To be fair, at this point I only have used Future Nine service for Toll-Free termination.

Their call quality is far superior to my current termination provider. I will have to deposit some funds and try them for toll termination soon. I'll update my review when I've tested their "regular termination".

Thanks F9 for providing an awesome service!

10/2009 - 1 year later update. What can I say - solid product with only one glitch (particular number that would not route on a Grey route) I'm a very satisfied customer and would recommend them highly. Changed from DSL to Cable and ATA was a bit sensitive - had to power off for an extended period to get it to work right in new configuration. But it all worked out. A++

8/2008 Became customer in August, 2008. Installed initially as a softphone and was up and running INSTANTLY. Bandwidth is via DSL 6M/768 - voice quality is excellent 98% of the time (a couple of calls with echo issues in a given month - no repeats if the call was redialed.) Bought Linksys refurbished PAP2 from them - initial unit had a background hum problem which was replaced without issue. Great tech support - I wanted simultaneous ring of my softphone and the ATA (I carry the laptop to client sites) and it worked like a charm. Ordered a DID from my preferred exchange and they delivered a preferred number (having repeated digits) without issue.

    OVERALL - Very satisfied customer

    Canadian DID was initially unreliable.

I was offered a pro rated refund as compensation.

EDIT: F9 was able to pressure the upstream provider into changing a route and now my DID is reachable. Someone at F9 went out of their way to fix this and I am appreciative.

    I apologize for your experience.

Unfortunately, for lack of a better word - Canadian carriers suck. They're totally hit or miss and even DIDs from the same carrier can either work great or very poorly. You unfortunately hit a DID that wasn't working well, but the carrier simply doesn't care. We really have nothing we can do here other than refund it.

We've been struggling with this issue and considered dropping DID service to Canada completely many times. We do have some happy Canadian users though which is why we we've kept it so far.

Our US service is completely different, and rock solid. It's just Canada that doesn't have quality DID providers (that we were able to find).

I was sick and tired of the deathstar overcharging me for phone service. I did some research and found future 9. Took a little while to get a new phone number, but have been extremely satisfied since then. Calls are clear with very little problems. For the amount of calls I make, future 9 fits just right.

June 17th Signed up and paid to port my number from Nuvio.

July 2nd Received an email with a question about my address, and that is when they said they would initiate the porting process from Nuvio.

On July 21st I submitted an inquiry, and was informed that it was rejected due to a name mismatch. Jonathan Doe vs John Doe sort of thing. Resubmitted.

August 13th, no word, so on a whim, I sent an email suggesting Jonathan A. Doe.

August 29th. Email confirming number has been ported. Should be working by the end of the day.

August 30th Still not working. Received insufficient funds alert with threat of losing my number in one day if funds not submitted. $4.98 is $.02 short. Deposited more funds.

August 31 Still not working. Have submitted support requests daily. Get an email around 2 AM every day, but still not fixed as of 9-2.

I can still make and receive calls through Nuvio. I can call out through FN and it shows up as my number.

I signed up based on the superior reviews here on DSLreports. I depend more on a cell phone, Thank God. If this number was critical I would be livid. I'm still being patient, and am able to work around the problems, but they're not perfect. Still hoping to get things working, and then have years and years of troublefree service.

Update: I had to give up because I was in danger of losing my number, so I went back to Nuvio. I don't believe this was Futurenines fault, and they have offered me a refund when all is done.

Maybe I'll try again in the future.

    I realize you're frustrated, but...

Your chain of events is incorrect. I have personally submitted your port to our carrier on 6/17 and sent you a confirmation email (same day!).

The port was rejected by the previous carrier (read: their fault - not ours!!) on 6/22. Ever since then we've been actively working to get your number ported. We've spent a great deal of time dealing with your port as it kept getting rejected and we had to keep resubmitting.

The fact that your previous carrier keeps refusing the port is not our fault. You should be giving them negative reviews - not us!!

As far as the 8/29 date goes- we were told by our carrier that the port has gone through. Unfortunately however, your previous carrier has not yet released the number to our carrier despite being supposed to. This, yet again - is their fault and not ours.

The last status I have from our carrier is this will be resolved in a day or two. Please be patient as it is out of our control. It's not like we've been sitting here doing nothing - we've been working dilligently on getting your number ported!!

Some porting carriers just don't play nice

Wow, I can see your utter frustration with the port!
I've had a number of problems myself trying to port numbers. Future Nine was actually the first carrier able to port my number and they did it in less than three weeks. I had previously submitted about five different LNP authorizations to different carriers over the span of about a year.

It doesn't seem as though this situation is the fault of Future Nine, but I totally understand why it would be frustrating to wait so long for a port. I hope that it will go through, and it looks like things are looking up.

Once you're up and running I hope things will work better for you!

    Completely unfair placement of blame!

To the reviewer. Your facts are in error and your review is entirely unfair ... and although I am not a Future-Nine customer, I am disappointed in your obvious misconceptions about VoIP porting. Refer to this thread for the "real story" of why some ports are problematic:

Re: Completely unfair placement of blame!

Well, first of all, I'm still waiting. And you may be correct that it is not F9's fault.

However, communication about the status of the problem has been basically nonexistent from F9. I did get a general explanation from F9 that it was the other companies problem the morning after I submitted this review, along with a request to stop reminding them, that it will get fixed "in a few days".

So the review still applies to the quality of F9's support. If I were to get some copies of reject messages or something along those lines, I would be happy to post a review of the other company. But so far, I remain in the dark.

That's a fair point, joejett. I'm sure that the F-9 CEO will read your response and give it honest consideration. [Nitzan ... yoo-hoo ... are you listening? ]

    I give up

I abandoned my quest to port my number to futurenine today, and returned to Nuvio, because I was afraid of losing my number. They said their porting is through a third party, and gave me this url, »portout.verizonbusiness.com/login.asp which is a login page. Nuvio stated that it is not there policy to block porting requests, but it is out of there hands. I do believe the porting issue was not futurenine's fault, and I'm not going to beat a dead horse about any other issues. I wish the porting would have been successful, but this is the way it is.

I have an Asterisk 1.6 PBX running at my home. I had been using a Vonage soft-phone account for over three years, but wanted to switch to a provider that supports BYOD on my primary number.

I tried these four providers: AxVoice, CallCentric, Future-Nine, and Voip.ms.

I thought that all four had similar call quality.

The Future-Nine website is the most basic and I didn’t think it was very easy to use. When ordering a DID number, there was no list of numbers and not even a list of cities.

It took ten days to receive my DID phone number.

Future-Nine does support E911 in my area. They support CNAM inbound, but not outbound.

DID numbers are billed in advance on the anniversary of when the number was established, instead of on the first of the month.

A few times I had to restart my Asterisk in order to receive calls from Future-Nine. I didn’t have to do this for the other providers. There might have been a setting that I needed to change in order to fix this, but I had decided against this provider and didn’t see the need to investigate this.

Future-Nine has the least expensive rates, but I don’t make enough calls for the price difference to be significant to me. I decided against this service because I wanted outbound CNAM support and I didn’t like their website.

When ATT announced they were pulling the plug on CallVantage, I made a serious effort to find a cost effective alternative for my home-based small business. Of all the available options, F9 appeared to offer the best service, reliability and price, with most of the features I depend on.

After being on board for approximately one month, F9 has met most of my expectations - other than some limitations on important features, such as Global Call Hunt and voice mail greetings.

F9 requires the purchase of a phone adapter, and pay for number porting (both free with CV, and several other services), but the lower monthly cost and long distance fees will more than make it up within the first year.

When searching for a VoIP service provider, be sure to see through much of the hype and shills, and I expect many others to share my conclusion.

SEPT 04, 2009 UPDATE: For more than a month now, I have been experiencing a degredation in call quality. As posted in the F9 forum, my system configuration (router, DSL service, modem) worked great with ATT CallVantage, and continues to do well with PhonePower's VoIP service. I supplied F9 with all of the requested test data, which has not changed in several years, and they simply stopped answering my emails.

As one of the factors in choosing F9 was calling features that are not yet functional, at this point I am not a happy camper, and regret paying for 12 months service in advance and buying an ATA.

-Good reliability and Cheap rates is perfect for me. Since I make lots of international calls I like the choice of deciding which route to take. I bought my own device (Sipura 1001) took just 10 minutes to set it up. nitzan (a fellow member here and owns future nine) replied to my every problems within 30 min after I send an instant message. This compensated for the lack of phone support.

    Update

-My DID cost $4 a month (W/O caller ID). I make few local calls at rock bottom price of 1 cent a minute. And I call a lot to Bangladesh at only 3.39 cents a minute. Previously I used calling card but after switching to future nine my entire bill averages $17, with loads of international calls to Bangladesh.
