Tried to get Direcway when I first moved to this area, was not a normal install so it was going to be $300.00 extra then the original equipment cost, Lived with dial-up for a over a year, finally could not stand the speed anymore. Tried to get Wildblue but they were not accepting new orders in my area, so did some research and thanks to Skyfx users comments on the forums and I bought that system.
Update 05/04/07-
Thanks to user Arion suggestion I did a HughesNet self-install with a old DW4000 dish that was given to me, Got a DW6000 modem from ebay for $50.00, Paid $35.00 to www.montanasatellite.com to setup the account and I was good to go. Now I can drop the second phone line and dial-up account.
The change to HughesNet was not related to the Starconnect changeover, had no problems with there service.

I used Skyfx for a month after Skyway went *poof* (now you see us, now you don't)
The service worked great when my phone lines were working. The fastest speed I saw was 695 kbps down.
The crew at Skyfx are knowledgeable and courteous. They'll spend hours on the phone with you if you need that much assistance.
Overall, I would highly recommend them to anyone in a rural setting that has good phone lines.
NOTE: Skyfx has recently relinquished control of their customers to starconnectllc.com
The resulting changes are yet to be seen, but the "rural americans working for rural americans" marketing strategy doesn't apply any longer.
Brightstar Internet will be the replacement provider, with increased fees and slower speeds

I live in rural North Carolina and I thought the only downfall of my location was that I would never see DSL or Cable at my address. Hughes and WildBlue wanted tons of money to start, and they wanted to own me with a signed contract. Not only that but they said my usage would put my monthly at $70 or so. The girls at Skyfx sent me a self install unit that went up in minutes and walked me through the activation. The impossible came true, as I am surfing at Broadband speed and watching NBC,ABC,FOX, ETC. all without buffering. Can't believe it still. This is the answer to rural living.

| DRS Awesome news glad to hear you've joined the highspeed bandwagon. I myself have direcway and wouldnt look back. You mentioned your located in NC i have a few family members there that use a local regional DRS satellite system by Capelook out internet. They sup have access numbers for most of the eastern part of the state and only $99 for equpiment maybe somehing you want to look into if skyfx ever fails for you . »www.clis.com/satellite.shtml | |

Great no nonsense dial up alternative for rural America.
40 bucks a month, great tech support. No CONTRACT.
Self install was easy. $200 dollars equipment.
No upload speed because of dial up connection.
They say no FAP, but I don't expect that to last for long.

Nothing fancy about it...just great service for a great price meant to serve rural Americans like you and me. The other satellite retailers are all about fancy equipment and expensive commercials...SkyFx doesn't need any of that to prove that there service can't and won't be beat! "I" Guarantee it!!!!!!!!

This is a no-nonsense service from a no-nonsense company. Nothing fancy, they just deliver what they promise.
A safe bet to try satellite, if you thinking about it. No contract, $39.99 a month, self-installable with only $200 investment in equipment.
The customer service is the best that I have encountered in a long time.

I just got the SKYFX system and had it up three days after I ordered it.
Only $39.95 a month and this is humping at 700+ on download at
toast.net. Great system and NO contract.
