We're off to a picture perfect start with this company! So far, it almost seems too good to be true. Keeping my fingers crossed...

No other broadband options available for my particular location. Sprint and Verizon's 2 year contracts too restrictive for my needs. Not to mention customer service aspect. I spoke to several (Sprint) Manila based customer service reps before being transferred to Salt Lake and none of them could provide any useful information - other than to go to the website. Verizon's 'unlimited' service reserves the right to restrict your bandwidth.

One call to Millenicom and they had the answers almost immediately AND no bandwidth usage restrictions or ridiculous commitment requirements.

I ordered this service on Tuesday, received and installed equipment (Franklin CDU680 usb modem) on Saturday. Works flawlessly. Good connection speed (800K to 1.2M down/200K to 500K up) acceptable ping times (approx 100ms).

I found www.dslreports.com about 4 months ago. After reading and doing my own research (and most of it I don't understand) I took the plunge of getting service thru millenicom. I am so pleased with the speeds that I get ! I never thought I would see these kinds of speeds where I live at all ! Cable, Verizon DSL etc. are NOT available where I live. My dial-up connection was the pits It would struggle to download my email, let alone a web page.

And THANKS to those who have written in with questions, answers and suggestions in the forum area! Without these, I would never have taken the steps to obtain wireless broadband thru millenicom.

So, If you are reading this, and are not tech savvy like me, take a chance, I'm glad I did

Millenicom is a reseller of Sprint Mobile Broadband. Being aprox $16 cheaper a month as there are no extra taxes or fees, make their service well worth the money at $49 a month.

You are never on hold more than 5 minutes when calling Millenicom tech support. They are always friendly and knowledgeable.

AND NO BILLING ISSUES as with Sprint. That to me is a huge plus. I was having to call Sprint billing month after month for extra charges on my bill, yes Sprint removed them, but being on hold waiting for help, would take well over an hour.

Millenicom is top notch in my opinion and a 5 star operation.

Recently moved to the country in our dream home only to find out the the few trees in the neighbors yard really do block the signal from the WISP I was planing on using. 100 feet to the North or South and all is good. Too cold to explore many other options like making them fine tune the signal and running a trial. I like the possibility of getting their 3M/1M but will have to wait and see.

Picked up Sprint modem from local store and low and behold I can get service using EVDO Rev. A. Figured that the oraange on the map was not very accurate but it worked. Then heard about Millenicom on the forums at DSLReports.com and thought that was a much better option. (i.e. no contract) Since I new that coverage was adequate to be better than dial up and I do not have a hard phone line anyway (remember I had planned on using WISP and Vonage) I ordered the Millenicom modem and router. BAM!! 3days later I am in business. Returned Sprint and told them to cancel service for me.

I had already had experience with StarBAD back in my early days of computer repair shop I once owned. It was the only thing around for me at the time. We just got DSL and cable service to the town about 5 years ago. Of course now that I am on some decent property with new house I have given up the 5M/1M cable.

I have been very impressed with this service even though I am about eight miles from the tower. I get about 500 - 700 down with 100 to 200 up. This is without an antenna because I mounted it on the wrong end of the house. I had bad info on tower location. Waiting on better weather before I move it.

Bottom line for rural customers without any other choice this is an ideal option.

    MBR Router & modem info

FYI - From what assent has said, there will be a firmware update that will allow us to access some of the modem info from the MBR-400 administration screen.

Signal strength is one of the things we will be able to access, I am not sure what else is on tap. Apparently the update is expected in a few weeks.

    My Other Reviews·Sprint Mobile Broa..
I am a Sprint phone customer, and have been for years. I stay with them because in the areas I live and travel to, they have the best most consistent strong coverage.

However, because I have had multiple issues with their billing department and tech support in the past, I was loathe to try EVDO once it came to my area. Worse, when I tried to get questions answered about EVDO from Sprint, I got a lot of conflicting and incorrect information. Further, I was not especially happy with the cards offered by Sprint.

Enter Millenicom. They answered my questions promptly both by phone and via email. They rush shipped me a USB modem, the Franklin CDU 680. In 3 days I was up and running, and never went back to using my Hughesnet satellite internet.

My speeds have not been stellar, but the connection is very solid and decent latency, especially compared to satellite internet. My signal is a bit low. as I am in a bit of a valley and my modem is in the basement. I have ordered a router from Millenicom, and plan to keep that upstairs on the side of the house nearest the tower; I expect that will improve my signal significantly and the speeds will come up a touch as well.

    My Other Reviews·ViaTalk
Good service, great to have the freedom to move about the country with a solid connection.

I called the number on their website »www.Millenicom.com, asked a few question from a person that really knew their service and product, signed up on the web, had the USB modem in my hand a day sooner than expected, plugged it in, clicked a few buttons and it has been working fine for a few weeks now. These folks have their stuff together!

They ship a Franklin CDU-680 modem and offer the Asscent MBR-400 router.
no charge for the modem and the router is $50 cheaper than most places.

    No contracts!

Try them, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

    Re: Router

Rachel, a router does several things. A router allows you to share one internet connection with several computers. The number of computers you could reasonably share with depends on how good your internet connection is. Most routers are also combined into one box with two other very necessary items; the firewall and a switched hub. A device like this lets you connect up to 4 computers (more is possible), protect them from hacking with the firewall, and also talk to each other in network fashion. The router gives any computer that connects to it its own distinctive address, called the IP address.

    Got the idea now?
