I was at a computer store and I needed internet so I asked they told me about att and verizon they said they were 2.0 mbps to 5.0mbps for around 60$. I said No thanks. I saw a xanadoo ad and I decided to go to parkway plaza to check out there store. I said I wanted it they had so meny ppl subscribe that day they didnt have any modems left we had to go to county market WoW. I love xanadoo get it its 4.0 mbps and they dont ntrack your useage any more

I and my ISP are having a dispute and I needed a 'backup' Internet provider. Dial-up not an option - don't have NOR want a land line.
Picked up a modem for $100 (rebate if sign for 2 years - $50 back for 1 year) $50 activation fee waived, plugged it in and activated (need debit or credir card) - less then 20 minutes total time. After reboot connection looked good but could not contact web sites - not found error. Remembered I had hardwired DNS servers into tcp/ip properties. Once I allowed automatic DNS servers and applied settings everything was fine.
On strictly text sites or minimal graphics/pictures 256K is just as fast as 10Meg. The most noticeable difference is downloading files - 1 meg takes a few seconds but it is not a bad delay.
Streaming video has been iffy but if I pause the video letting it buffer longer (and I usually go read another article in a different tab) it is fine. I was able to watch NASA TV stream with no problems while surfing other sites. So far no real complaints. I would recommend it.
One other caveat; I had tweaked XP tcp/ip stack with dspReports. I ran tweak tests again and saw an immediate improvement in download speed.

While looking for a fast ISP, I came across Xanadoo's web site. It promised fast, unlimited internet for a fair price. That looked very promising to me so I decided to give it a try. I informed the salesman that I was an extreme downloader and he told me that was fine. I asked if Xanadoo blocked any ports or limited me in any way. He assured me that Xanadoo did no such thing. I bought the required modem and signed up. Things went well for about 7 months, then a letter stating that I had exceeded my monthly internet usage arrived via email. I thought that maybe this was a mix up, as my internet was unlimited, so I dismissed the letter. A second letter arrived and said that because I was still over my allowance Xanadoo was going to throttle back my bandwidth to 32Kbps for the remainder of my current billing cycle, which had just started by the way. I did some research and found no reference to any limit of any kind on Xanadoo's web site. What I did find were the same promises of unlimited bandwidth that originally led me to Xanadoo. I sent them an e-mail stating my findings and they replied as follows,"I apologize for the miscommunication. Our web site is being updated." I called tech support and was finally connected to a supervisor who just happened to be the guy who replied to my e-mail. We discussed my situation and he was unwilling to help me in any way. I kept quoting the numerous places on the web site that promise unlimited internet usage and he kept quoting one phrase in the Terms of Service agreement. It was a stalemate. I asked the supervisor if he was going to honor Xanadoo's promises or not. He said,"No, and I think it would be in your best interest to find another ISP." Needless to say, I am upset. Not only does Xanadoo throttle my bandwidth to nothing and expect me to pay full price for it, but they also think that they are such a big company that they don't need every customer they can get. Well, they have lost this customer. I am in the works for getting a new ISP and I have taken this matter to the Better Business Bureau. I am also posting my story in as many places as I can so that everyone will know exactly how poorly Xanadoo stands behind it's advertised promises.

My mom was on a local dial-up service that cost $15/month. We all had the usual complaint with dial-up: it tied up her phone. Furthermore, although she paid for 56K, she never got better than 38.8K.
Xanadoo is a new service that started in Texas, using local cell phone towers to broadcast a radio signal to subscribers. I understand that they are pursuing a niche in smaller cities and have no plans to expand either to larger cities or to coverage outside cities.

We just went down to their local office, paid the $100 for the modem and $15 for one month service (plus tax). We are told we can get it all back within 14 days if we aren't happy. There is also a $50 rebate on the modem.
We got their cheapest, slowest service they offer: 128K up and down.
Setup was effortless. The modem has a power transformer and an Ethernet cable. We plugged them in and turned the modem on.
Her iMac was already set up to detect an Ethernet connection. It was straightaway connected. I also tried it with my Dell D420 laptop running Kubuntu, which went well, up to the bit of configuration required on that system.
The service almost quadruples her old 38.8 speed. Since I often browse the web when I visit, this is great for me. I also ran Google Earth without too much pain. Speed tests are showing results around the 128K they advertise for download, but only half that for upload. I'll investigate this.
My mom mostly uses her computer for e-mail. For her, this has meant that she doesn't have to go through the extra steps of dialing in and hanging up the modem, and that use of the Internet doesn't tie up her phone.
Since Xanadoo is rather new, there is the concern that it might not last. So far, they seem to be doing well. But hey, only $50 bucks lost, worst-case.
Overall, this is simply a big improvement over dial-up, for the same monthly rate.
