren't even done moving our stuff over here yet. Guy ran me brand new lines too. (which is always a plus for speed).
Last year we dumped our Time Warner Cable for Direct TV and the NFL package ( I didn't give up my Turbo Road Runner, I'm not that stupid ). But I was stupid enuf to bite on the Direct TV deal, now where it did have a ton of movies and good channels, the reception when out every time it rained or stormed, We had the repair guy out 2 or 3 times a week for the whole 6 months we had the shit, I cancelled it and now they are hounding me for an early termination fee of like $485 or some ungod like figure, I told em to come get it like Count Drac. Direct TV's Customer service people were the worst from any company of any kind. At least TWC's customer service people answered the phone quickly and knew what they were talking about.
I'll never switch again.

One day our AT&T adsl modem died for second time this year and we had to call our IT guy for help. When he arrived I asked some question and fortunately I mentioned the price we were paying for 4 AT&T business phone lines, elite internet + international long distance calls. Our total monthly bill is/was around $700 a month!
Our IT guy recommend us to talk to TimeWarner and get an estimate on the services that we currently have so I gave TWCBC a call and to my surprise I got an estimate of $187 a month for 4 business lines and 10/1 internet. I asked the salesman what was the catch and he said there was no catch so the next day I placed the order.
The order confirmation arrived in the form of a 5 page digitally signed pdf document our IT guy filled out the form and sent it back. The work order included phone numbers port. 8 days later our IT guy called me and informed me that the installation was scheduled for wednesday (10 days from placing the order)
The installation day came and it took around two hours. When the TWCBC technician left we had 4 new phone lines and 10/1 internet. Our IT guy spent the next two days cleaning up decades of AT&T's neglect on the internal wiring, probably 2 thirds of the internal wiring was removed. The inside of the access cabinet looked like a rat's nest.
I ran a speed test and got a solid 10240Kbps down and 967Kbps up.
The funny thing is that AT&T called and offer us a discount of about $400 but it was too late in the process. I asked the AT&T representative why they didn't call me before and she said that this promotion was recently introduced in September 2009, what a bunch of *%^$.
