The companies name is correctly VOIPo.

    My disclosures:

This is a review of a service currently in pre-launch status.

I am biased, I participated in the alpha and beta cycles of development with this company for well over a year. Please see my periodic updates I post at the end of my evaluation.

    The evaluation.

VOIPo has been built as a company according to the vision of owner Timothy Dick. The company has been committed to developing a high quality, stable and reliable service for customers. At one point, he discovered that his development team had failed to follow his vision of quality; I watched as he replaced the whole team with other professionals in the field, and basically started development over. With this new team, he has produced what I find to be an extremely secure and reliable VoIP service, coupled with features easily controlled from within the users 'vPanel.' BEWARE, controlling available features from this simple and straight-forward interface can become almost addictive! Call quality has been exceptional throughout development, partially attributable to concentrating on US service. Downtime I've noticed to date has amounted to perhaps two hours, primarily during announced hardware/software upgrades and modifications. At this time, VOIPo services will appeal primarily to the residential customer who just wants to plug it in, have the phone work, and have all the bells and whistles too.

The primary offering is a Residential plan, designed for customers in the U.S.A. It is intended to use a simple and reliable standard GrandStream analogue phone adapter, that was chosen for the ease of VOIPo remote diagnostics and maintenance. There is also an allowance for a softphone to be used when traveling. Customers use the “vPanel” to setup and control their account in real time. Failover, Call Waiting, 3 Way Calling, Caller ID with Name, Call Waiting ID, Anonymous Call Rejection, Caller ID Block, Call Return, Call Forwarding, and Voice mail are standard included features. The voice mail feature is on of the slickest I've seen. There is an ability to notify one or more email accounts of receipt of a voice mail including the Caller ID (CID), size and date and time of the message. You may elect to include a .WAV file of the message on an account basis. You may also elect to send an SMS with just the CID, size and date/time information (i.e. To your cell phone). An elaborate contacts management system is fully integrated into the other features like Custom Caller ID, Call Routing, Click to Call, Do Not Disturb and much more. You may associate unlimited phone numbers with the contact and also assign n your contacts to groups like family, friends, enemies, work ,etc. Once a contact is added, you may assign a nickname or 'custom CID name' that will be used to override the default network provided Caller ID name. Having your CID display “Dad” instead of a generic “PA Cell Phone” makes life a lot easier. You may also like the neat click-to-call feature within the contacts system. User selectable Custom call routing criteria (including wildcards!) allows unlimited manipulation of inbound calls to reach your phones, get a busy signal or a disconnected message, or be forward to another number or straight to voice mail. You can setup unlimited routing options and manage them all in real-time from the user console. Similarly, you may route outbound calls! You can create your own 'speed dial' features for example, by routing outbound '111' to your tennis partner's phone if you like. If you disapprove of your minor son calling the local escort service, just send that number to a busy signal, or better yet to your cell phone for confession time. Only your imagination can limit how outgoing calls from your phone are handled!. VOIPo supports dialing 7, 10, or 11 digits for ease of use. The entire system is designed support using SIP addresses for both inbound calls and as destinations. A user may also elect participation in a 'Community Powered Telemarketing Block' program, or to block all international calls. Users can easily add residential virtual local numbers from rate centers throughout the country, or even virtual toll free numbers.

    July 15, 2008

I'm now a _paying_ customer... because of the confidence I have in VOIPo's products. So, I put my $ where I've talked about!

    October 20, 2008

I must now admit to being a VOIPo addict. I now have two dedicated residential accounts as well as 7 DIDs pointed to pbx servers (1 toll-free number, 1 toll-free fax number and 5 low-volume 'local' DIDs for family members.) When I need something for lower 'residential' volume inbound traffic set up fast, I find myself at the VOIPo login. A few seconds later the new service is live.

VOIPo does limit itself at present to providing standard residential volume products, primarily intended for single household use. So, I also must confess to happily using several other providers for my higher volume out-bound termination from the asterisk-based systems where I need greater flexibility and control. Nothing bad against VOIPo, it's just their choice for a sound and stable business model (darn it).

20090109 - Developing into a solid, long-term national provider in the large scale category. Constantly looking to add features to an already solid line-up of services. Extremely responsive! Look for VOIPo to be around for a long time!

    My Other Reviews·BroadVoice
I quit broadvoice due to their caller id not picking up names of neighbor's calls. Also I was pissed at their big company attitude with the charges and lackluster customer service.

VOIPO has been great to me so far. They gave me a modem that has a cloned line, meaning I can make a call while someone else is on the phone. I did not expect this.

Their customer service helped me a lot with the questions I had before signing up.

I had an issue with inbound calls going straight to voicemail on the day it was ported from BV. The ticket was responded to quickly and problem fixed, they even gave me an extra month of free service for this inconvenience. I doubt broadvoice would do that, heck they even didn't give me back an automatic pro rate yet (I am asking for it now) for paying for January, but using only 4 days!

Also, they were quick to fix an issue on the website not showing my voicemail and device list.

I hope they stay like this. It seems like they have great customer support by treating their employees well.

    My Other Reviews·Qwest.net
    1/02/09 UPDATE:

Service is still rock solid - passing the wife-o-meter for call quality. Only issue that we have is that with the specific Panasonic cordless phone system at home we are unable to "click/flash" over to call waiting.

This is a service that I have recommended to family to replace their current POTS lines if they are looking to make a change.

    11/14/08 UPDATE:

I am on a 1.5M/896k DSL line with interleave turned on and call quality has been great. There has only been a few times over the last month that either my wife or myself could tell any difference from a traditional POTS line.

Ported over my landline home phone number and still could not be happier with the service. While there are a few kinks that they are still working out of there system support has been spot on with any requests that have come up.

If you want to do some tinkering this is not the provider for you, but if you do not have the time or want to mess around with anything and want a set it and forget provider this is the way to go. This is the perfect solution for someone who is looking for a true plug and play VoIP provider.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------

After spending a few weeks reading up on the different providers out there I decided on VoIPo. I have been forwarding landline number into a new DID with VoIPo the last week or so and service has been rock solid. I will be porting landline number over in the next week or so - will update after that is complete on the process, although if it is like anything else so far will be easy.

From the initial contact with them through installation and after they have been quick and easy to work with. At this time I would have no problem recommending them to someone in the market for new VoIP service.

I signed up for the one year promo after reading all the good reviews. A lot of long time users with a lot of VOIP experience led me to sign up. The promo deal was too go to pass up. After signing up I had several tickets in to get some questions answered and a couple minor issues fixed. Support is the best I have seen! Tickets get an intelligent answer within several hours, sooner if they are a higher priority. So far the call quality is excellent. I have been with several companies and so far I love what I see. Very responsive. The wife made several calls and asked if we got a land line or what I did to improve the quality! Can't wait to report back in several months. Time will tell but right now, the responsiveness of the technical support\billing department eased my mind into getting service for a company I did not even knew existed a couple months ago. I did try to sign up as a beta tester a while back but got the email that they were going public. Glad I signed up for the email! looking forward to actually using my phone! The efax features, 800 service and extra addons I can use in the future will be great.

I recently ordered Voipo for a second phone line (I use POTS for the first line due to Alarm System, Wife......). The first time I tried to order the service, the web site crashed (growing pains?). After about 20 minutes, the system was up and running again and I ordered the service. After 3 days I received the Grandstream ATA adapter they provided, plugged it in and it didn't register with their server. I opened a ticket and surprisingly got a response within 5 hours - which is surprising because it was a Saturday and their support is only M-F. They recreated my account and the service started working. I then noticed that my inbound calls were not getting through. I logged another support call and again got a response on the weekend - stating that my number was having issues and they logged a ticket with L3. They immediately provided me a FREE virtual number to allow others to call me in the mean time while the number wasn't working. It was resolved within 3 hours although support never told me it was fixed (I was just glad it was fixed). They also gave me an extra month service for all of my troubles (another very cool move). Since the problems have been fixed, I have had flawless service. Also, since they fixed the problems so quickly, I give them an A+ in support. They are definitely worth checking out.

One cool feature is the roaming E911. I ordered my number to be closer to my parents-in-laws in a different state, but thanks to roaming E911 I still have my address as the place where emergency calls gets routed. Very Cool !!!

    1 edit

    A suggestion.

Consider this ... since you obtained a distant DID# to make it a local call for your in-laws (but a long distance call for friends and family in your own home town) ... check out the list of available numbers in Vienna VA (SunRocket's and your home town) on the VOIPo website ... add a nice Vienna number to your account as a Virtual Number (the first virtual number is free) ... then ask VOIPo to switch the main number with this new virtual number.

With this arrangement, your parents can still reach you for free by dialing your virtual number (your original DID) in their rate center ... and your new Vienna VOIPo number would allow your nearby Virginia friends and family to call a local VA DID to reach you ... plus your outgoing calls are now showing a Vienna VA Caller ID (CID).

    Just a thought.

Review to come as soon as equipment arrives, but i will give the reason of why i switched.

VoipYour Life is a amazing voip provider with lots of nice people but they lacked some features i have been wanting( Like Telemarketing Blocks, custom caller id, Advanced Call Routing, etc.) No company really had all of these until Voipo came along. So im going to try it for a week and if alls good then ill keep it. Only problem so far was the misleading $99 dollar for a year offer (really $165 after activation fees and E911 Service) I only hope that after the years over the price will stay below 22.99. (Vonage 24.99, VoipYourLife 23.99 so a dollar off that will be progress)

    My Other Reviews·Grande Communicati..
auto-provision didn't work on my ATA but after a quick email I got it up and running no problem.

ATA is sitting behind a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato
ports 5000-5080 are forwarded to the ATA
and the ATA MAC address is set to Highest in the QoS settings

ATA is configured for NAT traverse with a STUN server
no issues with incoming or outgoing calls

call quality has been excellent, i feel it is better than our previous land line service
probably because of the higher amplification offered by the ATA

i love the custom caller ID, call routing and telemarketer block options

after blocking 062* i don't think we've had a single telemarketer call in over a week

number port took about 10 days from ATT

I'm a technical guy and I've been using VOIP for 5 years now.

I'm tired of hearing excuses and making sacrifices.
    I'm tired of $12 a month turning into $15.45 a month turning into $23.40.
I'm tired of being caller 22 in the queue.
I'm tired of hearing, "Well that's weird I have no idea why you got switched to that server".

For all of the technical people like me that are thinking of trying VOIPo, just give them a call. Ask them something about provisioning or advanced ATA configuration. I guarantee you'll hang up the phone impressed.

To VOIPo: Keep up the great work, I hope you're ready for the thousands of people like me.

    My Other Reviews·ViaTalk
11/14/08: I had an issue with my ATA not behaving. I received excellent support including overnighting me 2 different replacement ATA's which I ended up not needing. I was never told to put the ATA in the DMZ (amen to that). Still feeling great about my choice to sign-up with them.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------

10/20/08: I got an equipment upgrade to the Granstream 502 ATA which does pass through the MWI indicator to my Panasonic phones. That was my only issue thus far and it was solved.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------

10/4/08: I was not part of the Beta, but I became a subscriber/user post-Beta, pre-launch. Because of this, the fees (e911, USF, and whatever else) were waived for the first 6 months.

My number ported flawlessly. I forwarded calls to a temporary virtual number until the porting, which worked OK, then I deleted the virtual number.

Communication is exceptional. Upon signing up, I think I received 3 or 4 different e-mails from them with various information.

The ATA is a Grandstream and it is basically plug n play. I have not accessed any of the settings, nor have I needed VOIPo to make any changes.

The MWI (Message Waiting Indicator) on this specific Grandstream ATA does not pass through to Panasonic Dect 6.0 phones. This is a minor issue, one that I hope is fixed in the next firmware update.

I gave the web site a 4 only because at present, pre-launch, there is little to no documentation so some things you have to figure out on your own, though the majority of it is intuitive if you have had Voip with another carrier.

    Call quality has been excellent.

When I make calls, the line actually rings

There is never any dead air when I make a call.

    No outages thus far.

Tech support is very fast. Of course, they don't have many subscribers at present, so I'm interested to see what happens at launch.

After 6 weeks, so far so good. I recommend VOIPo to anyone looking for Voip that works out of the box and does not require constant server shuffling, outages, constant problems with upstream providers, router issues, or "the customer is always wrong customer service".
